The multiverse sliding trope has been popping up a lot lately. There is even a new Sonic the Hedgehog TV show coming out about their multiverse.  I wonder if Into the Spider-verse kicked this recent trend off.  Star Trek's Discovery and Picard are both heavily leaning on alternate-universe stories too.  Then you have Loki, No Way Home, Multiverse of Madness,  and What-If.

If they're going to do the show - this really IS the time.

I didn't see any Sliders memorabilia, nor did we get to check the basement, lol.

Fun little tidbit I didn't know until today - Adam Nimoy (Leonard Nimoy's son)
directed three episodes of Sliders:

- Slide Like an Egyptian (1997)
- The Guardian (1996)
- Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome (1996)

The plan was for the Season 4 finale, "Revelations," to reveal that the entire "Genesis" backstory and invasion was a Kromagg trick. Colin was an altered clone of Quinn planted as a sleeper agent. The Kromaggs had manipulated Quinn into shutting down the slidecage to allow the Kromaggs to retake Kromagg Prime.

This is the first I've heard of that idea - that's great!

I've been reading the ireactios story 'Slide Effects':

In it, there is a line of dialogue where Mrs. Mallory is talking to Quinn about the night (last night) he knocked out the power (as we see him do the night before their maiden slide.)

Mrs Mallory says to him "But I shouldn't have told you to stop working on your father's equations."

Excuse me - what. This implies that not only was Michael Mallory also an engineer or applied physicist of some kind but also was working in the same field that Quinn was.......anti-gravity?

Also Wade's comment, "You wanted to build a hovercraft with string theory. It's part of how you relate to your dad."

His absence could easily be explained by the fact he was also a Slider.
In "Gillian of the Spirits" he is shown to be very familiar with technology as well, I can imagine that would be a simple extrapolation that.

EDIT: I didn't realize I was reading ireactions screenplay at first.

I've started listening to these and I quite enjoy their commentary.

I think that if the original cast return to play doubles of the characters we met in 1995, there could also be comic books or audioplays to address the original characters and wrap up those storylines properly.

I don't know what happens in Season 5, but the only character that would need a wrap-up would be Rembrandt, or Professor Arturo if you decide to follow him from Earth Double Prime.

Have any of you purchased, or build your own replica of the Original Timer, or any other props from the show for that matter?

I know that Rick and Morty is a morph of some shorts that featured characters called Doc and Mharti - but it seems that the world-building is much closer to that of Sliders than it is of Back to the Future.  If Morty was in his 20's, and not 10 (or however old he is supposed to be) it would be closed to being Quinn and Arturo.  The Portal Gun is a Timer for all intents and purposes, and the animation of their vortex is very similar to the vortex from Sliders.
We even see Roiland wearing a Sliders t-shirt in an interview.

I am curious why they compare the show to Futurama, per say, but not Sliders? Has anyone else though about the parallels between Rick and Morty and Sliders? (My username might indicate that I have)

I haven't watched Loki.
I haven't watched 80% of the MCU ( I will get around to it I promise)
I was never too interested in the superhero epics - but as soon as they started throwing around time travel and parallel universes - now they're speaking my language.

As far as I can tell the MCU want's to take the success of Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse (which I did see) and introduced Dr. Strange - whom was described to me essentially as a slider. The upcoming Spiderman movie is set to feature doubles of Peter Parker, and the new Loki series features the multiverse, and probably a bunch more that I can't think of.  Now I want to jump in to the MCU, but am not sure if I can just up and start Loki - I don't really want to watch from Iron Man 1. Thoughts on where I should start?

Thoughts on how the MCU's implementation might parallel or differ the Sliders way?

In some episode where Quinn puts some microchip on his forehead/temples and then found out about some foster parents thing.  Were they intentionally trying to turn Quinn in Clark Kent - they sure turned Mrs. Mallory into Martha Kent, and had Lara-El and Jor-El pretty much in costume, too. I can only imagine that Quinn was evacuated for some Krypton-esque reason too.

I'm not sure if this was just how the writing was in those years, or if there was a common writer on the staff that was trying to get a Superman reference in ....

It's a very efficient solution. The only problem is, the original ones are left behind on a damper since there wasn't an explanation for them. But that's okay! We can use our current explanation for that in whatever fanfiction stories you write can be your new ending!

I also imagine that it would have to be a more heavily serialized form.  Much the same way Star Trek: Picard tells its stories, versus the alien-of-the-week version of Star Trek in the 80's and 90's. Perhaps that what the whole show is about.  There are so many ways to 'stumble' across the Original versions.

I found this while back, and just thought it was very well done.
I'd love to learn how to do this.

I'd love to get ahold of this guy to do some CGI work, haha.

Are there any independent producers or writers that are interested in working on a Sliders short?

I am currently based in Vancouver, Canada, and was planning to make a little short to commemorate at test out my Original Timer replica (got to see if it works!).

I thought it might be fun to play the part of the original Professor Arturo's teaching assistant rummaging around through his stuff in 2021, stumbling across the Timer that he stashed away for himself - following the hypothetical that after the prime Professor Arturo was stranded in Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome (fight me) that he continued to work at the university, presumably also developing sliding technology in the 25 years since 1996.

I found someone on YouTube that made some phenomenal CGI recreating the vortex, but I wasn't able to get ahold of him.

Since I am based in Vancouver, it might be fun to start at the Lamplighter Pub and Dominion Hotel too (they're both real places, with the same names).

Any ideas would be really fun to discuss!

I suspect the simplest route for a SLIDERS revival that meets Torme's requirements: in 2021, a 48 year-old Quinn Mallory discovers sliding for the first time and on his first adventure, he brings along his ex-wife (Wade), his former teacher (Arturo), and an over-the-hill R&B musician-turned music teacher (Rembrandt). Old fans of the show understand that these are not the same people we met in 1995; they are doubles of the originals. New fans view them as new characters and get into the show on the ground floor. Temporal Flux suggested the older-doubles approach for a new pilot in 2000; Slider_Quinn21 suggested that the present-day ages could be continually updated in each hypothetical reboot concept -- and if Torme is insistent on the original cast, this ensures the absolute minimum of continuity confusion even if the original versions of the characters are left as they were in 2000.
