I wonder if they're going to retire the Alan Rickman impression now

We were actually going to retire the whole Quick Impressions bit for the new season but since the behind the scenes stuff and deleted scenes is on par with how we did season 4, we decided to keep it in!

Alan Rickman lives on for us!

I've actually started a season 4 rewatch thanks to the rewatch podcast.  It's interesting revisiting the stuff... most of the time when I go and rewatch episodes its from season 1 & 2, and occasionally 3.

That's how it was for me too. I liked a lot more of season 4 than I thought I would. And so far, Season 5 is not killing me like i thought it would. I remember not watching it originally except for trace bits here and there. I was not happy with the OConnell's being out and it was my silent protest type of thing. Looking at it now I can appreciate it much differently.

Supergirl.

Watched the pilot. It was really bad. The writing was bad. The directing was bad. The actors were miscast, but that could be because of bad writing.

They didn't bother to build her world, develop interesting characters or make me care.

Superman was turned into a douchebag

I don't like the way Jimmy is being used. Aside from being the wrong personality,

Everything that made Arrow and The Flash work out of the gate was missing here. It is like they didn't even care about writing the script.

I like Supergirl as a character, but this just didn't work at all.

Agree with all of this!

James Olsen is so the wrong personality. I could care less what ethnicity he is as long as he acts like Jimmy, the dorky lovable, just wants to do a good job and impress his boss, all around nice guy. Instead we get broad shouldered, deep voiced, confident, GQ Jimmy.

And all the references to Superman are distracting and annoying because like you said, why WOULDN'T he show up to help. He can be there in seconds! Their chat on AOL Instant messenger was ridiculous too. Just show him. Or don't reference him at all.

Cat really rose to the top of this profession acting the way she does? Ick, nope. I really do not like the characters at all, Cat, James, Kara, her sister, their mother... I kind of don't mind Winn, but essentially, doesn't he come across as Jimmy-like? And I am a big fan of Dean Cain but haven't had enough wth him yet to say whether I like his character or not.

The biggest problem I see is that all these years, Kara just didn't use her powers because she was taught to hide them away (Oh hello, Elsa from Frozen). But then she sees a plane start to crash and decides NOW is the time? There has never been other great disasters before that she felt compelled to help? Why suddenly does she decide, now I'm gonna hero up?

And oh yeah, if she never used her powers really, why did she have to wear glasses? There is no reason if she isn't fighting crime as Supergirl.

LOVE this thread! That is all.

Yep we made a gaffe! We actually noticed it before this episode even went up and made the correction in the By The Way section which you'll hear in Monday's episode. Blame it on skimming and not reading fully!

It looks like Wally will be like Informant said: the brother she never knew.

Spoiler if you haven't watched the latest episode yet...

And Zoom is Tom Cavanaugh (Wells) I guess? I'm ok with that as I like the actor very much. Interesting to think that Jay Flash's arch nemesis would be the same as Barry Flash's arch nemesis kind of.

I am very glad that Iris didn't get ticked at Joe and that we weren't treated to a multi episode sub plot where the two avoid each other and give each other the stink eye.

I go there and do a search for episode title and then narrow it down by the air date so I get just the results from that initial broadcast time.

Luckily the Torme thing I said was from Messages in Time and was posted back on May 17 of 1997 by Peter Dimitriadis who said:

"At a con, Tracy Torme allegedly
said that if he were given full control of the series, the first thing
he'd do is strand Maggie on some random world, and hook the sliders up
with an alternate Arturo (assuming JRD was willing to come back)."

So it wasn't really me who was in accurate, it was Peter! Blame him! wink

Tom, it would be DIVINE if you rounded up your actor friends and did a radiodrama with Ib's Sliders revival.  And Corey does GREAT imitations. You guys would seriously do it justice.

I know but those guys won't touch it because it is a copyrighted work. Their only focus now is originals they can own and distribute and sell, which i understand.

Plus, like iReactions said, there will be comparisons and I especially like what he said about Robert Floyd; very good point and example. We discussed this a little in the episode we recorded yesterday but didnt go in depth into it as maybe we should have. You'll see!

In any case, great reviews ireactions! Appreciate the feedback! You always give me something more to think about. I listen to the podcasts my self when they released and I always think of more things to say after the fact and the same happens when i read your thoughts as well. In fact, our next show has a new segment I call By The Way, in which we mention something that we failed to mention or thought about AFTER we recorded the episode. So many times something you have said here makes me think, we should have mentioned that! Or when i'm driving I think, why didnt i make that comment about such and such?

Anyway, thanks again! we appreciate ya listening and chiming in!

Sorry to hear about the tech issues.

Continuing with thoughts on the "GF"/"Y&R" podcast -- I enjoyed Tom and Cory performing the 29.7 exposition scene that was cut from "Summer of Love." They did a fun job of playing the characters and Cory and Tom's impressions of Jerry, Cleavant and John are very funny.

However, this makes me more certain than ever that imitating the actors for a SLIDERS audioplay would be a very bad idea. I'm not saying it's impossible: Robert Floyd can imitate Jerry's voice well and Bob Joles made a career of copying John Rhys-Davies. But at the end of the day, I think a new actor playing these roles would be better off playing *Quinn* rather than imitating Jerry. If Rob found the time to perform dialogue for me, I wouldn't ask him to play Quinn the way Jerry O'Connell played him. I'd ask Robert Floyd to play Quinn the way Robert Floyd would play him. Same thing with Tom and his acting troupe.

Glad you enjoyed! It was a bit of fun we thought we'd give a go! And yeah, probably would be better to have new actors playing their version of Quinn. I wish I had time to devote to an audio play! I barely have the time to get in this weekly podcast! I'm a busy boy these days!

Oh the audio yesssss we have that figured out. What happened was there was an update to Cory's OS that broke his Skype recorder so we had to come up with a new method which resulted in an aggressive noise reduction filter unfortunately.

But alas all is not lost! Cory went and upgraded the Skype recorder (for an additional fee because everyone's gotta make money) and so the last few episodes should sound like the episodes of old, sounding as if Cory and I are back together sittin in the Sydney Opera House, recording the podcast!

Haha yes, that! We actually discuss that in the newest episode. I had never thought about it before that way, about how Derek may have been looking elsewhen and not the immediate next slide.

Also, wait until next week's episode! We wanted to time things a certain way, so we would end seasons together in one podcast, and so that a certain two parter would be in the same episode together as well, sooooo we have a "very special episode" of the Rewatch Podcast coming up in where we discuss THREE Sliders episode together! 3 for 1! This is merely one of those peculiar discrepancies. Like Rembrandt suddenly having served in the Navy! Which I'm sure can be resolved in some spin-off material. Like one of the online slides on the old Sci-Fi site later revealing that Rembrandt was a *cook* on a Navy ship. Get to it, everyone! Let's fine some way to reconcile the continuity here.

I was not an Arrow family this past season. Too much drama with Felicity. Much less of saving his city. Not that you can't do storylines like that but it went on too long. I also hated what they did to Detective Lance and starting the manhunt on the heroes. After all the arrow did and helped, Lance just becomes irrational. Didn't enjoy at all.

sliders5125 wrote:

So the next season everything will start over essentially now the reverse flash never existed to go back in time.

Same as the sliders episode that was in reverse

Quite different from the sliders episode really! But that said, I don't think they'll start over or reset Flash.

In our timeline we've seen since the show pilot, Barry becomes Flash 5 years earlier than he was "supposed to" because of Reverse Flash interfering and taking over as Wells. In ReversE Flash's original timeline he hadn't originally interfered and there was still Barry Allen as Flash except he became the Flash five years later, with Wells and Tess making the accelerator on the original timetable and his mom living and his dad never having gone to prison. Well we can surmise those events anyway.

So we have a younger Flash that we have followed since the beginning and an older flash that was around before Reverse Flash went back in time. The older flash had a different childhood and adulthood. He may have met the star labs people and he may not have. Or they may have a different friendship as well. He's a slightly different person.

Now that our younger Barry has taken out Reverse Flash, you COULD assume that our Barry's childhood should now revert to the way it was in reverse Flash's time, with no interference, a living mom, a free dad... and that would mean that our younger Barry would then not be the Flash 5 years earlier and everything we watched wouldn't have happened. I don't think they'd throw away the whole season like that.

The way they handled time travel is a bit confusing to figure out and from what I understand they'll be moving into multiple dimension storyline bow with several speedsters coming into the storyline.

Quinn does seem off put. He does smile a tad and smirk along with Remy and the Prof however in that one scene. Not as much as Remy and the Prof but there's still some if you watch the police precinct scene. Overall though he's definitely more of the voice of reason and respect. Im thinking maybe at first he just wasn't believing this was actually happening rather than laughing as enjoyment.

ireactions wrote:

I enjoyed the "El Sid" and "Love Gods" podcast too! I wish they were longer; I love listening to Cory and Tom during my commutes.

I'd disagree with Cory and Tom saying that Quinn was in any way enthused about being so in demand. Jerry plays Quinn as completely disgusted and repulsed throughout the episode. This is not a guy who has any patience or enjoyment for being objectified. Quinn Mallory has a sense of the big picture. This is part of why the character is so special to me. As a kid, I was really confused by girls and hormonal impulses. Quinn's frustration throughout the episode clarified things for me; he wants to be liked for the whole of who he is in body and mind. He's not exactly prudish, but losing his father as a boy makes him hesitate to produce offspring he wouldn't be there to raise. I really felt that in this absurd episode, Quinn Mallory was revealed as everything a man should be in relating to women.

Funny how in the two episodes where Quinn probably had sex (this and "Double Cross"), the show puts in some wiggle room!

I can't speak for Cory's equipment but basically we get on Skype, me using my iPhone and ear buds, and then I use a Shure SM 58 mic plugged into a Behringer mixer plugged into my MacMini which I record all I say into GarageBand. Cory's setup is similar I assume as he is recording HIS voice over there. Then I send him my file and he drops the two in together and edits out whatever we need edited out and adds in the music and little fun bits. He's the workhorse of this whole operation!

Thanks for the comments all! Much appreciated!

As far as Into The Mystic goes, I just never liked the "tribute" to Wizard of Oz. Much as I dislike MOST of the other tributes that end up happening in the series as it goes on. I enjoy the actors and characters but hated the way they tried to cash in on what was going on with movies and such. I would have loved to have seen a REAL episode done where the world was magic heavy. Less campy, less wizard of oz-ish. Maybe incorporating more of the witchcraft/mystical side rather than the smoke and mirrors we got. A world where Arturo would be hard pressed to say it's all explainable by science.

I don't mind the fact that they did get home; I like that actually, but the squeaky gate test to me is a bit too unscientific a test. Quinn and Arturo should realize that if there are infinite dimensions then there are infinite squeaky gates out there. Let's say the gate did squeak  that doesn't mean it's for sure their own home dimension. Given this particular slide though, they only had a minute to figure it out so it's understandable.

I think a neat twist would have been the gate squeaking, them staying, realizing it's then not their dimension, and then trying to recreate sliding so as to control it better. It would have changed the direction of the show for a few episodes as they work to figure out the tech, but would have been neat to have seen. They could have done a Wade voice over saying it's been so many months or years since they got stuck and so on.

Hey all, I'm pleased to announce a second Sliders podcast! More new Sliders content!

It was Jim and Mr Stargate from the Sliderscast that actually prompted the idea in one of their episodes and then though a series of tweets and "@" mentions there I was linked up with Cory who wanted to do a rewatch of the show and the rest is history now!

It's a bit different than the Sliderscast as far as format goes, as we cover two episodes of Sliders per podcast episode. If you're so inclined feel free to give it a listen and give feedback. Hope you find it enjoyable! Also, the Rewatch Podcast isn't limited to Sliders, rather it's a podcast devoted to rewatch it various shows and movies. Cory will be doing a Star Trek Movie Rewatch on the same feed as well. I'm not involved in that one though.

Just to note: Episode 0 is JUST about myself and Cory, a little insight into who we are. If you're curious about that, then listen in. If not, jump right to episode 1!

http://rewatchpodcast.podomatic.com/
