Rediscovered the show and Peacock and thought it held up OK, but it was really all the backstage shenanigans that I found the most interesting, especially after the Kromaggs were introduced.

I was eating one last night and thought of you.

I think it was just a plain McChicken sandwich?  It was definitely just a plain fried chicken sandwich with white sauce (mayonnaise?).  It's oddly specific for me because I don't remember eating McDonalds much as a kid, and I think I ate a lot of chicken mcnuggets back then instead of something like that.  I guess I was trying to branch out.

I haven't had McDonalds in 17 years so I could be mixing up their menu.

My memory is terrible.  My dad died when I was younger, and I essentially erased all the memories of him when I was younger.  Instead of doing that, I basically erased *everything*.  Not only is most of my childhood just completely gone, but I have trouble remembering tons of stuff that happened afterward.

No need to feel sorry for me - I had a great childhood regardless.  I only say that to illustrate that I have a handful of memories from that time in my life.  And one I can remember *very* clearly is sitting in the office of my mom's boss while she worked late certain nights.  I had a McDonald's fried chicken sandwich (which I can almost taste), and I was watching TV on one of those old TVs.

I was watching Sliders.  I don't remember which episode but it would've been season 1.  I was blown away by the concept, and I thought it was so much fun.  I can't remember many birthdays, trips, or stuff like that.  But burned into my memory is eating a McDonald's chicken sandwich in an office "late" on a weekday, watching Sliders.

It's been a little while since anyone posted here, but I wanted to share on this thread! I found Sliders on Comet when it premiered in 2020, but I was starting a full time job and college so I didn't really have the time to watch it everyday at 4:00 PM. I got the Mill Creek DVD set as it was readily available and only $20. Needless to say, I've watched a lot of episodes now. But I didn't really deep dive until I graduated college this past May. I'm in the middle of season 3 and just finished The Exodus 2 part episode last night. I'm interested to see where it goes from here, but I am skeptical too!

I digress the show clicked with me almost instantly when I watched the pilot and Fever. I was pulled in by the slight similarities to Quantum Leap (an overlap that seems to be shared around here) but hooked by the writing, characters, and overall feel of the show. It's definitely become one of my favorite sci-fi series and TV series in general!

Ironically, I too was lured in by the similarities to Quantum Leap, originally.  Additionally, ha ha, I also wasn't able to "deep dive" the show until The Sci-Fi Channel began playing reruns in 1998, and recorded them on like a dozen VHS tapes!  There were no DVR's or DVD's back then.

It's okay! I am going to see what happens from here. I do have quite a bit of The X-Files left to see for the first time also, so it's not a total loss for my '90s sci-fi fix. Plus I have the DVD set of the '90s Outer Limits arriving tomorrow. Lots to see when I get fed up with any changes made to Sliders.

It's the late 90's, I'm 14 years old, this show "Sliders" randomly appears on TV on a Friday night around 8:30pm.  I was always in a great mood on a Friday night because I hated school.  I vividly recall the scene from the pilot with the traffic lights, and being amazed at how uncanny that must be from his perspective.

The CGI effects were really awesome and cutting edge back then, the portal effect was very special to see.  It was almost like a whole separate reason to be interested in the show, just to see the special effects.   Of course, the stories and characters fell into place perfectly.  Every episode was a new adventure in a new world, the possibilities were endless.  I think it was the perfect show for me at the time.  Everything I could have wanted in a show, at the perfect time on a Friday night.

This also gets me thinking about scheduling and how it plays a role in the viewing experience.  Certain shows seem to lend themselves to certain time slots.  I'm starting to think that even the commerical breaks play a not insignificant role.  After all, these shows were written for ad breaks - the story plays out in segments.  Sometimes it's nice to take a 3 minute breather between segments to refresh your mind, context switch to the real world, then back to the fantasy world again.

Very good point about TV scheduling. There was something magical about the TV era, that is missing from the physical media/streaming era. Watching a show, that you really liked and having to wait a week, was almost like a special event in those days, now you can binge watch a whole series in a few days.

So, John the actor was about 50 years old when he played Arturo in the pilot. Or 49.

Jery O'Connell is now 49.  Jesus christ they are the same age.

It makes me nervous that you think I would give the "best" answer. I can only give you *my* answer. Please note that my head canon is not actual SLIDERS canon.

Tracy Torme's original intention was that in 1994, Quinn Mallory is 22 years old, born in 1971 or 1972, so Quinn is 50 - 51 years old today. Quinn's age is given as 22 in the original draft of the Pilot script. Jerry O'Connell was born in 1974 and was 20 when he first played Quinn. However, the second draft and the shooting script declare that Quinn is 25, born in 1968 pr 1969.

This was probably to widen the range of twentysomething actors. Quinn's in grad school, so he's completed his undergraduate and is at least 22; Quinn is said to be two semesters (so less than eight months) away from graduating. The Berkeley graduate degree in physics takes two semesters to earn (at least in 2023), so Quinn's scripted age of 25 strikes me more as a casting note than a serious story point.

And yet, in my personal opinion, Quinn is actually Jerry O'Connell's age in the Pilot -- 20 years old. I go with 20 because Torme says in "The Guardian" that Quinn skipped two grades, so that would make him 20 years old when he finished his undergraduate and started on his graduate program. Quinn would be 49 today and I consider the Professor the same age as John Rhys-Davies (born in 1944), so Arturo was 50 in 1994.

That said, I don't know how long the graduate program for Berkeley was in 1994 and if the shooting script said that Quinn was 25, there could be any number of props and onscreen documents that maintain that.
