Might be a dumb idea, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work in the continuity of Sliders to allow them to communicate with each other no matter where they are.
Certainly worked for the Kromaggs!
Perhaps the Sliders could be using borrowed Kromagg technology to communicate

What would I like to see with Sliders? A continuation with new characters that play in the same multiverse as the original series. It could retain the brand; give the new show room to live and breath; and leave the door open to occasionally visit the memories as more than a subtle wink. It would be part of the family and not a stranger at the door.
The genius of Sliders is that everything is potentially part of their multi-verse. So, yeah, a reboot could run across any or all of the old Sliders either together or separately. They could revisit the world with living flames or Caffeine World or Einstein World or whatever.

You would probably want him to. One of the things that got Trump elected was low turn out in certain areas; and this virus would depress turn out.
Trump would be better served to let the election happen as planned. Trump’s passionate supporters would turn out; but that passion just isn’t there for Biden. Biden’s votes have been driven by fear; and in a battle of fears, fear of getting infected is going to win.
He'd never reschedule it. It would be the end of American democracy.

Superheroes are uniquely irreplaceable. One person getting bitten by a radioactive spider and developing superpowers is within the realm of things one can suspend their disbelief of. Another person having an unrelated event happen and developing the exact same powers is too much.
Shows like M*A*S*H and Law & Order can turn over their casts with no ill effects, or even be improved by it. There are always more doctors, lawyers, nurses, and cops. When a character has unique abilities, replacing them becomes a problem.

Re: Kliss: I'm Half-Obsessed with Sliders (16 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
The biggest problem with getting the original cast back to do a series is age. John Rhys-Davies is 75 years old. Will he be willing or able to fall out of the wormhole every week? If they use a body double, would it be believable? Cleavant Derricks is 66. He's a little more likely to be able, but for how long?
I think a reboot is best. All new characters, or younger doubles of the originals (The Guardian establishes this possibility), or some of both. If they really want to throw a bone to viewers of the original show, have the New!Sliders encounter one or more of the originals during a slide. Ireactions liked this idea when I first proposed it, and he doesn't like many of other people's ideas.

So I've only seen seasons 1 & 2 so far and from what I've come across...Arturo dies in season 3?! I'm not looking forward to that episode. But I'm really curious, what episodes would any of you advise for me to watch from seasons 4 & 5?
Check out https://earthprime.com/ Their episode guide is excellent and they have a ton of other Sliders info. The archive of the sadly departed Dimension of Continuity https://web.archive.org/web/20160809215 … nuity.com/ is also worth your time.
I'd watch 'em all if I were you. Even the worst ones have some interesting bits. The last three seasons are a big step down from the first two. I'm not as down on them as ireactions, but I also can't really argue with any of his points.

That's the weirdest part. Traditionally, mermaids were all black.

Given the glaring weaknesses of the case they brought (no murder weapon, no witnesses to the crime, no witnesses that can place the defendant at the scene, no fingerprints, a very narrow time window, a defendant with no criminal record, police and crime labs that can't follow the most basic standards of evidence handling, trying to convince a jury that 50 year old man who's had 16 knee surgeries knifed to death two fit 30-ish people without either of calling for help or running away or fighting back enough to put a single scratch on him) it would have been much better if they had not brought it. Alternatively, they may want to wait until the primaries so that it will be too late for the Republicans to choose another candidate. If the case is strong, Trump will be unelectable and many Republican senators will be stuck trying to defend votes in favor of keeping him in office.

Re: Do we miss Informant? (74 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Bringing in new characters to Sliders is tough on several levels. There's the stuff talked about above with the new characters being aliens from a different world vs the Sliders getting home only to slide out again for some reason. There's the question of motivation for a new character to slide, presumably knowing they can't go home again, or to keep sliding if they were escaping a doomed or dystopian world like Maggie. I don't know the answer to that.
Writing characters out is easier. Maybe they slide into a world just like Earth Prime. Some of the characters think they're home and stay, some don't believe it and leave. Maybe a character is sick of sliding and loses hope of getting home and decides to stay on a paradise world. Maybe a character falls in love and decides to stay with their new partner instead of sliding with the others. Maybe a character catches a fatal disease and several slides later finds a world with a treatment that can make the condition chronic, but only if they stay and receive the medication regularly. There are quite a few options that don't end in fatality.

It doesn't change their perspective in the way you described it. We still share their frame of reference because the world they lived in was functionally identical to ours. They remain familiar.
The Sliders aren't refugees of the invasion. They didn't see families and friends enslaved. They heard about it from unreliable sources. You could say they should still be affected, but they're not. Two episodes later, in "Common Ground", Quinn and Rembrandt are laughing and happy as they leave Tropics World.

Re: Do we miss Informant? (74 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
The Kromaggs invading Earth Prime doesn't change the characters' perspective. Their memories of home are unchanged. It does alter their motivations. It's not a show about people who want to get home anymore. Same for the new characters. Maggie, Colin, Diana, and Mallory aren't searching for home. They're sliding because that's the name of the show.

Re: Do we miss Informant? (74 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
I don't think that perspective is unique to Americans. People living comfortable lives always see their world as the best of all possible worlds.
It could make an interesting point of conflict for a reboot. Have one slider advocating something like the Star Trek prime directive, that they shouldn't interfere with the natural development of other Earths, while another is dead set on making every Earth more like ours.

Re: Random Thoughts about TV, Film and Media (635 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Even something like Star Trek has the Federation. Actions the characters take can have larger implications than just their ship that came come back to affect them. Sliders basically precludes any sociological impacts like that. Any recurring storylines have to be psychological, affecting individuals rather than institutions.
It might be amusing to have Sliders who don't like each other but are nonetheless stuck sliding together.

10 years ago ISIS was barely extant minor ally of al-Qaeda. Six months later they were a grave threat. "Open Borders" doesn't mean abandoning all border policy. It means we don't require visas. Show your Mexican driver's license for an instant background check and you can enter. The same thing we do for people coming from Canada, or Western Europe, or Japan, or Australia, or any of our other allied nations.
There's no evidence to suggest more people would try to come if we made entry visa-less. The people who want to come are coming anyway.
People are sneaking over because we've made it too difficult and expensive to come legally. We created the problem with laws that only apply to one ethnic group of people.
There are plenty of people here now who don't respect our nation or our laws or our citizens. Look how many we have proudly carrying a flag that represented an outright rebellion against the United States.
It's not our responsibility? Tell Jeff Sessions to put away the Bible he's never read, because the Parable of the Faithful Servant says just the opposite. It says to whom much is given, much is required. President Bush used that quote in his 2007 State of the Union. It's easy to say screw those poor Hispanic people running away from violence, I got mine. But it's not a Christian sentiment and until very recently it wasn't an American sentiment. We didn't turn away the Jews escaping Germany during the depression. What makes things so different now when we have the "greatest economy in the history of America"?

Re: American Politics: Discuss and Debate (3,486 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)
Of course, the solution that the media is pushing people toward is just to let them all go. They're for open borders, which is insane. America cannot have open borders.
We've had it for most of our history. There were no restrictions at all until the 1920's, none on Latin American immigration until the 1960's, and none that really meant anything until the 1980's. Visa-less borders are the norm for nations that are allies, such as the US and Mexico, everywhere else in the world. The Canadian border is visa-less.
There are many reasons why the southern border is patrolled differently than the northern border. We've discussed population numbers, the cultures that they're trying to get away from, criminal interests
Population numbers don't explain why it's patrolled differently. We don't detain people coming from Canada. We could and have catch & release on the Mexican border. Crime doesn't explain why it's patrolled differently, as I pointed out above. The culture's they're trying to get away from? Why would that make a difference? If they're trying to get away from the MS-13s of the world, we should be encouraging that kind of behavior not locking people up for it.

I would love to see a new comic book series with stories that take place in between episodes from all seasons of Sliders. The Acclaim series of comics did this back in the day, but it happened during the Arturo years, so we never got to see any post Arturo comic book stories. Stories about the worlds the show didn’t show (or the ones that only existed in bumpers).
Back to The Future’s comic book series by IDW that has been around since 2015 has been amazingly good. This series tells canon stories that take place either before, during, for after the trilogy. Nearly every story has been beyond amazing. This would work well for Sliders.
The main problem is that it would have limited appeal to people who aren't already Sliders fans. It will be very confusing to newcomers once you start jumping around the timeline; one issue is the original quartet, next one has Maggie & Colin, the one after that has Diana & Mallory.

I'm just saying that the reasons we've been given for policing the southern border differently from the northern one don't hold water.
The illegal immigrants are criminals for crossing the border? Fine, write them a ticket. A fine of at least $50 and not more than $250 for each such entry is the penalty under section 8 of the US code. Detaining people for non-violent misdemeanors is excessive.

The flow across the Canadian border is slower because there are many, many more people south of the US than north of it. Mexico alone as almost four times Canada's population and a substantial percentage of the people trying to cross into the US come from further down in Central and South America.
Unaccompanied minors are a red herring. According to the Chief of the Border Patrol, 0.02% of them are suspected or confirmed to have ties to gangs (meaning 99.8% are not).
https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/meetin … the-threat
MS-13 is also a red herring. Jeff Sessions says they have 10,000 members in the US, which is supposedly a large increase. In 2006, when nobody was talking about illegal immigration or this gang, they had....10,000 members in the US
Sessions says 10k is an increase: https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4666617/sessions-ms-13
2006 FBI estimates MS-13 at 10,000 US members https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/news/ … rrus041906
Crime is a red herring. Crime rates are lower along the border.
