You stop worrying what other people think about you when you realize how seldom they actually do.

My impression is that Michael Mallory said he would help, then died before he could.  Young Quinn feels abandoned by his suddenly missing father.  The bullies sense his weakness and scale up the abuse accordingly, as the Code of TV Bullies requires.

Trump has lost his impeachment defence lawyers. Not that it matters. He could just represent himself. Senate won't vote to convict him.

He could not show up at all and he still wouldn't get convicted

That's why I suggested getting it done before Thanksgiving.

The electoral college meets whenever the law tells them to.  It can be changed.  We don't need six weeks for the electors to travel to the state capitol by stagecoach anymore.

It's not like changing it is unprecedented.  The lame duck period used to even longer, with inauguration day coming in March.

Like now. The election has been certified. It's over. Why are we still waiting around for inauguration?

I know why, it's because of a law written when jet travel and interstates didn't exist and it actually took weeks to move about the country.

That day is over. It's time we caught up with the rest of the civilized world.

It should be...

First Tuesday in Nov: Election Day!

Second Tuesday in Nov: Electors vote in their states

Third Tuesday in Nov: Congress certifies the electoral count

Third Wednesday in Nov: Inauguration Day!

I don't actually object to spending money on refurbishing ships or doing fringe research.  I do object to mislabeling it as emergency relief so they can come back and say "how will we pay for it?" when something more beneficial comes along or take credit for "$900 billion to help struggling Americans" when 90+% of it is going to other things.

196

(3,486 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

He's doing the right thing for the wrong reason.  The "relief" bill is an obscene barrel of pork.

Just for perspective, about 330 million people live in the USA. $600 each is less than $200 billion. The stimulus bill is over $900 billion. The vast majority of the money is going to special interests rather than the people.  $2000 to each of 330 million people STILL wouldn't add up to $900 billion. It would be less than $700 billion.

The lawsuits are just another way for him to fleece his supporters.  All the money donated to the "recount fund" goes to either retiring Trump's campaign debt or to his "leadership" PAC (which is legally prohibited from funding recounts or challenges to the vote tally).  That's why he and his people always urge people to donate when they're talking about legal challenges.  All that money goes right into his pocket.

So now the only real threat to Biden is faithless electors.  But there hasn't been any legit concern about that - yet.  I'm assuming it'll ratchet up a bit in December.

Also the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that faithless electors are illegal this summer in Chiafalo vs Washington

Yeah, the NYT story is more of an indictment of the US tax code than Trump.  It also demonstrates why raising income tax rates is bad policy.  The burden falls primarily on the middle class because the wealthy don't rely on wages and have many more options to obfuscate their income.  You'd need a wealth tax, specifically a land value tax, to get the fat cats to pay their share.

The feeling is that the Democrats will pack the court.  They see the Democratic platform say "Since 1990, the United States has grown by one-third, the number of cases in federal district courts has increased by 38 percent, federal circuit court filings have risen by 40 percent, and federal cases involving a felony defendant are up 60 percent, but we have not expanded the federal judiciary to reflect this reality in nearly 30 years." and are convinced they will try to add more judges at all levels, including the SC.

Well the national polls are tightening.  The swing state polls are holding pretty steady.  The midwest and Arizona look like locks for Biden.  If they are, Biden just needs one of: North Carolina (Trump barely winning), Georgia (Trump barely winning), Ohio (Trump barely winning), Pennsylvania (Biden winning by above the margin of error), or Florida (Biden barely winning) to win.

The thought is that Trump's just solidifying his lead in red states because any bump he's gotten in the national polls isn't showing up in the swing state ones.

You say that, but the EV total of the states Biden is leading is down to 290.  That's the lowest it's been since Biden secured the nomination.

Which has as much evidence behind it as saying Antifa and the Sunrise Movement are orchestrating it.  We can spin conspiracy theories all day, but the truth is that criminal elements (no matter their race, religion, gender or creed) saw their opportunity and seized it.  And on all news channels, those criminal acts received as much (or more) coverage as the peaceful assemblies.

Actually, there's quite a bit of evidence that white supremacists and undercover cops are instigating.  The handful of police deaths have all resulted in arrests of Boogaloo and other alt-right perpetrators.  Undercover cops have been outed in dozens of cases of vandalism.  There's a long, long history of police infiltrating peaceful protests to make them seem less peaceful.  As for violence, the number of dead and seriously injured protesters dwarfs the number of wounded cops.

People don't mind the military being used for crowd control when they disagree with the crowd.  Don't hear many people today complaining about federal troops being sent to the south to enforce integration.

The main reason I stand up for season five is that it started to feel like Sliders again.  No more monsters, only one Kromagg episode, and lots of worlds with potential.  Much of it is wasted due to budget restrictions and poor leadership, but it's a huge improvement over S4 and the last 2/3 of S3.

Welcome aboard!

I never watched Parks and Rec before.  I decided to go ahead and do it since it's on NetFlix.  Midway through the first season  and I keep thinking "Is this it? Is this what people were raving about?"  I'm told it gets better, and the first season on a lot of shows isn't really indicative of their run (BTVS, ST:TNG, etc).  We'll see how it goes.
