Hmmm, considering what a mess the Dark Universe seems to be, I wonder if they'll just scrap it. Cruise's star power could probably keep it afloat, but it seems horribly planned. They only have one filmed planned, a couple stars attached, and a ton of TBAs. Shouldn't be too hard to hit the eject button if they want to.

I've always really liked Will Sasso. I was a big MadTV fan back in the day, and he was always a great character actor. That's really cool that you got to meet him!
I don't blame Israel Jurabe for not really having much to say. I can't imagine it was a big part of his life, and it was 20 years ago. But it was still cool that he took some time to talk to you and say something.

Haha, come now. You can criticize that one line....it's all I ask
It's a great line for the trailer. It just needed to be cut for the movie. Or altered. Clark could say "Is she with you?" and Bruce could says something else witty. "I don't think she's with anyone" or "I think she's with us" or something. Or even just that Batman smirk to let the other guy know that he knows something the other guy doesn't know (even/especially when he doesn't).
Have fun at Wonder Woman!

And the Wonder Woman arrival was just cool.
What sort of ruins the whole arrival for me is the whole "Is she with you?" "I thought she was with you" back and forth....which literally only works for the trailer. It's a cool line but makes absolutely no sense in the context of the movie. Superman should be asking that, but Batman knows *exactly* who she is. She isn't trying to hide her identity, and maybe he's trying to distinguish between Batman knowing Diana and Bruce knowing Diana. But I don't think Bruce was supposed to be covering for her....I think it's a line designed for the trailer that they put in the movie and didn't edit out.

I just want it to all be over, one way or another. I feel like both sides are so petty about this, and it's accomplishing nothing. Trump is an idiot, but he's an idiot that no one on either side really wanted. I'm sure the Republicans are happy to have control of the White House, but I'm sure they wished it was by some other means. And the Democrats are so focused on what they feel was stolen from them that they can't do anything else.
If Trump committed any crime at any point....sure, get him out of there. But I'm still worried about the next domino. No matter what, the next democratic president is going to be under insane scrutiny. It doesn't matter who it is, but if the democrats thought the republicans were hard on Obama and Hillary...imagine all the insanity that will happen when they try and retaliate for Trump's dismissal.
Yesterday's shooting should've been more alarming. A shooting that was exclusively "us vs. them" politically motivated. No one died, but blood was shed in a (becoming-literal) war between republicans and democrats. As someone who doesn't identify as either, it's sickening to see how people are acting. Neither side has any interest in the high road, and both are de-humanizing the other to the point where I'm worried that events like this are going to be more common. If the people on the other side are just brainless monsters that are trying to destroy everything you have, why not just kill them all?
It's terrifying.

I forgot to reply about the Dark Universe.
DC/Warner has also been working on a Dark Universe project for a long time and I think there is a lawsuit over the name. If Universal's project isn't making them a lot of money, it may not make sense to fight for it.
The Weekly Planet was talking about this recently, and they were wondering if the "Dark Universe" name was just DC's insurance in case Justice League isn't successful. Because the proper name is "Justice League: Dark" - and the success of Justice League will probably affect the marketing for the "dark" movie. If Justice League is successful, DC will want to connect to it. If it's not successful (or at least not critically successful), then they might want to make it feel separate with a different-sounding name.
I'm still assuming Justice League will be great, and it'll be called "Justice League: Dark"

Re: DC Superheroes in Film (1943 - 2024) (1,098 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Would people (read: the assholes that harass women for being women that dare to do male things, etc.) go see a woman super hero?
I don't understand where this thought first came from. I think people are generally drawn to people that look like them (which is why women-led shows like Nashville and Scandal draw more women and African American-led shows like Empire draw more African Americans). After that, it's more about theme (which is why women watch The Bachelor (1 man, many women) and the Bachelorette (1 woman, many men) equally more than men).
That's why there's a need to race-swap and gender-swap...to make these movies more universal. But, at the end of the day, if you like superheroes, it doesn't/shouldn't matter whether it's a black woman kicking ass or a white woman. And I think, for most people, that's the case.
People like to blame the studios for not taking more risks, but my problem with that is that the studio isn't there to take risks. The studio isn't there to advance the cause of women or minorities. They're there to make money. A white male hero draws white males (who are used to seeing heroes that look like them) and minorities/women (who are used to seeing white male heroes). A black female hero might draw more women and minorities (who actively seek out someone who looks like them), but it might alienate white men (who are used to seeing white male heroes).
My belief is that it's a small percentage of people. But to make up for a small percentage of white male users (let's say 1%), they'd need a whole lot of people who don't usually see those types of movies to show up. In simple black and white numbers, that doesn't make sense.
It's the same with toy companies. Toy companies would *only* make Black Widow figures if that's what would make the most money, but they replaced Black Widow with Captain America because studies showed that it'd make them more money.
That's really it. Now they're still shortsighted because Wonder Woman is going to get girls more interested in superheroes and comics, leading to future dividends (more women will go see Justice League, for example). Black Widow action figures might not sell as well as Captain America figures in the short term, but if they get a number of little girls interested in action figures then it should also increase the number of Captain America figures that are sold.
The problem is that shortsighted is the name of the game most of the time. Most careers live and die by what's next, and if you spend too much time planning, you die. It's why James Cameron's 4 Avatar sequels seems so bizarre nowadays when the idea of a movie getting 4 sequels is really, really common. It's just the idea that someone has faith in 4 movies at the same time.

Re: Random Thoughts about TV, Film and Media (671 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Well, I'm not even talking about reinventing Sliders or even changing the roadmap.
I just know that one of the first clashes between Torme and Fox was about the show airing out of order. And that the clashes is what ended up, for all intents and purposes, killing the show.
If Sliders had been written in 1995, put in a box for 10 years, and then filmed in 2005, there would've been no issues with a show airing in a specific order. That might've made the relationship between Torme and the network easier.
Of course, the ripple effect could've made things worse. In 2005, there might've been added pressure to make the show even more arc-based. Instead of standalone episodes like Eggheads, we might've had entire episodes scrapped to see how Bennish is doing to find them. We might've had a Rickman-like character in season 1 instead of season 3, and once the Kromaggs were introduced, that might've meant all of season 3 (instead of season 4) would've been Kromagg-infested.
It's a delicate balance...these hypotheticals.

In the current comics, Wonder Woman is kind of a mess. However, the New 52 presented a Diana who could not fly; but during the course of her series, she was scratched by a feather of Hermes and gained the ability to fly.
I haven't seen the movie yet; but from what I'm reading, it seems like they're going with her 1950's power of being able to glide on air currents. It's something akin to Jerry O'Connells ability to levitate in "My Secret Identity", but he had no movement unless there was an outside force propelling him. With Wonder Woman, the strength of her jumps provide the initial boost for that.
There's nothing in the movie that makes things clear at all. It's obvious that Amazons cannot fly. In fact, they're not all that superhuman - not bulletproof and fought evenly (?) with a bunch of World War I soldiers.
It's hard to tell if Diana is bulletproof. She's never shown to be shot, and it's hard to tell if she's deflecting every bullet or not. She seems like a stronger/faster version of regular Amazons. She's shown to be able to jump higher/further than other Amazons, but if she can fly early in the movie, she doesn't know it.
In her fight with Ares, *he* can definitely fly. Later in the fight, she either absorbs his flying ability or learns to fly. And the final shot of the movie is her jumping miles (?) away. It does seem more like a long jump than flight, but it's really hard to tell. There's no mention of air currents, but it's possible that she and Ares were doing something with air currents. Even when he flies, it's more floating. She's definitely floating, but it's hard to tell if it's something she's doing, something she's absorbing from him, or something the "electricity" from Ares is doing.
It's not important (and I don't think she can fly), but it's just something that's been bothering me since I saw it.

Okay, I have a couple semi-spoilers questions. Neither really spoils anything in the movie, but it spoils ideas in the movie. If you don't want to know anything, stop here.

1. Can Wonder Woman fly? She doesn't in BvS, and there's a couple times in Wonder Woman where she *kinda* (?) flies? None of the other Amazons could, seemingly. Can she fly in modern comics? I know she flew in the DCAU, but I also know she had an invisible plane.
2. Is Steve Trevor a one-and-done character? The sequel is supposed to take place after Justice League. Whether or not Steve Trevor lives through the film, he's an adult in WWI. Does he sorta become the Agent Carter of the DCEU, where maybe he comes back in dreams or old age makeup? Or do they move on to a new love interest for Diana (Bruce Wayne?)?

Re: Random Thoughts about TV, Film and Media (671 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Well it sounds like so much of Torme's problems with the network were because he wanted the show put in a specific order. Back then, it was silly because TV wasn't serialized. Now, it's crazy that a show *wouldn't* be set in the order the creator wants. I know it happens sometimes, but now TV is so serialized that it has to be shown in order. People go back to binge previous seasons to watch a new season.
If Torme hadn't started off on the wrong foot, I think Sliders could've been a bigger success.
Man...I figured you'd have loved The Leftovers. It's so much about character...all the best parts of LOST. I don't know if a show has affected me as much emotionally. I think The Wire is the best show, beginning to end, of any show ever. LOST is my favorite show. The Leftovers might be the best of both worlds.

I do wonder if Sliders would've gotten a similar treatment if it had been done today. Especially with Torme at the helm.
I think Sliders ended up just being made too early. It was a few years too early from a serialization perspective, and I wonder all the possibilities it could've had to find an audience. Would it have been premium cable? Netflix? Amazon? Or would it have been something like Timeless on NBC and had all the same problems?

Anyone else watch 12 Monkeys on Sci-Fi (I won't call it by its new name)? I've really liked it so far, and I was a little worried when they announced they were going to release the entire season over one weekend (4 episodes Friday, 3 each on Saturday and Sunday). Especially after they'd announced that it was renewed for season 4 and cancelled after that. They released a trailer for season 3 months earlier, and I was worried that the season was terrible (and that the network was simply renewing to make up for extra costs and dumping the subpar season 3 so not to waste valuable airtime).
I'm almost done with the season 3 binge, and I've been impressed. It's not groundbreaking television by any means, but the show is fun and the characters are interesting. The network said they thought the show worked as a "binge-worthy" show, and since I've watched the whole season in a couple of weeks, they might be right.
I have no idea if the binge strategy benefits the network or not. I'm assuming the vast majority of people DVRed the season, and those results expire, right? But if it worked for them, do you think this is something that other networks would try?
Does anyone else watch?

Re: DC Superheroes in Film (1943 - 2024) (1,098 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
I mean, maybe I'm not watching these movies right, but I think they have gotten a lot better. Thor: the Dark World is a pretty forgettable movie, but I actually really enjoyed the others. Iron Man 3 isn't a great movie, but it's probably the movie that tried the hardest to be something else (it might have failed, but I really thought it was an interesting experiment in superhero films). Winter Soldier, Guardians, Ant-Man, Civil War (I really liked it), Dr. Strange (repetitive, but again, I thought it was fun), Guardians 2....these are the best movies and all better than most of Phase One.
If I had to rank the movies....
Iron Man (Phase One)
Captain America: Civil War (Phase Three)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Phase Two)
Guardians of the Galaxy (Phase Two)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Phase Three)
The Avengers (Phase One)
Ant-Man (Phase Two)
Iron Man 3 (Phase Two)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (Phase Two)
Dr. Strange (Phase Three)
Thor (Phase One)
Iron Man 2 (Phase One)
Captain America: The First Avenger (Phase One)
Thor: The Dark World (Phase Two)
The Incredible Hulk (Phase One)
I still think Iron Man is the best movie all around, but it's the only one in my top 5 from Phase One. Outside of Avengers (which might be too high on my list, but it's got a lot of re-watchability) the rest of Phase One is in my bottom 6.
For me, the DCEU is:
Wonder Woman
Man of Steel
Suicide Squad/BvS (I can't decide which one I liked more...I should probably rewatch both...Wonder Woman really made me want to rewatch BvS)
But I'm not even sure how I'd fit the DC films into my Marvel rankings because I feel like it's rating apples and oranges. That's my point, though. Marvel makes really good popcorn films that I legitimately enjoy. DC hasn't really mastered their formula yet....but it took an entire phase of "meh" movies for Marvel to get theirs right.

Re: DC Superheroes in Film (1943 - 2024) (1,098 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Well, it's hard for me to say because I liked those movies. Plot incoherence doesn't typically bother me as much as character incoherence. And I tend to give Marvel movies a pass because I feel like they know what they are. DC movies, for the most part, want to take things more seriously (and, in turn, I take them more seriously). Iron Man's character arc can be more fluid than Bruce Wayne because Iron Man doesn't take things seriously so why should I?
I do think they kept this one simpler than BvS and Suicide Squad. There are a couple of detours along the way, but it's a fairly one-track plot. Diana has a goal and works to achieve it. I think, at parts, it becomes the "Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor" movie, but by the end, you know who the hero is. The rest of the characters are pretty weak, but it doesn't really matter to me.
I did read a review that talked about how similar the movie is to Captain America: the First Avenger. And I do think that the second half of both movies are somewhat similar....star-spangly dressed person with opposite sex military liaison goes across a warzone with a band of forgettable mercenaries to stop a German army with a supernatural leader. I liked Wonder Woman better than First Avenger, if only because I think First Avenger might be one of the 2 or 3 worst MCU films, but I can see it. Part of the film does feel like it wants to be set in WWII instead of WWI, but it doesn't really hurt anything. To be fair, I also don't think the movie really takes advantage of the WWI time period...which could've made the movie even more special.
As we've had these discussions more and more, I look back to the MCU's start. Iron Man is the best of them (and might still be), and the rest of the phase one movies are pretty meh. Incredible Hulk is all but forgotten, Iron Man 2 is very pedestrian, the first Thor is fun but fleeting, and I already talked about First Avenger. The universe didn't really "work" until the Avengers, and then (in my opinion), the movies started to feel connected and fun.
I think Wonder Woman is the best film of the DCEU. If Wonder Woman is the DCEU's "Iron Man" and the rest of the pre-Justice League movies end up being equatable to the MCU phase one. If that's the case, the DCEU will still be in phenomenal shape.

I don't have a lot to say about it, but Wonder Woman is great. It's everything that DC movies need to be....fun and fantastical but still grounded. Diana comes off as a character who is both insanely powerful but also very real. In my opinion, it's easily the best of the four DC films, and if they can capture this tone with Justice League then it's going to be a huge success (critically and financially).
I'm also very interested in another Wonder Woman solo film set between this movie and BvS. I wasn't sure what to make of Gal Gadot before this, and while Chris Pine does a decent amount of heavy lifting in this movie, she's great in the role.
Check it out for sure.

It's not as terrible as I was led to believe. But I did notice that Finn Jones' action sequences (especially at the beginning) seemed like they were at 3/4 speed. Yeah, the sounds of people eating makes me want to shoot myself (I think this is an actual condition with a name, but I forget it), so I don't need more of that in a movie theater.
I've been to Studio Movie Grill way more than Alamo, but it really doesn't bother me. I have a friend who refuses to go to those places because of the distractions, but I don't really even notice the other people. Sometimes the smell of food is a little distracting, but I usually like killing two birds with one stone and getting dinner while I'm watching a movie (instead of one, then the other).
I usually don't go for a movie that I'm excited about seeing or want to pay attention to everything (say, an Interstellar), but for something like Guardians or Wonder Woman....it's fine. I probably won't be missing anything crucial if I look over to see the server for a second ha.

They've made implications that Superman exists in the universe (the biggest example is Rip Hunter's comment about "Men of Steel" in the Legends pilot). So where is he? Is he younger than everyone so he hasn't shown up? Did his pod get knocked off course? Or is he doing some sort of Red-Blue Blur thing in Metropolis and trying to stay off the radar.

I'm still not 100% how these movies are gonna work. Is Tom Holland able to do cameos in this universe? Will the Venom movie be in the same universe as the Black Cat movie? Does anyone think a "Spider-Man's guest characters universe" is sustainable?

If I were Felicity, I'd probably have just found a way to contact Cisco and have him Vibe the whole team out of there, but that might be too simple.
Don't get me started on the lack of communication between Team Flash and Team Arrow. Couldn't Barry have fixed 99% of the problems this season? Barry could've found William before Chase even knew what was happening without putting anyone in danger.
What's funny is that a couple lines of dialogue would fix stuff like this. "Can't we just get Barry to super-canvass the island?" "He's not picking up. Not even Cisco. Must be something with Savitar." They do little things like that at times (when it was mentioned that Felicity was looking for something to power the cannon on Flash), but there's not enough of it to avoid question marks. I know that there needs to be some separation (otherwise Oliver has no reason to do anything but investigate and point Barry in a direction), but for big events like this, they need to acknowledge that they're on their own.
Black Siren has a really bizarre sense of loyalty. Evelyn was just evil for no reason. I got nothing on either of their random decisions to be evil. I also thought Boomerang immediately switching teams was strange.
I actually didn't like Chase as a villain. I don't know why....it never worked for me.

Well, that was a heck of a cliffhanger on Arrow.
It was also quite the spectacle. A ton of characters returning, one big death (off screen but confirmed by the actor), potentially a ton of big deaths (but certainly not), some pretty good action, and the culmination of five years of storytelling.
But I left it sorta "meh" for whatever reason. I thought it was well acted and well executed, but something about it felt really off to me. What could've felt like a triumph of Arrow just sorta happened. I don't know what it really was about it that didn't work for me...was it like that for anyone else?

Yeah, I think there's a less-than-zero chance that Barry is gone. I just feel like his character is such a mess that it wouldn't be the worst thing if he never came back. And that's notable since "Barry getting replaced by Wally" was my exact fear going into this season. Season 3 just left a bad taste in my mouth.
I'd probably check out Agents of Shield before you check out Supergirl. I still like Supergirl, but I don't think they changed anything. Shield, at least in my opinion, is noticeably better.
It probably makes more sense to send Mon-El away (with the other Daxamites) because he could, at least, be with his own kind. Sending him to Earth 1 might make for some interesting storytelling (he'd be the strongest character in Earth One, right?), but I think sending him into space makes more sense (for him) than sending him to a planet where he'd be the only alien.

When I was watching live, I thought they were referring to Doomsday too. But the last words were "it will reign" - so people are speculating that they're talking about this character.

I don't know anything about her so I'll defer to any of you guys.

I already deleted it, and I forgot....was Tracy with the group at the end? Was Julian?
I actually left sorta hoping that Barry was gone for good....that's sorta where his character has dropped for me. And Wally wasn't as annoying in the second half of the season...I think being trapped in the Speed Force brought him back down to Earth a bit in a much better way. I almost think it'd be better for the show if they didn't have Barry's baggage dragging it down.
Of course, they won't do that. But maybe some time trapped in the Speed Force will do Barry some good. We need him to FINALLY let go of his demons and just have fun. Let Oliver be dark and brooding...let Barry be the light of the Arrowverse.
As far as the team goes, they should keep Tracy on board if Caitlin is truly gone (I thought her staying as Killer Frost was a really bold move). I think Julian could be a good member too. I'm also hoping Harry stays on too.
It was a very meh season. We need a soft reboot. Come back fixed, Barry.

The people that are using this tragedy to make fun of Zach Snyder are horrible. Movies are movies. Life is life. Whether he's succeeded or not, this guy has poured his life into these movies. He wants them to be great, and he wants everyone to love them. And now he's really, really hurting. This is a time when everyone needs to be wishing him well, not continuing to tear him down.
A bunch of free time that can be put toward watching BvS (the extended version) again!
It's actually first on my list of things to do! I'm going to go from 13 active weekly shows to 6 after this week. I'm moving this weekend, but then I should have more time.

I doubt Informant has kept up, but I'm guessing he wouldn't have enjoyed the Supergirl finale much. A lot of sappiness, but also a *ton* of Superman telling Kara that she's better/stronger than him.
I actually thought it was pretty good. The Superman/Supergirl fight was a bit understated, but I thought it was pretty well done for a CW budget. All in all, I've been pretty impressed that I haven't really noticed much of a difference in the budget from CBS to CW (Metallo's awful suit notwithstanding). Man of Steel is a more realistic depiction of the carnage that would be created by Kryptonian-on-Kryptonian brawls, but for TV, I thought it was pretty cool.
I also sorta love the little hints that Superman has been in an 11-season show, and we're seeing glimpses of it. He drops hints of Warworld, and the Zod stuff is simply played off as if we already know who he is. I thought that was a pretty cool way to do the Supergirl/Superman fight. I don't love Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, but I think he works for the show.

Re: DC Superheroes in Film (1943 - 2024) (1,098 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
I agree. My only fear is that this was already a movie that was a little out of scope. The tone is already much different from the tone of Batman v Superman, and I assume that wasn't part of Snyder's original plan. So we might have a movie that's:
Part Snyder-Doing-The-Studio's-Vision
Part Snyder-Doing-His-Own-Vision
Part Whedon-Doing-Snyder's-Or-The-Studio's-Vision
I'm hoping that I'm wrong....that Snyder was always planning on making things lighter and brighter. That Whedon can seemlessly do things the same way Snyder was going to do it. The Justice League trailer looked good. I'm hoping it stays on the track it was on. I'd really love this movie to be great

It did feel like there were two factions in the writers room - the Men of Letters team and the Nephilim team - each that wrote out full conclusions...and then the show decided to cut both in half and air them both. It did feel like different seasons.

Re: Supernatural (267 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Well, here's my thinking.
Getting her back risks getting Lucifer back. I know she's family, but that's a huge risk bringing her back. And, like I said, I feel like it's almost a happy ending for her. She never really belonged, and she only felt comfortable hunting. Now that's all she'll get to do. Bobby seemed like he was at peace in that world (he never asks to come back with them), and I think she'd be the same way. I agree that she'll probably come back (with Lucifer), and they probably needed a better goodbye if they were going to do things that way (where she chooses to go). But if this is how it ends, it's probably the happiest of all the endings we got in that episode.

Re: Supernatural (267 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
I was surprised about Rowena, if only because I thought she deserved an on-screen death. I don't know if it was a scheduling issue or some sort of problem with the actress, but she'd become an important-enough character that it was a bit surprising that she was burned to a crisp off screen (the overkill of her death seemed a bit like the Arturo death in that way).
But if Crowley is dead, there's really no reason to bring her back either.
I do hope that some of these deaths stick, although I also fear that they're gonna bring all of them back. I really liked Crowley's death. He's always been a "bad" character that's usually leaned good, and I'm glad he finally realized that. He's been an antagonist, but he's done about as much good as Castiel (and is just as likely to help, it seems). To have him sacrifice himself to trap Lucifer is a pretty cool thing.
Cass' death was way too casual to stick. I wouldn't have minded if the baby had been born (as a baby) and Castiel had left the show to take care of him. I know they want to do the nephilim storyline, but that could've been something that was in the background. If this is how Castiel dies, it was almost as unceremonious as Rowena's death. And I'd leave Mary and Lucifer trapped in that other world, never to appear again. She gets to be with Bobby, living kickass lives as full-time hunters. I think that's, in a real weird way, a happy ending for her.

Wow, that's quite the finale.
Do we think (SPOILERS) and (SPOILERS) are going to stay (SPOILERS)? And were you upset that (SPOILERS) so so unceremoniously (SPOILERS)? I also liked the surprise (SPOILERS) of (SPOILERS) in the (SPOILERS)?
In all seriousness, I thought it was really thrilling. And in the penultimate one, I was shocked at how emotional Dean's talk with Mary was.

I agree. I think these writers are better at story, and I think they have a decent understanding on who Oliver is and what makes him tick. I think they have a respect for the material, and I think tying it all back to the island (where the flashbacks and the main story can finally converge) is pretty cool.
But, yeah, they make some bizarre decisions regarding character motivation. Oliver's kill/no-kill policy has always been all over the place, and drudging that moral quandry up doesn't work for me. Evelyn's whole thing doesn't make much sense. I don't think Chase's motivations are all that logical. Wild Dog's whole past is bizarre.
They've shown me enough to trust them to work with season 6.

ARROW was good. I was surprised to see Deathstroke back and played by Manu Bennett. For the past few months, Bennett had declared that he was not returning to ARROW, that announcements by the producers were vastly overstating his involvement, that it hadn't been him in INVASION and it wouldn't be him in the ARROW Season 5 finale and that he had been greatly displeased with his last episode and that the ARROW producers were reusing previously recorded dialogue and a stunt double to have Deathstroke appear. So it was nice to see him at the end and realize Bennett had been trying not to spoil a surprise.
Someone should've told the CW about how hard Bennett was trying to cover up the idea of him not returning because his return was in the sizzle reel released a few weeks ago.

As for who died, I think Iris had to be the one who was stabbed. There was no time for HR to change places with her. However, there has to be a twist, right? Did they find a way for Iris to be stabbed, but survive? I don't know. If it ends up being a switch, where HR died in Iris' place, I just don't think that it makes sense.
The switch would've happened on-site. Savitar is holding (the real) Iris in the middle of that square. Flash gets the cannon and shoots it at him, and Savitar leaves Iris where she was and runs around before Flash finally hits him with it. It's not a ton of time, but it'd be enough time on this show. Maybe HR took some of the Velocity drug that Jay created, or maybe they were able to heal Wally enough to swap them out. Or maybe that's where Jessie or Julian was...helping HR sacrifice himself.
It'd be a bit of a stretch, but that's my guess. There was too much setup for an HR sacrifice, IMO.

I also don't know why they keep insisting on going to the Kirk era (it's still during his lifetime). It's been covered....let's do something new.
I still sorta liked the idea that someone had back in the day about an Alpha Quadrant that's been devastated by an Omega Particle. So simple space travel isn't simple anymore. Set it in 2600 so that technology could be improved and no one from the TNG/DS9/VOY era would be alive.
It's also weird that they changed the uniforms again. Although I guess the TNG/DS9/VOY era showed that they change uniforms like they change underwear at Starfleet.

Re: Arrow (with some Flash and Supergirl spoilers too)
In "how these people could be smarter by understanding that they live in a shared universe" part 271, Flash hid Iris in Earth 2 when he realized she was in danger. Shouldn't that have been the first place that Oliver (or anyone on Team Arrow) thought to hide? Especially since Savitar could easily go to Earth 2, and as far as we know, Chase has zero ability to get them there.
One thing, though. In all three shows, I was impressed by the deep rosters they were able to work with. Supergirl brought back Cat Grant and Superman, while also having the Luthors working with the full DEO team. Team Flash was at about 100% to deal with Savitar, adding Harry and Tracy. And now Oliver is fighting a team of villains and former heroes against a team full of heroes and former villains. These shows might not be the strongest, but they've built up a pretty cool history that they can work with.

Are we talking about discovering the truth here, or are we discussing finding any excuse to get rid of Trump? If it's the first option, people are putting the cart before the horse. If it's the second option... Have fun with that.
Well, this is my next big concern. People were talking about impeaching Trump before anything happened. Before he took office.
And I'm worried about two things:
1. Is this going to be the new political world? If we don't like a president or didn't vote for him/her, we're just going to demand impeachment at every turn for any reason? Not just "I don't approve of the president" - "HE/SHE HAS TO GO!"
2. What if they get Trump on some sort of technicality? Not necessarily a crime...something light and flimsy. Doesn't that set a terrible precedent for future presidents? Wouldn't hardcore republicans try the *exact same thing* with *whoever* the next Democratic president is? Put pressure on them from day one....wait for any mistake...and strike? Trump's awful....but wouldn't any president make a mistake under 24/7 scrutiny?

Re: American Politics: Discuss and Debate (3,508 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Watergate took over two years to reach Nixon resigning, at which point formal impeachment proceedings had barely started. And that was with the opposing party in charge of both houses of congress. If there's anything to this, it will take a while before it's resolved.
That's the thing about this stuff. People are so eager to get Donald out (for anything) that I've seen posts since January asking what's taking so long. The last time we did impeachment stuff (Bill Clinton), it took months of investigation.
The only reason this might go faster is, ironically, that the Republicans control Congress. If the investigation clearly looks like Trump is guilty, it'd benefit the Republicans to get the proceedings going ASAP. Not only would it possibly help Republican incumbents in 2018 ("I stood up to corruption in Washington and voted out Donald Trump"), but they're doing to want to put as much distance between this and 2020. If Mike Pence gets 2+ years in the White House and things go pretty well, he'd essentially get the same bump as any incumbent president. That didn't really help Ford, but again, if it goes well....
