What's funny is that I thought they were being sorta creative with their use of CGI towards the beginning of the episode (just using sounds to reference a T-Rex but then not showing it).  But the whole Firestorm thing looked really low quality - even his flying looked really bizarre.  And then they ended up showing the T-Rex anyway (which looked fine, I guess).

And I'm sure you noticed, once again, that Sara just can't control herself around any attractive female.  She's not just gone from bisexual to lesbian, but she's gone from bisexual to lesbian to lesbian fratguy.

Well, I think the JSA existed in complete secret.  Much like the JSA in Smallville.  If costumed heroes were no big deal on Smallville, then it wouldn't have taken Clark so long to be used to the idea.  The whole Warrior Angel thing existed because it was a novelty.

I think Supergirl is trying to say that the alien stuff is really recent (this season).  So she had to grow up in secret because no one knew about the aliens.  Now?  I'm not even sure why Kara has to keep her identity a secret anymore....all her friends and family can protect themselves (they're all basically superheroes or spies).  I guess people would be mobbing her all the time, but that's just the life of a celebrity.

Question - do we think aliens exist on Earth at the same level on Earth One as Earth-Supergirl?  Because we know aliens exist on Earth One, and they're *everywhere* on Supergirl.  Are they all in hiding?

And I felt like they were hitting the immigration a little too on the head on this week's Supergirl.  Not as bad as Arrow but close.

I also wonder why anyone ever tries to kill someone in National City or Metropolis by throwing them off a building.  That won't work....a Kryptonian will catch them smile

Speaking of Earth One - I know we're used to it (with Earth Prime and all), but Team Flash simply called the Arrowverse "Earth One" to simplify things.  Earth Two was called that because it was the only parallel Earth that anyone knew about.  And, yet, Gypsy actually refers to Earth One as Earth One.  Was she just speaking Team Flash's language, or is there some kind of actual parallel universe tracking system and the Arrowverse does just happen to be Earth One?

To me, it isn't so much about being "grim" or "dark" - it's how the characters relate to me and how I relate to them.  When I look at Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne, I look at people who are braver than me.  Who are stronger than me.  Who are better versions than I could possibly hope to be.  I want to make myself more like them...I don't necessarily want to see myself in them.

I know his ideas on Clark are controversial (American Alien is still sitting on my bedside table unopened), but Max Landis had a little rant after Man of Steel that really helped me understand why Superman is such a fascinating character.  The guy has all the powers, and people see that as boring.  But, to him, it's not his powers that make him interesting or notso....it's the way he reacts to his powers.  That he basically has two options in life - save the world or rule it.  And that he decides "why not" try and save it.  That, instead of absolute power corrupting him absolutely, absolute power absolved him of all the petty crap that we deal with.

So, yeah, Clark would have problems, but at the end of the day, I think he'd understand how freakin' lucky he is to be who he is.  How much fun he'd get to have on a daily basis.  He might've lost his whole family, but he's had a great family his whole life.  He might be alone, but he doesn't even necessarily identify as Kryptonian.

That's why I liked Smallville's Clark.  He has normal human problems (relationships, school, purpose, etc), but at the end of the day, the guy is a beacon that brings a lot of people to the light.  At the end of the day, he can run off to Europe with Bart or super-basketball with Pete.  My lasting memory of Clark in Smallville isn't him brooding over Lana or wearing the black suit that one season.  It's him smiling on the farm.  Clark has a great life, and he knows it.  Even on the CW.

Even Batman is a similar type.  Yeah, he's dark.  He's brooding.  But even he seems to understand that he has it better than most.  That's why he's willing to take punishment to save people - he can and they can't.  There's a weird dichotomy between the Batman who is alone and the Batman who keeps rescuing kids and putting them in colorful costumes, but I think it's a natural evolution of the character.  Like the boxing gym down the street, some kids need to channel their violence in a healthy way.  Bruce knows this as well as anyone.

I don't like the Christopher Reeve Superman, and I don't like the Henry Cavill Superman.  To me, they both get it wrong.  Superman can't be all happy, but he shouldn't be too challenged either.  I don't want to see myself in him.  He should be better.

Two things:

1. They didn't really acknowledge it.  "Where did you get this?" became more about Ramiel than how it ended up with him.  I'm guessing we'll have to use our imaginations.  It's cool that it's back, although I'm also impressed that Sam was able to recite, from memory, how to make the bullets.  I didn't think it was an error....I think Sam probably would remember that.

2. Are we supposed to hate the British Men of Letters?  By the end of the episode, Sam comes around, but I kept thinking the whole time that the BMoL are *objectively* better at this than the Winchesters.  Whether or not that one lady tortured the boys or not, the operation itself seems like an amazing success.  I don't know if they're going for some sort of political angle (the whole "going after criminals" vs "going after terrorists" angle), but I honestly have considered the BMoL to be incredibly effective.  Even the whole bureaucracy thing, where they get really smart people who help the men on the field is efficient.

The only question I have is why it's taken so long for them to come over.  Especially since they can clearly spare the manpower.  It'd be cool if they were fighting their own version of the Darkness or Leviathans or whatever, and they just recently cleaned that up.  Because if they're this good and America was this "Wild West", why didn't they try and civilize the US earlier?

I know they'll probably end up evil or something will be terribly wrong with the way they do things.  If only because I don't think the show wants to be Sam and Dean: Agents of MoL.  But, for now, it's almost refreshing to see hunting done differently.

They all sorta have their roles.  Felicity is sorta the internet/hacking person.  Cisco is the tech guy.  Caitlin *should* be the doctor (but you're right, no one is using her that way, not even Arrow, really).  Stein should be the physicist.

Cisco should primarily be on Flash, but he's a fun character and has made a ton of tech for Team Arrow.  Caitlin has never really had much to do so her floating around being the medic when things go bad wouldn't be the worst idea.  Diggle should also stay on Arrow most of the time, but he could've been really valuable on Flash when there weren't a half-dozen speedsters he could've left in charge of defending Central City.

Heck, Wally could be a guy who could come in and save the day when Oliver or the Legends get in over their heads.  He gives the four shows a speedster who could be on loan to save the day in a pinch so that they don't have to always use Barry (Wally could've been the one to cameo on Arrow a couple weeks ago).

But it's not just appearances that are down....even casual mentions seem to be down this year, outside of a handful of fun stuff that I've already mentioned (the Cisco/Gypsy fight and the aforementioned Arrow/Central City stuff).  Those don't require special contracts, but they still seem to be happening less.  I wonder if they were told to focus on their own shows and worry less about fun "ARROWVERSE" moments.

The new contracts that people like Katie Cassidy and Wentworth Miller signed appear to be pretty useless. They're not being used across the different shows. They're not kept available when the shows do want to use them (Katie was off working on a movie and had to work out a schedule for her to appear). So I really don't even know what those contracts mean. Were they purely symbolic?

I don't know, but it sorta sucks.  I was hoping this was going to start a new trend.  I think Cisco and Felicity should be on similar contracts, able to flow in and out of any show that requires them.  Same with Winn if they ever get on the same Earth.  Cisco plays with anyone, and I think Winn could be the same way.  And Felicity works so well with Barry that she should be on there as much as she can.  I also think the Legends could work well flowing in and out of shows, and if the team was more fluid, they wouldn't have to constantly leave people on the ship for no reason.

And I still maintain that if they wanted to go James as Guardian on Supergirl, they should've sent him to train with Oliver's team.  He's even more useless on Supergirl in Season 2 than he was in Season 1.

I don't think speedsters and the Legends metas should be showing up on Arrow because that show needs to be as grounded as it can be, but outside of that, they should be having more fun with their roster.  Instead, they seem to be moving away from that.

Is there some weird scheduling issue with some of these shows?  Supergirl's Valentine's Day episode aired a week after Valentine's Day (instead of the day before) and a Legends of Tomorrow Christmas episode aired in February.

I've also noticed that there's been a lot less intra-show referencing and any reference to what's happening on the other shows so we know what the timeline is.  And very little of main characters crossing over (Felicity on Flash, Sara on Arrow, etc).  I thought there'd be more of that considering the contracts they were signing.  I wonder if that's all in reaction to what happened with the Arrow flash forward / Zoom / Barry's powers mess.

Well, my guess is that the Colt played it's purpose in Kripke's version of the show (killing everything it needed to kill), and when it couldn't kill Lucifer, it was discarded.  If you just watch seasons 1-5 (which, in Kripke's mind, is all there is), then it's not really even a plot hole.  Whether Bobby has it, Crowley has it, Dean has it, or it's still in that field....Sam is dead and Dean is no longer hunting.  Who has the Colt isn't important.

So there wasn't a shot of the Colt going missing or a mention of it because it no longer mattered in the 5-season arc that Kripke was telling.  And, as you said, the new writers either didn't know what to do with it, couldn't justify where it was supposed to be (since Kripke left no bread crumbs to follow) or just ignored it because it was too powerful.

I think it's a really interesting conversation.  Do we know if Kripke still follows the show?  I wonder if he's like Torme and doesn't really care anymore, or if he still watches as a fan.  I wonder where he'd think the Colt went.

Either way, it's cool that it's back.  And I wonder if they'll even worry about filling in the blanks.  Will they do a scene re-enacting the attack on Lucifer?  Or do we have all they're going to give us?

But seriously, I do like some goofy shows. I just think that I have to feel some amount of care when I'm watching it. To me, when I watched Agents of SHIELD for the 3.4 (or whatever) seasons, I just saw people getting a paycheck. I saw billboards for whatever movie was coming out, or whichever phase of the MCU plan was about to kick in.

I agree with this sentiment as far as the first couple seasons went.  Every episode there was a name-drop or a wink or a reference.  Nick Fury would show up.  Or lesser characters from the movies (Sif from Thor, for example).  And whenever a movie would come out, they'd scramble to change for it or have an "event" episode in the aftermath.  There was a big, complicated story arc on AoS where they explained how they obtained a Helicarrier for Nick Fury to use.  It's a big part of Age of Ultron, but the show isn't mentioned at all (or even a wink to the show - he just has it).

Since they did the Inhumans arc, the show's sorta done its own thing.  And, this season, magic has been at the forefront, but they aren't tying it to Dr. Strange.  In season 2, the whole season would be about helping Strange and there'd be a cameo from Wang or something.  Instead, they're focusing on other aspects of magic, and (as far as I know), Strange hasn't been mentioned.  No references at all.

And, yeah, there's not Emmy-level performances or really deep characters, but I feel like they've grown a lot more.  It used to be a show that I just watched, but now I look forward to it.  It's fun.

Barry traveled between worlds - that's how he got to Kara's Earth.  Or did that change when they filled all the breaches?  I really have no idea.

Also, I forgot to mention, but the CGI in that episode looked really bad.  I thought the vistas and overheads of Gorilla City looked really cool, but whenever they had a human actor clearly in front of a green screen, it looked terrible.  I know it's a TV budget, but it's odd that they even tried it considering how bad it looked.

I also wondered if Wally would go to Earth-2.  Doesn't really fit with Barry training him, but it seems like it'd solve both problems (they get to be together without her abandoning her dad).

I enjoyed the Gorilla City episode of Flash, but....

1. Why does Flash always use Cisco to open breaches?  Jesse was able to speed her way to Earth-1.  Barry can too.  Is it just ease?

2. Wouldn't this have been a better reason to unite the four teams?  I know they have a team of speedsters, which is better than basically anyone in the Arrowverse but Kara....but wouldn't it be better than fighting a bunch of aliens that hadn't been mentioned before?

Well, I always wonder how Sliders would've recovered if Torme had successfully reclaimed the series on Sci-Fi.  After watching the end of season 3, would we be happy to get anything featuring the original sliders?  Or would Torme's Season 4 feel a little like Supernatural Seasons 6+ without Kripke...a cheap copy of the original (because of the network shift and the smaller budget, not a different creative staff, but you get my point).

I also wonder how Torme would've handled Sci-Fi's meddling.  If Jerry had pulled the same kind of stunts, would John have been able to talk him down?  Would Torme have caved to Jerry's demands?  Allowed him to walk like the Season 5 crew did?

Would Torme, having fought so hard with FOX, have made a similar "statement" and ended his probably-final season with a cliffhanger, hoping to make some sort of point?

I don't know if Punisher or the second season of Daredevil could toward the original contract for the Netflix shows.

Yeah, I'm guessing that's a new contract.

Regarding the characters on Agents of Shield, I think they've grown into their roles.  They weren't entirely sure what to do with Daisy/Skye, but I think her progression has been mostly organic.  Coulson has been Coulson.  And they've humanized May to the point where she's a character you can sorta understand, especially this season.  Putting Fitz and Simmons together has humanized them to where they aren't just the science team.  I think Mac is a pretty cool character, and putting him with Yo-Yo has shown off his depth.

When you listen to Chloe Bennet talk about how they're virtually ignored by the MCU, you see how proud she is of the show and how disappointed she is that it doesn't get treated the same way.  And I know you don't like LoT or Supergirl, but I think there's a place on TV for those kind of shows - something just engaging enough but also fun.  I think, at it's best, AoS can be as good as Flash or Arrow.  I think Amell and Gustin are just more charismatic and can carry a show.  As much as I like the character of Coulson, he's not strong enough to be the lead, and the ensemble isn't strong enough for it to be completely engaging.

But when it's good, it's pretty good.  And there've been fewer and fewer bad moments the last season or two.  It might not matter because it's on the bubble, and Marvel might want to focus on the Inhumans TV show and their Netflix shows.  But we'll see.

2,004

(855 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

Well, the Defenders is only going to be 8 episodes, but I'm pretty sure the contract with Netflix was for 60 episodes total (13 of each of the primary shows and 8 Defenders) so they might not have had a choice in the matter....even if they realized they didn't have enough material for 13.

Although I blame that on writing.  There's tons of stories these guys can tell in 13 episodes.  There are a lot of great network shows that did/do 20+ episodes, and there are a *ton* of great shows that do 13.  There's no magic number of episodes, and all these characters have decades of material to work with.

2,005

(855 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

I mean, I don't see it as any worse or better than any of the DC/CW shows.  The characters that are still on the show are good, and I like them.  And the show is fun - the action is usually pretty good for TV, and the narrative is usually compelling.

What I've noticed is that they're sorta moving into their own territory.  They don't name-drop the Avengers as much, and when they do, it's usually just in relation to Coulson (like when he talks about getting stabbed by Loki).  They aren't just a clean-up crew for whatever the other movies are doing.  While they're doing a lot of magic this year, I'm pretty sure they haven't had a single mention of Dr. Strange or anything related to him.  At the same time, it feels like the Marvel universe, and it wouldn't be bizarre to have more cross-pollination if that's what the movie side wanted.

But since they don't, I like that the show isn't just filling the gaps of the Marvel movies.  It's its own thing.  And it's a fun show.

2,006

(855 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

We don't talk about it much, but I think Agents of Shield has really found its footing.  I actually look forward to watching it each week, and I think it's a lot of fun.  It's annoying that the movies don't care about it, and it's crazy that AoS takes place in the same universe as Daredevil.  But for what it is, I think it's a lot of fun.  Ghost Rider was a fun story, LMD was zany but allowed for some great character work, and I think Agents of Hydra will be pretty cool too.

Bringing back (spoiler) is upsetting, but hopefully they do it right.

2,007

(554 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

That's really cool analysis.  And, yeah, I get it.  I struggle with certain shows/stories sometimes because I feel protagonists have it too easy.  Shows that tell us that the world is dangerous but the main characters always escape at the right moment.  It makes something like Supernatural feel good because the show openly says that the brothers die all the time, but another force keeps them alive until they get it right.  That's awesome....we're seeing the perfect version of all events where the boys get away with it.

By all means, the Turtles should have miserable lives in mutilated forms.  But, yeah, once you go down that road, there's not joy in it.  It becomes a story of survival with no hope of peace - it becomes the Walking Dead where you no longer care about any of them.

It's an odd dynamic.  We want the danger to feel real, but we want our characters to survive.  We don't like it when there's a ton of death but the main characters always survive (Walking Dead), but we get mad when there's a ton of death and our main characters die (Sliders).  We don't like it when the characters have it too easy, either (Star Trek: Voyager)

Not having ever read any of the comics, I can't say how I'd feel to read Volume 3.  But as someone who enjoys creative risk, I'm glad it exists.

I've never read a TMNT comic....which is odd because I still have a soft spot for the Turtles.  When I read about Volume 3, I sorta loved the ambition.  I don't know how "hyperviolent" it was, but if these guys are running up against ninjas....they probably would be pretty brutalized.  They'd lose limbs and be seriously injured.  Wasn't this also the segment of the comics where Raphael became the Shredder?  Was it also the one where aliens came and the Turtles were free to walk around New York freely?

I like when writers get the free reign to take characters to dark places.  Where you genuinely don't know what will happen next, and any fight could have serious consequences.

I'll have to check that out.

I never really worried about it because it didn't work against Lucifer, and that's all that mattered at the time.  I don't think it was bad planning....I just think everyone (including Sam and Dean) didn't think it was important at the time.  It was essentially useless for the task at hand so they needed to find something else.

I think ireactions is 100% correct that the writers figured it was too easy to give the boys something that kills pretty much anything, and that's why it wasn't brought up again.

The problem with Batman, though, is that I don't really see any reason for Batman to be so angry.  Yeah, people died as a result of the fight in Metropolis, but from the looks of things, pretty much everyone was okay with it.  The world seems to understand that the collateral damage was a result of Superman trying to save the world, and that's that.  They built a statue to him in the same city that he participated in destroying, so it's hard to say that he's hated.  No one tries to arrest him at any point.  The military wanted to talk to him at the end of Man of Steel, but they seemed to trust him.  The government wants to talk to him, but it's not about Metropolis.

Superman has proven himself in the public eye, and he spends months doing nothing but good.  It doesn't take much investigation on Lois' part to find that Superman isn't guilty of the attack in Africa, and that's the *only* thing that Superman has done since the Battle of Metropolis that isn't heroic.  Batman being angry in the immediate aftermath of the Zod fight is understandable, but he's one of the few people who doesn't let it go...especially as Superman continues to save people.

The only other people in the movie who are openly anti-Superman are Lex and Wally, who are both insane and murderous.  The villains of the story.  Batman is clearly unhinged, murderous, and villainous.

Well, Affleck has been the glue so far.  He's the connection between BvS and Suicide Squad.  He's the guy doing the legwork in organizing the Justice League from the trailer.  If he's gone, it's a huge hole to fill and would have to be done correctly.

We've discussed this a lot, but the main problem with the characterization in BvS is the way the script seemed to be altered.  From what I can figure from interviews with different people behind the scenes, the script was supposed to be Superman saving Batman from the depths of his own demons.  Batman is blinded by rage and ends up like one of the villains that he's fought his whole life.

The problem is that Snyder or the studio or whoever wanted to make a Batman film.  So Batman had to be the hero.  If Batman is the hero, Superman has to be someone that Batman should rightfully fear/hate.  So Batman, while essentially filling the same role as Lex Luthor in the film, is painted as the hero.  Superman, while not doing much of anything to deserve the hatred from Batman, is painted in a villainous way to justify Batman's crusade.

I've said it before, but a movie where Batman is the villain would've been amazing.  It'd humanize Superman, continuing the work done in Man of Steel, and Batman's redemption would move right into Justice League.  Because Batman is a bad guy, even in the final cut.  He's a brutal vigilante, an obsessive maniac, and a murderer.

Instead, we get a movie where Bruce is painted as the hero, while Lex Luthor is identical and is painted as a villain.  Where the hero, Superman, gets very little humanizing and whose own mysteriousness comes off as "dark" or "uncaring", and where it's hard to understand anyone's motivations.  Throw in the massive cuts, and the movie just struggles to form an identity.

If they were even going to do this episode, they should've done it while they were recruiting Rene.  How many times has Rene presumably saved Curtis' life with his guns?  Have they never had these discussions before?

What a bizarre episode.  It felt a little like the semi-canon episode of West Wing "Isaac and Ishmael" - it just didn't feel organic.  I don't think shows like this are the right place for discussions like this.  It's probably a good idea for someone as violent as Oliver to think twice about what violence brings, but this isn't exactly something that's going to bring about any changes on the show.  It's preaching for the sake of preaching, and it just feels weird on a show with people shooting arrows at each other.

I also thought the flashback was weird.  Rene seemed like a really good guy who didn't really even make a mistake.  To lose his daughter seemed....bizarre.  And it's weird that he lost his family due to gun violence but he's also the one arguing that it shouldn't be restricted.  And while its cool that the Darhk stuff is what inspired him....wouldn't it have made more sense for him to have been a *part* of the citizen uprising?  And maybe deciding that he needs to stay out there on the streets?

Weird side note....where was Thea?  I don't even remember.

It'd depend on how it was handled.  If Affleck took part in a passing of the torch (as he'd have to in both my idea and Informant's), I think it'd be okay.  That's why I wanted to make my version of The Batman be a movie about Dick Grayson literally becoming Batman piece by piece (which was actually sorta a reference to the end of the Knightfall, in reverse).  Then I think people would take it seriously and Dick could just be Batman going forward.

If they recast (like James Bond), I think it'd be taken less seriously.  It was fine with the Hulk (because no one saw The Incredible Hulk) or even Rhodey (because it's not a huge part), but this is Batman.  The difference between Bond and Batman would be the shared universe/shared continuity side.  And the fact that Affleck has seemingly been the glue that has held the story together (since he'll have appeared in every DCEU movie if the rumors about his part/cameo in Wonder Woman are true).

I think it'd be a disaster.  And that's why I don't think it's true....if he's thinking about leaving, he'll almost certainly spin it into more money.  Because I think he's the guy that DC can least afford to lose.  By far.

I like when a show is telling a flashback and ends an act with the hero (in flashback) in danger.  Arrow does it quite a bit, but I'm watching an episode of Agents of SHIELD where they just did it.  They're flashing back to a Coulson mission from the past, and one act ends with a bunch of Russians taking him hostage.  I'm sure it was super dangerous at the time, but we know he survives.

Flashbacks are cool for character development and action in flashbacks/prequels can still be fun.  But don't pretend like you're gonna trick me into thinking someone is dead when I'm seeing them in the present.

Well, if I can enter his mind....

My guess is it's reactionary to Live By Night.  I think he poured a lot of himself into it, and he was expecting it to be accepted at the same level as The Town or Argo.  Instead, it fell on its face, and he spent most of the publicity tour talking about Batman.  His passion project was a bust, and people only care about something that, I have to assume, has been disappointing.  He wanted the DC Cinematic Universe to be fun, and it's been critically panned and commercially underwhelming.  Maybe he thinks it wasn't what he signed up for.

The Batman stuff might be involved too.  If he poured himself into it and the studio interfered (both if statements), then it might've been disappointing to have to drop out.  Maybe he's worried about making another mixed Batman movie, and maybe he's worried about doing something he doesn't fully believe in.

All speculation on my part.  I'd be shocked if he left, but I'd understand why he did.

And regarding your idea, I like it.  I might do something a little different and move the series in a different direction.

Movie opens with Batman and Nightwing on a rooftop.  They're investigating something.  Shows that they work well together - both good detectives and good fighters.  They end up getting to a place where they can overlook a warehouse where Joker is.  Nightwing says they should scope the place out.  Batman says he's already sent someone in.  Dick is shocked - Jason has only been active for a few months and isn't ready.  Bruce says he is.  They get in and find Jason dead.  Dick runs off, furious.  Bruce is devastated.

The Battle of Metropolis.  Dick watches.  He reaches for his phone.  Wants to call Bruce.  Doesn't.  Months later, another call he ignores from Alfred.  Then, as he watches Superman's funeral, one from Bruce.  Ignored.  All the while, Dick is training.  Working the streets.  Taking in bad guys.  Sometimes, some of Bruce's bad guys.

Present day - Batman takes someone into Arkham.  Say...Penguin.  Dick watches on TV as the former mayor of Gotham is turned in by Batman.  Then the TV goes blank.  The feed is cut.  The anchors don't know what happened.

The next day, it's revealed that Arkham has been taken over by someone.  The police can't get in.  There's been no word from the inside.  The standoff lasts for days.  The media wonders if Batman is dead.  Dick can't take it anymore.  He collects Barbara.  Goes to Alfred.  Apologizes.  They all go down into the Batcave and find a kid at the computer.  They scare him off without getting his name.

Dick and Barbara get a clue from some mysterious source that the siege was done by a mercenary named Deathstroke.  They also find, in Bruce's computer, a secret entrance to Arkham.  As Dick scopes out the entrance, the kid is there again.  He wants to help, but Dick knows (from Jason) that kids can't be a part of this life.  He proves it by kicking the kid's ass, hoping he'll learn.  The kid runs off, licking his wounds.

With Barbara working as Oracle, Dick breaks in.  It's chaos inside as the inmates are running amok.  Dick, in his Nightwing costume, battles his way through C, B, and A level DC villains, collecting intel.  He hears that Deathstroke has Batman in the main office.   Along the way, Dick finds clues and weapons.  Gauntlets.  Batarangs.  Smoke pellets.  Just when he needs them.

Finally, right before he reaches Deathstroke, he finds a note from Bruce.  He always knew Dick would be a great hero.  Despite their estrangement, he's always kept tabs on him.  Made sure he was safe.  But more and more,  he was able to let his protege fly.  And now....

Dick finds a Batsuit.  Custom fit for him.  Putting on the Batsuit, he enters the office and fights Deathstroke.  He wins.  But Bruce isn't captured.  He isn't anywhere.  Deathstroke doesn't even know where he is - it's all been rumors.

The movie ends with Dick as Batman.  Out of the shadows comes Tim (or Damian), the kid from earlier, as Robin.  Dick is ready to embrace the life as Batman, to forgive Bruce and forgive himself.  To take up Bruce's mantle and do it his own way.  Hopefully, a better way.

Post-Credits - Superman (or Wonder Woman or Flash or whoever) shows up and offers Dick a role in the Justice League per Bruce's request.

I mean, I get all that.  But it's like the issues I've had with comic books and other stuff...I don't want key information in novelizations, deleted scenes, or studio tours smile

Trust me, I hope you're right.  I've said this whole time that if they're going to do old Batman, I want Bat-Family.  Jason Todd is a character I don't have a ton of love for so if he's dead, so be it.  The problem with using comic lore to fill in the gaps is that the lore is so inconsistent.  In current continuity, Tim Drake was *never* Robin - he was always Red Robin.  Damian Wayne is such an inconsistent character who has become so relevant now.  Will they completely pass over Tim to focus on Damian?

My fear is that Hollywood hates Robin and considers him too campy.  So Batman had a partner, and he's dead.  Period.  Because even if Bruce is estranged from Dick, where *was* Barbara?  If Tim exists, where was Tim?  If Alfred legitimately thought Bruce was going to die, why didn't Alfred try to get anyone to help save Bruce's life?  To me, BvS didn't show me a guy who drove everyone in his life away....he was a guy who didn't have anyone left.  And, at least to me, there's a difference.

Plus, if Bruce really thought that the world was going to end if Superman wasn't killed....wouldn't he be willing to put down a silly squabble to get the help he definitely needed?  Wouldn't he want to go in with every bullet in his chamber?  He's freakin' Batman.

So, to me, the evidence that there's no living partners outweighs any evidence that anyone is left.  Because there's no indication that any Bat-Family is going to be in Justice League.  If Bruce drove all his people away, he also doesn't trust any of them to help.  Or they're really petty to never forgive a Bruce that supposedly has learned from all the darkness.

And if Dick or Barbara or Tim or Damian show up, I'm going to need an explanation for where the Hell they were when Superman and Doomsday and Steppenwolf and Darkseid were trying to destroy the world.

Well, as someone who didn't like Trump but feared Hillary more, I was banking on him not doing much.  So not doing much of anything is basically my best case scenario smile

But unless I missed something, there's zero evidence that it's Jason, right?  We know a story, but we don't know this story.  We can't use the comics to fill in holes....we can only use what we know on screen.

- We know *a* Robin died.  Visual evidence from the suit in BvS implies that it was the Joker, and Harley's cutaway says that she was a party to the death of "Robin" - no name given.

- We know that Batman is on a one-man crusade to kill Superman.  At no point does he seek any help in this quest (either training himself or as backup), so we know that, if any Robin is alive, Bruce didn't contact him.  Similarly, at no point does anyone reach out to stop Bruce from going after him.  This is a mission that everyone, including Bruce, regards as a potential suicide mission, and no one reaches out to try and stop him.  So if Robin is alive, the Robin never tries to contact Bruce.

- All the above is fine if they're estranged.  Maybe Dick and Bruce are *so* estranged that they literally don't care if the other lives or dies.  Which is more estranged than they usually are (Dick usually reaches out if he legitimately thinks his surrogate father is in too deep because it's his surrogate father), but I get it.  But what about Alfred?  He spends *the entire movie* trying to talk Bruce out of it, and he never plays the Dick card.  Why not?  Is Dick so far underground that Alfred can't reach him?  Or is Dick not in the picture (because he's dead or never existed)?

- Harley's number one reason for being locked up is being an "accomplice to the murder of Robin" and yet doesn't mention it.  Was Robin a kid?  A grown man?  It's probably her first (only?) murder?  If she's going to have a redemption, shouldn't she mention that?  Atone for that?

It's a big part of Batman's story and a big part of Harley's story.  It's either Batman's entire motivation for going too far to fight Superman or, at the very least, a catalyst for it.  It's a huge part of Harley's history.  In a movie starring Batman and a movie starring Harley, it's not mentioned in dialogue at all...just two visual clues.

If we're supposed to assume Dick and Jason, that's fine.  But the movie has to give me some indication that that's the case.  Any piece of dialogue from Alfred or Bruce or Joker or Harley or Amanda Waller....all people who would know exactly what happened.  Who died and who didn't.  Since the movie is withholding that information, I have to assume that it's on purpose and will be "revealed" at some later date.

Trump hasn't really accomplished much of anything, good or bad.  The travel ban is the only real thing he's done, and the checks and balances of the country have worked in stopping that for the time being.  The media and social media are saying a lot about Trump being a fascist.

Instead, he's basically what he's always been - a lot of talk and no action.

Well, this is one problem I have with the whole thing.  There doesn't need to be a mystery about Batman's history.  We've had a full movie where Bruce was the star and another movie where most of the cast was Batman villains (and Batman appeared).

Is the dead Robin Jason?  Is it Dick?  Is it someone else?  Were there multiple Robins?  I understand "we'll get to it" but Robin's death was supposedly a huge part of Batman crossing his own line and killing people.  Robin's death was supposedly the reason why Harley was jailed and a huge victory for the Joker.  Why are they keeping *key* motivations a secret when they could explain them with dialogue?

If they were holding that for The Batman and doing Red Hood, that's fine....but that'd be at least a movie or two featuring Batman away.  Tell us now, show us later.

Because there's a chance there was only one Robin, Dick Grayson, and he's the one that's dead.  Robin wasn't part of Bruce's campaign to kill Superman, wasn't there (by his own request or by Alfred's) to stop him, and he won't be there for Justice League.  All signs, in my opinion, point to the idea that there was just one Robin and he's dead.

They could do Terry and do a Batman Beyond situation (maybe Batman can't take any more punishment after Justice League), and that could be cool.

It doesn't matter in the long run, but it's hard to speculate because we don't really know what Bat-Family we're dealing with.

No idea if there's anything to the rumor or more anti-DC media fun, but there's a rumor that Affleck wants out.  If that's the case....Justice League better be flippin' awesome or I might bail on the whole thing.

Although Mr Sunday Movies did a really interesting video on the whole situation, and he discussed replacing Bruce with Dick Grayson.  Dick might be my favorite DC character, and I'd love for him to get a better portrayal.  They could even change the BATMAN movie to be a version of the fan-made Grayson movie from a few years ago, and make it about Dick solving Bruce's murder and taking over the mantle of the Bat.

Makes sense.  Legends is going to end a good deal before the rest of the shows (they have 6 episodes left while Flash and Arrow have 11).  So in addition to a handfull of Legends episodes, they could also have a mini-arc on the Flash if they really wanted.

Ugh....legends.

I don't know why the show insists on doing some of the things they do.  I get that the show is diverse and they have to give the black people on the show something to do, but sending in Nate and Amaya as newlyweds?  Multiracial marriage was a hot-button topic 50 years ago....let alone 250 years ago.  They're adding unnecessary danger to the mission, especially when they could've easily just had Sara be his wife since she was already there.  I know they're playing with a Nate/Amaya romance, but make Sara the fake wife and add a jealousy element.

And Sara can't name a single colony?  Really??

That'd be an interesting move, and it could actually be used to improve Wally's character.  What if, in an attempt to go fast enough to save Iris, Wally ends up becoming the Speed Force?  To Barry and Team Flash, Wally is essentially dead.  So it drives a wedge between Barry and the rest of the team, including Joe and Iris.  Maybe Barry goes off on his own for a while to realize what he did.  Maybe he just goes into exile.

Season 4 starts with everyone having dreams of Wally.  Almost like he's haunting them.  Then, all the sudden, Kid Flash starts showing up.  Neither Flash nor Kid Flash have been seen in months, and Metas have been, for the most part, ruling Central City with the cops/ STAR Labs helpless to stop them.  The Kid Flash appearances get the attention of Joe (who's inconsolable) and Iris (who's heartbroken).  And, of course, Barry.

Barry finally finds Kid Flash but it's not Wally.  It's some....kid.  Kid Flash runs away, and as soon as Barry enters the Speed Force, he's greeted by Wally.  Wally isn't dead, but he's trapped in the Speed Force.  He seems older....wiser.  More concerned about saving lives than being a showboat....he's essentially spent an eternity in the Speed Force and has grown into a shell of his former self.

He discovered someone coming to destroy Central City, and he couldn't make his way out.  But he could send someone who he knew would draw Barry out.  One of Barry's descendants.....Bart Allen.

I read the Memory Alpha article on it.  It apparently had issues with certain terms of phrase and certain species (like the Breen).  It apparently worked off brain waves....which is a technobabble way of explaining how it would know whether or not to translate.  Maybe.

There are apparently some DS9 episodes I don't remember that dealt with language, but it seems to be a sort of "swept under the rug" idea.
