The weird thing is that TV shows can work wonders with a couple million dollars, but the same exact thing on the big screen would cost hundreds of millions. The system is flawed.

I named my book! I know that people will hate the name, but I decided that I don't care. I just haven't officially told the public the name yet, so stay tuned for that. At least that one small part of my stress headache is gone!

Actually, for some reason "Time Again and World" keeps popping into my head as I try to figure out how people will respond to my title. smile

The frustrating thing is that they don't go near Daredevil at all. The shows are taking place in the same area, yet neither show so much as hinted about the fairly huge events taking place in the other. That is even weirder than the fact that it's supposed to take place in the Avengers universe,  yet feels like a completely different animal.  They reference those events, but they feel so out of place that it's just weird.

Possible Small, Tiny Spoiler

.

On top of that, they reference the events of The Avengers in a way that makes it sound more like Man of Steel than The Avengers. Buildings falling. Thousands dying... I got none of that from the movie itself. It's like all of the other Marvel properties keep fixing Whedon's mistakes by retconning what happened.

Jessica Jones... I'm up to episode 10 or 11. It's far better than most of the Marvel products (makes Agents of SHIELD look like Saturday morning material). But not as good as Daredevil. At the moment, I'm thinking that the season is at least 3 episodes too long. They keep having confrontations, followed by someone doing something stupid, followed by another confrontation in the next episode. It makes everyone look stupid, and they keep doing nonsensical things, just to keep the story going for more episodes.

It's frustrating. It started out well and I hoped that it would get stronger as it went, but the closer I get to the end, the more it seem to be falling apart. I'm not thrilled as much as I'm rolling my eyes and yelling "Seriously?!" at the TV.

The crossover was good, but it just wasn't a particularly good episode for either series. It's an aside that doesn't really flow with what's going on on either show at the moment. That is odd, especially when you think about how they will release the show on DVD or on Netflix. It won't make much sense.

Overall, I liked the crossover but the big thing for me was Felicity. After the way she reacted to Oliver finding out that he had a kid (before it was erased) made me want her to leave the show. I want her to be the one in the grave now. Or maybe she just walks out. I don't care if they never even explain it, I'm just done with her. She went from being a great character, to being an annoying character, to being a complete b*tch. She is so arrogant and self centered.

This year has been better than last year for Arrow, but I think that Oliver and Felicity have been handled horribly still. Mostly because they're really pushing the relationship that doesn't feel right or natural. On top of that, they're dumbing Oliver down and making him less of a fighter, just so the group scenes play better. They should cut back on the big group outings and focus on one or two people going out at a time. The fights used to be really great on the show, but they're so watered down now. (plus, they always want to include Felicity, which leads to complete stupidity like the gun magnets or hacking construction equipment)

Eventually, Laurel needs to go off and be her own hero. She isn't supposed to be a sidekick for the rest of her life. She is the friggin Black Canary.

That is a weird notion.

My hope is that the Robin suit and the older Batman mean that we might finally get a Nightwing movie at some point. That would make the older Batman worth it, right?

I'm just going to back away from the Gitmo topic for now. smile

I agree about Clark's view of Batman, but I could also make an argument for him not being a fan. Clark grew up with strict rules about how his power should be used. To him, Batman could feel reckless and dangerous and Clark could easily fixate on all of the bad things that happen around Batman, because it would rationalize his own inaction for years.
Batman would be a legend, onto which people projected their own stories and ideals. To Clark, Batman could sound like an alien that has come to Earth and now uses his powers to force his will on people. I doubt there would be Halloween costumes if this Batman never showed himself, so he could be the monster under the bed for a lot of people (which is kinda what he was going for)

1,928

(1,098 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

I wonder... if Batman did exist in our world, how would people react to him? If you look at Gitmo, people who disagree with their tactics call it torture and want it shut down immediately. People who agree with their tactics don't remotely see it as torture and see no option but to keep the place (or somewhere like it) around. And as I stated above with attacks, many refuse to use terms like "terrorism" or "Islamic terrorists" because they don't want to concede certain points, politically speaking.

So if Batman existed, I can totally see a world where to Perry White he is Batman, the masked hero of Gotham who is willing to do whatever it takes to fight the bad guys. But to someone else he is "the bat vigilante", the madman who runs around in a costume, declaring himself the law. The subtle phrasing that people use, especially in the media, says a lot about those people.

I don't know if they're putting that much thought into such things, but in a world like I'm talking about, Clark could totally use that phrasing to get under Bruce's skin. I wouldn't mind seeing the movie reflect that part of the media, since so few movies or shows acknowledge that the "impartiality" thing flew out the window long ago.

Weird idea about Lex. When I looked at the picture, I started to wonder if Lex actually was Doomsday in the trailer (a failed attempt to make himself super)... but this could just be because both of them are bald. That is flimsy reasoning. smile

I'm late to this party... blame work and my lack of ability to think of a friggin title for my next book. But I have thoughts!!!

I can see where your concerns are coming from, but I am going to wait and see how the movie turns out before I criticize any actual plot. Half of the time, the trailers are cutting random scenes together to look like one flowing story, but it doesn't reflect the actual product at all. So, we'll see.

In a lot of versions of Batman, he isn't played as something as public as Superman. He is a legend within Gotham that people know about, but never really know for sure. So if this is the version that they're going with, then even an older Batman could be big news, as long as this is the first time he's shown himself to the public.

As for how well the press covers things... In the real world, there are plenty of issues that the press dances around and avoids all the time. It's the difference between a "mass shooting" and a "terrorist attack". Referring to a "bat vigilante" paints a very different picture than "Batman". So basically, I'm saying that when it comes to the press, I don't necessarily look for or expect common sense, logic, or reason.

The trailer was interesting, but it confused me. And I'm not sure that it's painting the right picture. This Superman doesn't look like the character from Man of Steel. He is angry and bitter and apparently has an army of Nazi soldiers bowing before him. I want to get a sense of the character from before. If he's changed, I want to know what happened. I get the intrigue of presenting him this way, but that really only works with the trailer from Batman's POV and I think it only works if there is another trailer from Superman's POV. This is a sequel to his movie, after all. I feel like they're making "Batman" trailers because they think there's more of a market for Batman than Superman. But people want to see both of these characters equally!

Batman in the trench coat. I've seen that before, but I can't remember where exactly. Damien as Batman? Or is it just ringing a Hush bell? Is this really Bruce Wayne? It's a cool image though.

The voice is Batman. It makes sense that he would use it even around people that he knows, because he is Batman. Unlike Superman, Batman is closer to his true self than Bruce would be (in Batman Beyond Bruce even thinks of himself as Batman in his own head).

The trailer overall just confuses me. I'm excited about the movie, but the trailer didn't give me a sense of what that movie is actually about. I find it kinda frustrating.

And Lex... I really hate the way he looks in the trailer. The portrayal seems completely wrong. He looks stupid. His voice is annoying. The question is, is this just his costume?

Wonder Woman. We didn't see much, but what we saw was pretty cool.

I am tempted to compare this to the Civil War trailer (which just feels like a response to BvS to me), but another part of me doesn't even want to go there. The two companies aren't even really competing at this point. They're playing completely different games, with completely different rules. I'm sure there's something worth talking about with Civil War, but if I do that here it could just muddy this conversation.

1,931

(1,683 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

It is weird. They have Jimmy Olsen on the show, but they don't call him Jimmy Olsen. Then they have a completely new character who they do call Jimmy Olsen. It's like someone had the "brilliant" idea to swap character names as some sort of twist on the plot.

The whole show is so oddly dated, it's like watching a show from the 80's or early 90's, but with actors from today. It's shallow and juvenile, and the production value sucks. The wig that they put on Live Wire was a joke, and the preview showing Red Tornado looked really bad too.

If they wanted a superhero that girls could look up to, why didn't they at least make her as cool as the women on Arrow or The Flash? She doesn't have to be Sara Lance, but some depth and personality would be nice. It's like they're playing all of the Donner Superman notes, which is outdated and cartoonish.

1,932

(1,683 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

My concern is that this is just another situation like last year's winter finale where they stabbed Oliver through the chest and threw him off a cliff, and then they resolve it by simply ignoring the magnitude of that event and having him walk it off. The flash forward tease is a promise that this is a major event. Someone important is going to die (according to said promise). Barry showing up implies that it is someone that isn't just a part of Team Arrow, but a part of the JLA that they're building on the show.

I feel like Lance will go, just because they made a complete mess of the character and he is the easiest to kill off. But I don't feel like that is actually the logical way to go in terms of the flash forward's promise, or just in terms of opening up stories for the remaining characters. If Lance is the one that died, it becomes weird that the big mournful scene was about Oliver and Barry, and not Laurel and Sara.

Then again, it would hardly be the first time that they side-stepped a legitimate and strong character moment for Laurel.

1,933

(1,683 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

I have real issues with how they're handling Oliver this year. They've made him pretty useless on his own show. He doesn't win fights anymore. He doesn't stop criminals anymore. It feels like I'm watching a giant epilogue to a Green Arrow story. Now he's writing in his journal, making goo-goo talk with Felicity and frowning about burnt chicken.

And while that's happening, there are really solid stories going on, but they're all happening off screen! I would have rather seen the past six months of Ray's life than Donna Smoak last week. I would have loved to have seen Sara come back. How does she relate to Thea (the woman that the blood lust is supposed to be directed at)? Maybe a line about Diggle naming his daughter after her, so she needs to live up to that honor now.

But no. Dinner was ruined and that was apparently more important.

As for Felicity... she is pretty stupid this year. She shrugged off her malfunctioning cell phone, which is just unforgivable. She is stealing money from the company to fund Oliver's campaign, while it's been made clear that the company is struggling to keep its employees. And they continue to try to turn her into a leading lady, which is a role that she is just not cut out for.

Between the two of them, I'm thinking/hoping that Felicity is the one in the grave. It's the only thing that makes logical sense, from a writing POV... so I expect it to be Lance, whose death wouldn't really have that big an impact at this point. Or possibly someone we don't really care about at all, so the writers could play up the mystery without having to follow through.

Is the sickeningly sweet Olicity crap this season merely a case of the writers sucking, or are they setting things up for the epic fridging of Felicity Smoak?

I think it is really interesting how you manage to juggle all of your tech. Right now, my laptop's fan is running constantly and it is pissing me off. That is going to take up all of my attention until I fix it. I can't imagine worrying about two other operating systems at the same time. smile

I got a pretty good deal on a 250GB SSD. It's half the storage of my old drive, but it should be enough for now. Especially with other storage options. Right now, I'm just happy to have the basics running a lot more smoothly.

Eventually, I'd like to get my old drive out, if only to reduce noise and power consumption. I'll keep it around for storage, but it doesn't make long-term sense to keep it internal.

It worked! I cloned my old drive over to the SSD, so everything is there. My old drive is still in the other slot in my computer (since I can't get the screws out), so now I have two drives... the SSD is super fast though. My computer was getting slower and slower to turn on, and even when I got it started (which took forever), I had to wait several more minutes before I could get anywhere on the internet. Now it's lightning fast to turn on and connects right away.

My sister in law taught me how to make enchiladas. I like her's a lot, so this was cool.
Then the first time I made them myself, I added an extra ingredient here, and more the next time. So, it's the same basic concept of a meal, but at this point, our two takes on that meal look and taste very different.

We all take bits and pieces of what we've seen before, whether from other books, movies or shows, or from the people around us. The question is, how do you take those ingredients and mix them together in a way that creates something uniquely yours? I've only read the beginning of your series so far, but from what I've seen it's pretty good. Don't drive yourself crazy.

If I remember correctly, Jim's wife had a number of backstories in the comics, depending on who was writing it and what the era was. If that's true, I'm not sure that there would be a point in trying to stick to comic book canon. She and Jim did have a villain son, so this is probably a take on that.

I am curious to see how Jim comes to have a daughter named Barbara though.

I am posting this here, because I doubt that the show will ever deserve its own thread...

Supergirl.

Watched the pilot. It was really bad. The writing was bad. The directing was bad. The actors were miscast, but that could be because of bad writing.

The show wants to be all about girl power. The problem is that unlike Sara, Laurel, Thea, Nyssa or Lyla, the fact that she was just a little girl was highlighted over and over again. They kept making excuses and apologizing for the fact, to the point where I felt like they were begging me not to turn it off.
And it makes no sense, because Kara would have no reason to feel this way. She is the second strongest person on the planet, from a world where women were powerful, now on a world where she is surrounded by powerful women. Why would this be an issue for her?

The issue shouldn't be an issue. They don't have to explain her being strong and heroic, they just need to write her that way.

But that is another issue. They didn't bother to build her world, develop interesting characters or make me care. Arrow, The Flash and Gotham had great pilots, so there is no reason for Supergirl's to suck. I want to know why she feels compelled to be a hero, the way Clark's upbringing informed that decision.

The execution of the fight scenes was weak, with obvious wire work. The shadowy government organization was a boring cliche that just isn't needed.

Superman was turned into a douchebag who dumped his newly (from her POV) orphaned cousin into a strange family and literally never spoke to her again. Why? If they just said that she knows him and he trained her, the show would only be better for it and his absence would be less awkward.

I don't like the way Jimmy is being used. Aside from being the wrong personality, he is just awkwardly playing go-between, despite the fact that there is no reason for Clark to not be there himself. Especially considering the size of this alien threat.

Speaking of which... Did they really try to go with "aliens don't exist" while knowing that Superman exists? Why?
Why did Kara take off her glasses to use x-ray vision? I can see through my glasses and I don't even have superpowers!
Why was her sister standing in Kara's hallway, yelling every super secret detail of Kara's life, loud enough for the entire building to hear?

Everything that made Arrow and The Flash work out of the gate was missing here. It is like they didn't even care about writing the script.

I like Supergirl as a character, but this just didn't work at all.

That's why I hate trailers. The people making the movie or show should figure out how to represent it in a trailer, because a lot of movies or shows have been destroyed by bad marketing. That is the first impression that we have of any project.

I don't blame the show really. I will check it out. But I will check it out after months of being completely annoyed by the way it was promoted. Netflix did the show no favors from where I'm sitting.

The same can be said with CBS and Supergirl. The promos look horrible. If the series proves to be good, CBS is responsible for making it seem like a throwback to 1993 and then deciding to air it at 8:30 on its premiere night, which is insane.

Yeah, I watched it. The problem is that I watched it with a lot of pre-existing frustration toward the series.

I think Daredevil had its first real trailer a couple of months out. But I don't mind teasers that are done well. I just think that they should tease rather than annoy. The teasers for Jessica Jones were old cliches and a cartoon that offered me nothing and left me to wonder why they didn't want to show me anything from the series (that was done filming an entire season).

It should be interesting to see what they do with it once we actually see that world. I hope the writers have put as much thought into it as the Fringe writers did.

Some are theorizing that if the CW and CBS ever wanted to do a Flash/Arrow/Supergirl crossover, the multiverse would be the way to bring her (and kinda-sorta Superman) into this world. But that is probably something that won't even be considered for quite some time. Supergirl could flop... and CBS is doing it no favors by putting it up against Gotham and then starting it at 8:30. Honestly, who the f--- thought it would be a good idea to start an hour long drama at the half-hour point?! Their theory is that they need the sitcom to bring in viewers, which just tells me that they have no idea what they're doing with the character on CBS. This character doesn't need a known name to bring in viewers, it just needs to be good!

I don't think that Zoom is Wells. I think that they're just using this opportunity to keep Tom on the cast. Making him the villain again would just create the same problem next year.

It is nice to see Iris and Joe have a healthy relationship, especially after witnessing the train wreck that is the Lance family on Arrow.

Arrow has been better so far this year... except Felicity. What the f*** are they thinking with her? They're writing fanfic around the character and putting it into episodes and it's complete nonsense. She can magically hack machines that aren't networked? And that's just scratching the surface. Nothing that they're doing with her makes sense! They're just trying to elevate the character to Oliver's level, but she doesn't need that. Felicity was fine the way she was.

My brother is one of my primary readers. He will do all of that nitpicking and force me to view my work from different angles. Hopefully he will be able to get to book 3 quickly.

I have another friend who is very blunt with feedback. He wanted my Strange Fall character to be horribly murdered for her stupidity. But that is also valuable feedback. But he is busy as well.

My whole regular team of readers/editors are busy, so I am making incredibly slow progress.

I am pretty much done with book 1 though. Now I can prep it for publication while I edit the rest. :-)

I haven't read the story yet (I will. I'm just way behind) but if you're not copying the plot or scenes of the Doctor Who episode, I don't think there will be a problem. If you were selling the story, people might comment on the similarities, but a lot of stories are inspired by other stories. I guess it is more about how you make the story your own.

What happened to me was someone taking my thoughts and my words and claiming them as their own. It was unethical from a writing standpoint and the woman who did it will never be hired to write anything because of it (insert evil laugh here). Had she merely written a story that had a similar plot element, I would have been less offended. In fact, I've seen similar plot elements pop up since I wrote my stories. Sometimes it is coincidence and sometimes it makes me stop and wonder. But as long as people are doing something uniquely their own with the stories, it doesn't really matter.

Interesting. I will have to check that out.

It would be nice if they went through their catalog and freshened up some of their old shows. Sliders is a show that still gets plenty of mentions, so it should be on their radar.

That can be a dangerous path to go down. Be careful that you don't get caught making revisions after every comment you get. I have a policy of finalizing my books at publication. Aside from formatting issues or other technical flaws, I just end the process. If someone dislikes something (which happens often enough) I just accept it and move on.

Others like to keep the door open for revisions, but that would drive me nuts.

That fashion isn't too out of line with how people dress today. Jeans, plaid shirt, boots... it's pretty timeless. Could his style change? I suppose so, but a lot of grown men are wearing those clothes today and we wouldn't look twice at him if he were wearing them in public.

His hair would be different though, I think. If not in length, then in style. The center part isn't done a lot these days.

Season 11 has started out pretty well. I like that they are taking more time to care about saving people and not just worrying about themselves. It feels right for this show.

The Darkness/Amara story could go either way at this point. Obviously, they need to build it up over the entire season and if they came out too big, there would be noplace for it to go. So far, it's cool. A little bit of a throwback to Lilith and also the Croatoan virus, but thus far it is leaps and bounds above the Leviathans (which I thought they were in danger of rehashing, which would just be crap on top of crap).

Castiel... I guess it's okay. They need to give Jensen and Jared some time off and at least Castiel has something going on this time and isn't aimlessly wandering around. I'd still prefer less demons and angels, but I doubt that this season will go that way. I can only hope that they are used well. So far, not bad. But do all of the angels have to be bad guys? I don't imagine that this show is going over well in Heaven right now.

Crowley was well used in episode 2. He was used the way that he should be used. The problem is the way he was used in episode 1 (which is the way he is usually used). It didn't fit the tone of the rest of the episode. It was silly and useless comic relief, which is the wrong way to go for the King of Hell. Crowley should not be a series regular. He should be brought in as needed, when he can serve a purpose. Most of his scenes last year could be cut while only improving the episodes in the process. I don't need to see his throne room. I don't need to see him in some random, wacky 70's throwback orgy scenario. When he is around, he should be imposing.

Honestly, I've been hoping for his death for years. Of all of the demons who could have taken over Hell, why did we get stuck with him?

The bulk of this season is solid thus far. I like the way they're hinting at God and what's going on in the Cage. I wouldn't mind seeing Adam show up again. They hinted at him last year for the first time since season 6, which got my hopes up. But if they bring in Michael and Lucifer, I just hope that they don't rehash what we've already gone through on the show. I hope they use it to close the door on a lot of the Heaven/Hell mythology once and for all, and they move in a different direction once this arc is complete.

Okay, thoughts...

Arrow:
So far, this season is okay. I don't like how they're writing Felicity the CEO. She comes across as immature and unqualified. I don't mind if she doesn't do this job well, but they're making her an idiot. Honestly, I think that they should have put her back in her old tech position and left the running of the company to someone else.

Damien is a cool villain. Much, much better than Ra's last year. I just hope that they don't drop the ball.

Green Arrow... It is fine that they are changing things up, but the show doesn't feel like the writers are taking it as seriously as they did in season 1. I know they have opened the door to a slew of superpowers and whatnot, but they should still try to make it feel grounded and real.

I find myself hoping that Felicity is in the grave. It just seems like it would open up a ton of stories and honest emotion. But they will probably go with Lance instead, since they've completely destroyed his character and he is the easiest one to kill.

The Flash:
So far, this season is going pretty well. I don't like the idea of replacing Ronnie and I hope that he comes back. But Jay is pretty cool and I like the way that they're using the alternate realities. It seems like they learned from what Fringe did, at least in the glimpse that we got.

Zoom is pretty scary. He could easily be a rehash of Reverse Flash, but they have avoided that so far.

So, how will they do Wally? Will he be the brother that Iris never knew she had? Will he be an Iris double from Earth 2? I still think it is way too early to be using him, but I guess I don't get a say in the matter.

I don't think that it necessarily takes away from the Joker story. He has always had many backstories and has always been a sort of demon that haunts the city. This story just plays a different version of that concept. The Joker can't make sense, so telling a sensible backstory here would probably feel wrong.

Your experience with writing those scripts is why I've always thought that fanfic is a good way for writers to get started. You learn a lot just writing it, and more when you get feedback.

The food was good, but there were a lot of people, so I didn't always get in line early enough to get the good stuff.

I am once again behind in posting thoughts on TV shows. Arrow, Supernatural and The Flash premiered. I should get around to posting thoughts on them at some point.

On another note, the delay was caused by the fact that I spent most of last week in the 1960's, working on a miniseries for Hulu, based on the Stephen King novel "11.22.63". It was trippy. Such an awesome experience.

So, I guess Jerome wasn't the Joker... Unless they're playing the Joker as an idea or a spirit rather than one character. Is he one person, or is he many people?

Yeah, I guess Jerome just wasn't the Joker :-)

Ringer was a fun show. It was over the top in a lot of ways, but it was interesting to watch.

Honestly though, I don't really remember the ending. smile

So much better than when you expect it to be long and it comes out at 50 pages. smile

omnimercurial, is that the Ringer that stars Sarah Michelle Gellar? It was on the CW a few years back, but canceled after one season.

I agree, mostly. The whole series feels muted and aimless to me. They started the series with a big exciting attack, but then immediately flashed forward a year, making that event seem less important. They could have just picked up that story from there, with most of the public feeling sympathy for the evos, but the mystery of who attacked the event. That would allow them to have a bunch of otherwise unrelated characters, united by this one event and hunted by whoever blew the place up.
Instead we get false mystery and Hollow intrigue.

Zachary Levi's character never got the chance to be dark and menacing. I never had the chance to believe that he didn't have powers before he did have powers. And his wife is friggin annoying!

I don't care about the Japanese characters who are just less interesting knockoffs of Hiro and Ando.

I don't care about Noah's meandering storyline.

Molly would have been a great character to focus on, if they did that. But they didn't.

Tommy is okay, but I feel like I've seen it all a hundred times before.

Carlos is okay, but seems useless. This is a big thing with the show. There doesn't seem to be a thread connecting any of these people. I'm sure that they will all unite at some point, but are we going to spend most of the series just spinning our wheels? How much of this series thus far could be edited out without hurting whatever main arc eventually comes out of it?

It would be different if these characters were very compelling, but they're not. So we have no plot and no characters. Why did they bring this show back?

I want to rewrite it so badly! But it would be a waste of my time, so I probably shouldn't. I could make this good though.

Hemlock Grove costs about $4,000,000 per episode. Daredevil had a lot of fight scenes, which take forever to shoot... in the streets of New York. They even had rain in some scenes, which is usually an expense that people don't bother with unless it's very important (Rob Thomas made a point about cutting rain out of the beginning of the Veronica Mars movie. He originally wanted to match the series finale, but decided that it wasn't worth the cost). New York is a union state, which means that long days with lots of different unions eventually add up. (I think the union rate for extras as of 2013 was something like $148 for 8 hours of work. Compared to a right to work state where non-union extras could get anywhere from $60 to $88 for 8 to 10 hours).

Basically, just filming in New York means that they're hemorrhaging money. The show might look small and quiet, but it takes a lot of work, time and money to make it look that way.

The problem, Jessica Jones isn't a small scale project. These Marvel shows on Netflix cost $200,000,000 to produce. That is spread across 60 episodes of multiple series, to be sure... but Jessica Jones is going to springboard Luke Cage. If Jessica Jones isn't a success, a spinoff from that series will be in very dangerous waters as well. On top of that, there are rumors that they're having trouble figuring out how to approach their Iron Fist series. So that series is unsteady as well. Right here, we have three out of their four regular series that are playing a giant game of Jenga. If those three projects aren't successful, nobody will care about The Defenders miniseries, which is what all of this is supposed to be building up to (we weren't even sure if Daredevil would have a second season originally).

This is a huge investment because it's all interconnected. Right now, Daredevil is generating buzz because of a solid first season and the Punisher introduction. Marvel/Netflix need to make sure that all three other series go off without a hitch though. It needs to be perfect. Jessica Jones could take down Luke Cage before Luke Cage even starts production.

"Jessica Jones" isn't Superman. They can't attract people with a name or a logo. They need to attract people with actual footage that makes people want to watch the series. The clock teaser and the bar teaser look incredibly unoriginal and not very exciting. The cartoon teaser... I don't know what they were thinking with that.

In terms of how they're budgeting, I'm not sure how smart they're being. The shows are set in New York, but New York is an expensive place to film. Even the extras would cost more there than many other cities. They're doing it anyway. Is that a smart way to spend money, or is that a luxury that they could make up for in post production if they wanted to save money? I'm sure that it looks better to actually film there, but is it necessary? I guess it's a matter of opinion.

I just think that they made the same mistake with these shows that they made with the Marvel movies. They made their success dependent on each other and the big event that they're building up to. They're building yet another house of cards.

The trailers are usually posted on entertainment news sites, and "geek" sites in general. So while I'm sure that there are some who probably would watch the show either way and some who will never see the trailers either way, the trailers are about generating awareness of the product. With Daredevil, the thing was the prove to people that this wasn't going to be like the movie, which the trailers did. People were talking about those trailers and that built excitement for the series when it premiered. With Jessica Jones, I don't know what people would be talking about, even if they did talk about it. On the site where I usually get my TV show news, people barely even comment on the trailers.

They use the trailers online to generate buzz. But people need something to buzz about if that's going to happen.

It is a mistake to ever assume that the audience will be there, especially with a character that we have no reason to care about. Agents of SHIELD gets to interact with the Avengers storyline and characters and they assumed that it would be a slam dunk, but it actually isn't doing all that well. Daredevil did much better (judging by critic reactions and fan feedback) and that has to piss off the mother ship, ABC.

Netflix had a flop in Marco Polo, so it isn't like people will watch anything that they put out. They should be taking this more seriously, especially since they have so much invested in these shows.

The impression that I get from these trailers hadn't been about mystery and intrigue. The impression I get is that they don't want to show us their star or any actual footage from the show. It doesn't look good from where I am sitting.

Of course, I watch everything so I will check it out either way. But that doesn't mean that everyone is like me. The first trailer literally made the show look like a cartoon. How does that help them?

There have been three teaser trailers released for the new Jessica Jones series, set in the MCU and premiering on Netflix on November 20. This follows Daredevil, and is building toward a Defenders teamup series.

But the weird thing is, we are less than two months away from release and they have yet to release a trailer that actually shows anything. The first teaser made the show look like a cartoon. The second just showed what I assume is a photo double passed out in bed. The third shows what is quite possibly another photo double from behind at a bar.

What good reason would there possibly be for not wanting to even show their star's face? I'm not even convinced that the footage from the teasers is from any episodes, because they tell us nothing. Why?

Could there be something going on behind the scenes that would prevent Netflix from using the footage? Or is this just an extremely strange campaign, especially since Jessica Jones isn't a very well known character outside of comic book circles?

I am just taking the show as it comes, trying not to think too hard about what needs to happen in order to line up with what I know about Batman. Granted, I sometimes theorize about why Jim would name his daughter after a psycho ex, but I try not to get too caught up in it.

For what it is, I think the show is going pretty well. Jerome is a great villain (though I hesitate to call him Joker, because they could pull that rug out from under us at any moment. Right now, he is just a crazy kid). Barbara is more interesting as a villain. Jim's mission is interesting to watch.

So far, I don't have any real complaints. I even kinda like the idea that Batman is the product of the city, rather than the usual idea that Batman brings out the crazies himself.

You sound like me.

I wanted to release book 1 in my series last November. I want to release them every four months, so I need to make sure that the ball is rolling really well before I publish anything. So November came and went. Then March. Then July. Now I'm thinking maybe March 2016... maybe.

I want to bang my head against a wall at this point. That said, I am putting what I hope are finishing touches on book 1 while I wait for editing feedback on books 2 and 3. Hopefully I will be able to start round 1 rewrites on book 4 soon. Book 5 will get difficult, because it was supposed to be a five book series, but book five turned into two books, so now I need to make sure that they both stand on their own. They should, but I might have to reorganize some things.

Please kill me.

But not really, because if I die before finishing this, I might kill myself.

Well, it premiered and I watched it.

I still don't think the show needed to come back. It's the same old story. The same lack of continuity (Noah apparently forgets that he has a son). The villain that Zachary Levi is playing comes across as a silly cartoon villain rather than a real menace (maybe if they didn't have him trapped in a kid's bedroom for two episodes...). The video game storyline was so stupid.
There are some good actors here. There might even be room for a good story. But rehashing the persecution storyline over and over and over again does not convince me that this series needed to come back from the dead.
