Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has announced it debuts the first 10 episodes on Netflix on October 26. I suspect it will also  be a big hit.

The series was cancelled last month but announced today, due to fan response, a 2 part series finale is coming this November.

This show’s fan following reminds me so much of Sliders’ fans back in the day. Still can’t believe Timeless fans raised enough money to fly a banner over San Diego Comic Con.

I would love to see a new comic book series with stories that take place in between episodes from all seasons of Sliders. The Acclaim series of comics did this back in the day, but it happened during the Arturo years, so we never got to see any post Arturo comic book stories. Stories about the worlds the show didn’t show (or the ones that only existed in bumpers).

Back to The Future’s comic book series by IDW that has been around since 2015 has been amazingly good. This series tells canon stories that take place either before, during, for after the trilogy. Nearly every story has been beyond amazing. This would work well for Sliders.

Also I had a chance to meet Jeffrey Dean Logan at Megacon in Orlando last year, but couldn’t justify the $100. What’s the most you’ve paid to meet anyone from Sliders? (Or anyone in general). Question is open to anyone.

That’s super awesome, Grizzlor! Thanks for sharing!

Anyone here met Lester Barrie? I know his character Diggs was kinda cheesy sometimes, but I always liked seeing him in season 3.

How about Jason Gaffney (Bennish)?

Who from Sliders have you guys all met? Actors, producers, etc., even small guest spots.

I’ve only met Scott Decker (Kryoptus in Dying Fields), back on a trip to Universal Studios Florida in the early 1990s, when he was filming an intro to GamePro PowerUp (using the Back To the Future car). I got to be an extra in that scene!

I never saw a Thirteen Reasons Why. But Everything Sucks isn’t really that depressing. I’m not really sure what it is, since it’s not a comedy, but certainly has a lot of comedic moments. I know several people who refuse to watch TRW, but absolutely love ES.

Do you think he ever gets asked about it? That was a pretty significant part in a signifcaint episode on Sliders. I wonder how often any of the guest actors on Sliders ever get asked about it. Interested in hearing how this goes.

Anyone here seen this show on Netflix? It’s only one 10 episode season and apparently didn’t get renewed for another. I enjoyed it.

This past week’s episode that takes place entirely in the present was excellent. My favorite episode so far, though their time travel rules are a little bizarre.

I wonder if they’ll do an episode taking place in the future at some point?

This show continues to surprise me. The recent episode of Carrie the Musical was kinda bizarre. I’m no fan of musicals, but it was okay. Only 3 episodes left of season 2.

Side note: anyone see the new Mad Magazine volume 2 #1? Has an Archie/Riverdale spoof that’s pretty hilarious.

While Sliders’ hardcore fan base (us) is incredibly small compared to many other properties, Sliders has a lot more of a casual fan base than we give it credit for. Remember, Sliders season 1-3 has been for a while and currently is available on Hulu. The series has been available on iTunes for a long time. Sliders was on Netflix for a long time. Sliders has been available on dvd for a very long time, including several re-issues. Obviously, Sliders has a decent casual fan base and it would beneficial to use the Sliders name and character names in a reboot. I think more people would be interested than a lot of you think.

This is one of my favorites of the latter episodes. It gets Kari and Charlie to play themselves in a ridiculously comical way, which is very different than normal, even for doubles. The scenes with Damon are pretty intense. And there’s a pretty meaningful message with the way some people treat medicine on our own earth.

Episode 1 of season 2 aired two days ago, I watched it yesterday on Hulu. It’s great to see this show back.

*dont read further if haven’t yet seen it, for spoilers*

I don’t know if I just don’t remember or if it’s intentionally vague as to what’s happened to lead up to this point... Why do they each think the other team members are or might be dead?

I did buy a second copy of season 3 a while back for cheap as some of the episodes on my original set don’t play correctly anymore. When I got my original set, like the season 1/2 set, I placed the discs in individual jewel cases. I’m super careful with any disc I have and some of those season 3 discs  still now don’t play correctly. I’d buy a single sided season 3 set in a heartbeat.

They did a re-release of  seasons 1 and 2 individually and without a  “floating”  box, we just need a season 3 single sided release.

I thought they royally messed up doing the season 1/2 set, and figured they can’t make anything worse than that, then I was proven wrong when the double sided discs on top of each other for season 3 set came out!!!

This show  is filmed in Vancouver. I wonder if it has any filming locations in common with Sliders? I haven’t noticed anything that seemed familiar.

25

(35 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

It does seem strange the way they’re handing all the character personalities. This show keeps me entertained and it is full of surprises, but I wonder why Archie Comics has allowed their brand to be this twisted in the show, and so different from the source material, yet strangely faithful in certain other ways.

New episode is up. “Dead Man Sliding”. Another solid podcast episode. The Sliders episode is pretty decent. Quinn’s double is great, JOC did a great job and it is probably one of his best double performances, especially with that accent. Possibly his best.

27

(35 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

That would certainly be an interesting topic. It’s strange how shows like Seinfled or Married With Children, two amazingly popular shows of its time, would not be able to be done today due to being too edgy. Yet shows like Orange Is the New Black, an amazingly popular show today, would never get made 20 years ago since at the time it would be considered too edgy. And then there’s a show like Three’s Company, popular but quite controversial back when it was made, is now an all ages show and quite tame today.

28

(35 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

I think part of it is that it’s a little strange to see the Archie comic characters doing these things, when in the past, they were mostly squeaky clean. The characters in the show are younger than their comic books counterparts (probably so they can stretch the show as long as possible, since it’s being shown in real time-ish as opposed to always the same age [17/18] since 1941).

I don’t think this show is any racier than the original 90210 series, which I think started them as either freshmen or sophomores aback in the early 1990s.

While the first season worked fine as a murder mystery, the Black hood concept was not quite as good, and I kinda wish it had gone in a different direction, what direction, I don’t know, maybe a little more care free and less super serious. It still has a lot of great moments and I’m enjoyong it a lot, as long as I seperate the show from the comics, both are enjoyable despite being vastly different.

The midseason finale was shown this last Wednesday. What does everyone think?

I feel it was kind of anticlimactic, but maybe it’s because it’s a midseason finale rather than a season finale. Still good, though, and looking forward to more.

I hope the Black Hood “character” doesn’t get revisited, it seemed a little too out there for me for this show. The first season’s murder mystery seemed a little more “realistic”.

The show’s popularity continues to grow at an astonishing rate, I’m pretty sure it’ll get at least a 3rd season.

I've been an Apple person most of my life (even before it was "cool" to , before Apple stores and when if you were lucky , a large computer store *might* have a small apple section tucked away in the corner). As far as phones, I have the 6, which I'm  keeping until it dies, since my unlimited data will end when I have to get a new phone. These rumors don't sound so great to me.

I wouldn't expect a headphone jack to come back.

Screen to cover the whole surface? Doesn't sound appealing to me.

Fingerprint scanner doesn't matter much to me, and I don't use Apple Pay anyway.

Price sounds like way too much.... I doubt that's right.

So basically sounds like a lot of money for stuff I don't care about (and the lack of something I do care about, a headphone jack).

I'll definitely be keeping the 6 as long as I can.

Finished!

The teacher was hinted at as being a predator, but in a sort of indirect way. I would have preferred that lesson to be more firmly learned.

As for the finale, I thought it was good, but there were a few beats that felt a bit awkward.

Why would Jughead take the jacket? It didn't feel like something he'd do unless he wanted to go undercover for some reason.

Why wasn't Cheryl hospitalized? If someone I knew tried to drown herself like that, I would call 911 or take her to the hospital, not warm her up and send her on her way. Did these kids not see Thirteen Reasons Why?!

It seemed like the shot of Fred on the ground at the end was added to avoid a "Was Archie shot?" cliffhanger, but I'm not sure why. That cliffhanger was clearly set up and they should have ended with the exterior shot of the diner.

Overall, it's a fun show. I'm already wondering how long it will take for Sabrina the teenage witch to show up.

I'm really not sure what the whole point of the teacher relationship storyline was. I thought it might be a setup for something later, but never heard from again... Weird. Definitely the weakest the part of the show, in my opinion.

Jughead taking the jacket surprised me, too. While Cole as Jughead is certainly a good match as far as looking like the comic book counterpart, and Jughead himself being Archie's friend and being a bit different is also accurate, he's definitely the furthest removed from source material accuracy in all other ways. So he's going to be hard to predict. He seems to be one of, if not the, most popular character in the show on fan sites/social media, though.

Cheryl's actions do seem to be played down more than they would in real life.

The end scene does make for a good cliffhanger, I just hope the show doesn't jump the shark with it.

Sabrina would be awesome! I sure hope so.

In other news, I listened to half of the latest Sliderscast and... did not finish it. It was fine, there was nothing wrong with it.

The last portion of that episode was one of the more interesting conversations I think we've seen on the podcast so far.  Starts at about 1:12:45 mark.  I found it engaging, at least.

I think the problem with that podcast episode is that the Sliders episode they were reviewing was a bad episode. And not bad in a "so bad it'll make an an amazing podcast review episode" way  (like Paradise Lost I'm sure will). I was looking forward to the podcast episode (since I love the podcast series), but found myself struggle to stay focused for the first part as well. I agree, it did get better when the content got better (through no fault of the hosts). I suspect future episodes will be back to being just as entertaining if they get back to a normal schedule again. I can't wait to hear their thoughts on many of the episodes remaining in the series.

So... Anyone happen to know a veterinarian neurologist who would be willing to consult on a mysterious spinal issue for a charitably low price?

One of my dogs went to the vet a little over a week ago. Aside from a skin infection, for which he was given antibiotics, he was fine. He got a normal vaccination and we went home.

Within a couple of days, he was having some trouble standing up on his own. Soon, he couldn't stand or walk at all, without help. He simply has no strength in his hind legs. He isn't totally paralyzed or anything, just... Weak, I guess.
He had been at the vet's office since yesterday. Blood work initially showed some elevated liver numbers of some kind, but they were normal today. An x-ray shows what I've had described to me as either inflammation or collapse of a disk... But my vet really doesn't know what's going on or why. He made some calls, but the better specialists are out of their offices until Monday. Another vet suggested degenerative myleopathy, which I think I've seen in another dog, but that doesn't explain such a sudden onset.

So now he is at the vet for a second night, getting anti-inflammatory medication that doesn't seem to be working. We may have to go to a neurology specialist who can do more scans and possibly surgery, but that will cost a lot of money.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with this information, but this dog has gotten me through some very bad times. I need to fight for him... If someone could just point me in the right direction.

I don't know anyone, unfortunately. I hope you can get it figured out though, it does seem strange. I understand the feeling of wanting to fight for your pet (I did for a cat a few years ago). How old is the dog?

I'll leave it up to SlidersCast to post it -- honestly, it doesn't matter. What's really important is that Jim take good care of himself and regain his health, and if in the course of long term chronic illness, a plug is forgotten or a voicemail is lost, well, it's hardly life or death.

Oh, I totally agree! I'm guessing he probably forgot since it was back in October. I didn't remember until after I first posted and then just decided to scroll above a bit to see what the last posts were about and saw it.

There was no mention of the voicemail ireactions sent. Would be interested in hearing about what he had to say.

Just finished listening to it. Unfortunately, Rules Of the Game is one of my least favorite episodes (it may even be 3rd least favorite after Requiem and Roads Taken). All their talk about how bad the episode is I completely agree with (I don't think this is an episode anyone here is too fond of). It's not even bad in a way that it's fun to bash (I'm really looking forward to them getting to some others since it'll be entertaining), it's just bad. I watched the episode in preparation last week (this is one that I rarely watch). Looking forward to the next few, there's a lot of good entertainment potential for the SlidersCast in season 3.

Also, they talk about the packaging for the newest DVD release (the one where the episodes are in the right order). It sounds like it's an awful package. Sliders has always had some pretty bad luck with DVD packaging, but this sounds like it may be the worst.

What do you think about the volume 1 guest issues drawn by Rich Hedden and Tom McWeeny (34, 38-40)?  They also did a one shot The Maltese Turtle. They were over the top comedy gold in my opinion, and heavily influenced me personally as an artist (even though I never pursued it professionally). They also had a series from Dark Horse called Roachmill and did a few guest stints on Gen 13. I wish they had continued to create funnybooks in that kind of over the top humor, but I guess there's little market for it, as McWeeny ended up doing a lot of inking for Image (no humor style), a lot with DV8.

Mirage TMNT has a bunch of gems, but there is also a lot of crap in there as well. Kinda like Sliders. When it's good, it's damn good. But a lot of Mirage TMNT I just get into a daze as I read them.

As far as volume 4 speicifically, it started out pretty ambitious and was exciting with Laird returning. I usually enjoyed Tales more, much of them were one shot stories and more fun than the drawn out arcs of volume 4.

Just found out about this and was going to post here.

This is a Fox show and the Judgement Game episode was part of season 3 of Sliders, also a Fox show at the time. Sounds like a mighty big coincidence to me.

50

(11 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

I think most of season 4 is worse than most of season 3. Season 3 had zero kromagg interactions while nearly half of season 4 did. Season 4 had Maggie's bad hair dye. Season 3 had Arturo for more than half the season and had Wade for all of it.

I don't think the last episode of season 4 was that bad compared to most of the other episodes that season. The second to last episode, Roads Taken, is probably the worst of the series though (either that or Requiem to me).

While there were some stinkers, season 3 had some pretty good episodes like Murder Most Foul and the Guardian. Season 4 did as well- World Killer and Way Out West. But having the Kromaggs dominate the near majority of the episodes in season 4 make it my least favorite of the series.

51

It was just announced today it's being renewed for a second season! Yay!

Informant, that worries me a bit, too, but it works well so far. There's a huge cast and it seems each episode is focused on particular minor characters for that episode as well as the regulars. And there are a LOT of characters.

World Killer is certainly an excellent episode. I think that's the last time we see Quinn's house?

The few episodes with just Quinn, Remmy and Maggie are good, they had a good mix before Colin entered the series. Maggie is an awful character in season 3, but I like her just as much as the original 4 sliders during seasons 4 and 5 (although her hair color in 4 is awful).

Well, I always wonder how Sliders would've recovered if Torme had successfully reclaimed the series on Sci-Fi.  After watching the end of season 3, would we be happy to get anything featuring the original sliders?  Or would Torme's Season 4 feel a little like Supernatural Seasons 6+ without Kripke...a cheap copy of the original (because of the network shift and the smaller budget, not a different creative staff, but you get my point). I also wonder how Torme would've handled Sci-Fi's meddling.  If Jerry had pulled the same kind of stunts, would John have been able to talk him down?  Would Torme have caved to Jerry's demands?  Allowed him to walk like the Season 5 crew did?

This isn't really a hypothetical. Tormé's Season 4 premiere would have been "Slide Effects": Quinn wakes up to find himself home. Time has been rewound to the Pilot: Wade is working at Doppler Computers, Rembrandt is rebuilding his career, the Professor is teaching and the only person who remembers sliding is Quinn.

The scenario is revealed to be a Kromagg trick; the sliders were abducted shortly after the events of "The Guardian" (or "Murder Most Foul" if Tormé is in an especially good mood when writing this script) and put in a dream state experiment. The sliders escape the simulation, find the timer and slide off to new adventures.

If Tormé had been faced with Jerry's contract expiring before Season 5 was ordered -- well, I don't think Jerry would have left; John would have made Jerry stay. That said, Tormé would have been totally capable of writing Quinn out in six episodes and letting the Professor become the new lead character. I can't see Tormé hiring Charlie as a regular nor can I see John permitting Jerry to make that sort of power play, but I can see Charlie being hired as Jerry's photodouble for distance shots, over the shoulder filming and lighting setups.

In terms of writing, I imagine we would have instantly reverted to the Season 1 playbook: highly comedic episodes of satirical charm with a few horror-oriented episodes thrown into the mix. A KKK episode where the Klan is composed of black people. A world where freedom of the press has been obliterated. Worlds where the South won the Civil War, where McCarthyism never ended -- but the budget would have necessitated certain production measures.

Likely, there would have been less location shooting matched with a return to the Vancouver style approach where rather than standing sets, there'd be a studio space where walls, furniture, props and set dressing could be wheeled in and out to make it whatever indoor or outdoor location was called for in the story.

For outdoor locations, the camera angles would be tighter so that there'd be less visible background around the actors and therefore less money spent on building or dressing the location. It's the approach seen in most Season 5 episodes of FRINGE.

Would Tormé's SLIDERS have ended on a cliffhanger? He had lots of ideas for a series finale. One idea he was keen on was to end the show with the sliders rigging the timer to send themselves backwards through the interdimension, encountering the results of their interference on all the Earths they'd seen, running into old friends and enemies, all in the hope that home would be at the end of the trail.

Tormé left it open for himself to decide when the time came if all the sliders would make it home, if some of them would make it. The one idea he was keen on at the time of our discussion: he liked the idea of Wade, Rembrandt and Arturo making it home without Quinn and then giving up home in order to save Quinn and finding themselves all lost once again, and ending the show with the sliders declaring that so long as they are together, they are home.

My favourite ending is the Mike Truman ending of Earth 317 where it's revealed that every decision causes our sliders to split into a parallel version of themselves, and sliders make it home with the timer still counting down. Quinn says even if they choose to leave, they also choose to stay, and with every choice they make, a new universe is born and a new adventure begins.

Wow, I never heard of or thought about the rigging the timer so they go back to all the worlds they had visited in order to get back to earth prime possibility. That sounds like a great "last season"!

I like season 5 more than 4 for the most part. 5 and even 4 to a degree make better use of history behind why the world's are so different than earth prime. Season 5 almost has a season 1-2 feel. One thing I do like about Sliders is that each season has its own feel and style which makes the series seem a lot bigger than it actually is. Sometimes I think it's hard to believe it's only 87 episodes since so much happens and so much changes during the series. Yeah there's some junk in there like Roads Taken and Requiem, and also some insane concepts like Paradise Lost and The Fire Within, but that's what makes the series more interesting to me.

I was a big fan of the TMNT comics and enjoyed volume 3 when it came out. Im a huge fan of Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon and thought he and his team were a perfect match for the TMNT at the time. Anyone familiar with Savage Dragon knows that Erik likes change (which works very well in SD). Erik had had the TMNT and SD cross over prior to the TMNT volume 3 (which is how I got interested in SD incidentally).

At the time, TMNT's volume 3 comic was really the only TMNT product on the market at all, so that can be attributed to TMNT's volume 3's comic sales being so low (apparently Eastman and/or Laird, the TMNT's creators, were donating their own money to volume 3 to keep the TMNT alive in some form). Remember the TMNT disappeared for quite some time before making their highly successful comeback.

The comics were decent in their own Savage Dragon-y way. But I'm glad it didn't stay that way forever.
