That scene sold the show for me, so funny.

I TRIED watching Agends of SHIELD back when Agent Carter was paired with it.  I just couldn't.  Nothing against it, but it reminded me of how TV was produced 15, 20, 25 years ago.  That's actually a good thing, but 20-something episodes series are REALLY a pain to keep up with, and the story/characters didn't catch me enough.

They're way over 60.  2 Daredevil, Jessica, Cage, Fist, and Punisher would be 78, and then Defenders would be 86.

I finally got through Luke Cage.  60% of it was well done, engaging, but 40% of it was downright awful.  The copy Misty I think was the best character on it.  Better than Jessica Jones, which was unwatchable, but not by much.  Hopefully Iron Fist and then Defenders return to Daredevil levels.  However, I would agree with Info, the lack of storytelling is really amazing.  Stranger Things got it right, in and out in 8 episodes.  Same with The OA, another great show.  10-13 is just too much.

Saw the first couple episodes of Legion, it's all over the place, but I'm getting it and will keep watching.

I'm not even going to discuss the rioting, as no serious political group supports that crap.  However, come on, hatred?  We had people on this thread stating they HATED Hillary!  Obama was HATED by the right.  Tea Partiers had very disgusting signs when they gathered.  It's free speech.  Trump has unilaterally signed orders that a LOT of people don't like.  He is free to do this, but the backlash is there because A) he lost the popular vote and barely won a half dozen states and B) these impact people greatly.  I love it.  This is the most ALIVE democracy and the first amendment has felt in quite a long time.

I do not expect bipartisanship on the drug pricing.  They tried, and hell, our NJ Senators (supposed liberals) voted it down, because that's big business here.  And he'll eventually lose on the wall.   Nobody wants to pay for it.

Now he's important environmental and financial regulations left and right, without any replacement available.  He's trying to do the same with Obamacare, but Congress knows that would cause chaos.

Kelly Anne last night blatantly LIED and made up a terrorist attack that never happened to prove the anti-refugee order.

I really don't care about the Trump pettiness, it's the lying.  Lying and ignoring facts.

Trump is a joke.  He's already LOST his "who pays for the wall" tiff with the President of Mexico, and yesterday didn't have the balls to stand up to the drug companies over prescription drug pricing.  Pretty soon he'll understand why and how Obama was unable to move on many of these issues.  He's a total buffoon, and it's clear his central "team" as expected have no clue what "finesse" is required in that office.  They've done nothing but make gaffes and alienate tons of people, and again, this is less than 2 weeks in.

Even my dog, who by dog standards I will freely admit, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, would have realized the country is highly polarized.  How about I begin with a proposal that will get bipartisan support?  How about we fix our damn infrastructure????  Democrats would have gone along with this, as would Governors and CEO's everywhere.  Instead this moron has freaked or flat pissed off Democrats, Republicans, Governors, CEO's, and whoever else, in just TWO WEEKS!  His scorched earth policy simply will not work.

CBS also has a stronger affiliate network.  Frankly they could air 30 minutes of Info on the toilet reading a comic book, and it would get better ratings than a Fox show winning Emmy's.  It's a flawed system.

Definitely a good one, felt like one of the old cartoons.

Yeah the show goes dark again after tonight.  Something I just found out from a tweet by one of the actors!

Obama executive orders were done so, and implemented, over a period of time so that the government could adjust and educate in a timely manner.  This allowed time to object to them, before implementation.  Trump on the other hand is acting like a dictator, issuing edicts without consultation, that are causing people and government to meltdown.  His approach is a disaster, and nearly everything he does now will be protested and subject to law suits, because he is doing it unilaterally like a strong man.

On immigration, the problem is Trump is picking and choosing.  He absurdly said Syrian Christians were welcome, an outrageous statement, and honestly, how can you prove someone's true religion?  He also conveniently left off Saudi Arabia and Egypt, where Trump has business in, but who have exported several terrorists.  Secondly, we are already vetting, in most cases it takes YEARS to get into the United States, refugee or not, legally.  These people had done their due diligence, and Trump blocked them at the door, really for no good reason.  He has no clue how government operates.  As for best interest, most with experience feel that the ban will ultimately HARM US interests.  Regardless, the vetting process now is about as good as it can be.  To expect POOR refugees to even HAVE cellphones let alone to turn over the contacts and browsing history is pretty hilarious.  Who is this going to catch?  ROFL!  These people are not just dumped onto the street, they are sponsored by relatives, as well as often religious groups, same as probably most Americans' ancestors were years ago.  The vetting is extreme, unlike obtaining a gun, which is a hilariously easy thing to do, and has cost far more lives than "refugee terrorism."  The point though, why couldn't this have been discussed first?

His moves on national security are frankly, frightening.  He placed self-professed LENINIST (aka anarchist) Steve Bannon on the National Security Council, while limiting the participation of the UN Ambassador, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and Director of National Intelligence.  Here again, come the accusations that Trump doesn't give a damn about the facts on the ground OR diplomacy.  Sorry, but this is unbelievably insane shit.

As for Obamacare, the Democrats made a calculation.  Perhaps it was wrong, but the GOP were unwilling to agree to much of anything in healthcare.  They decided that something HAD to be done about the system.  They did it.  Pre-existing conditions, loss of employment, kids aging but without work, and financial ruin from healthcare costs were ALL dealt with.  No the solution wasn't perfect, but here again, Trump's demolish and "rebuild" approach is objected to by even many Republicans.  Governors certainly don't want to blow up the system overnight the way he does.

Once more, the protests, which have been largely peaceful, will continue, because Trump's approach has been so awful.  He won't change of course.  He'll just fire people who tell him to.

They've been jumping around pretty badly, yes.  There doesn't seem to be a great arc to follow either, just characters being angry with each other.  Strange.  Jessica Lucas/Erin Richards continue to have my attention though!

Scott missed one key ingredient though!  THE ICE HAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of who was in charge, the United States has played a major role in causing millions of deaths and refugees in Syria.  Russia probably even more so, with a vicious, probably criminal, bombing campaign.  Do we bore some responsibility for this?  Trump clearly doesn't think so.  Don't forget, he's in favor of the USA defaulting on debt payments, so I doubt he cares about refugees.

We're not even close to discussing the ban and vetting process, in my view.  We're STILL at the point of whether or not the Trump camp have once again overpromised ridiculous overnight decisions?  Implementing plans that are not properly thought through, and will be shredded via legal challenges.  I have said since day one, my biggest issue with Trump was that he has zero respect for the people who work in government, not to mention for the law.  His ego, stubbornness, and ignorance will quickly do him in.

First of all, thanks Matt for getting this online!  I read it, and it was a fun read, shortcomings and all.  I could definitely see it as a full episode.  Obviously a giant improvement over The Other Slide of Darkness, which doesn't say much!  Also some shots on Peckinpah, who's reputation as a horrible producer unchanged.

I think it's an interesting story, but again pretty vapid, basically what we got in S3 time after time.  Went back even further.  John used to complain all the time about how lazy the writing was.

Turnout was pretty bad, but again, Trump is (per polling), very unpopular.  Look I don't think Trump will "get us all killed," and I think Ivanka and Jared roles are being understated.  They'll have a LOT of influence, and both are I'm sure what conservatives would call a RINO.  My main opposition to Trump remains that he will be a daily embarrassment to the office, and to the United States.  If they simply took away his twitter account I think he'd be far more tolerable.  That won't happen.  His ego wont allow.

People will continue to hate on the man and his family, but their service was exemplary, and frankly, despite 8 years of opposition, he still accomplished quite a bit.  Bush did well on a personal level, as did of course Bill and all of their wives.  Trump's wife you'll barely see, she has no interest in the position.

Trump's entire Presidency begins with huge conflicts of interest, of his own, as well as nearly every cabinet member.  He did not pick "the best of the best," he picked people that kissed his derriere the most.  I for see battling both sides in Congress, as well as governors, judges, foreign leaders, the media, and of course, celebrities.  Because that's what the President ought to do with his time, argue with celebrities.  He takes office as the most unpopular figure to do so since polling began.  He's divisive, rude, and a know it all.  His policies supposedly will return jobs to America.  That won't ever succeed.  The jobs people have lost are outdated and gone for good.  The public simply has not and will not support a large sector of manufacturing and service jobs any longer.  Buying habits (online) and technology (automation) have done away with those pieces of the workforce.  And so in that sense, his #1 priority is a failure no matter what he does.

It really depends on whether the director changes.  Most of the ones cited involve different directors, writers, etc.  In some cases, a film went from lower budget to blockbuster (Terminator).  I actually prefer it when sequels involve different production teams, as a new light can be shown on them.  Sometimes that works out very badly.

FWIW, preliminary discussions to happen next week.  I don't think they'll reshoot Ep. 8, but I would expect Leia to have little to no role (like in ep. 7) in 9.

The board of directors do not care, I agree with you, but why make a film that fans will revolt again?

On another note: I thought Terry Farrell was married and living far away from the Hollywood scene these days.

First part no, second part yes.  She lives in Hershey, PA, I believe, but must be long separated or divorced because her dalliance with Nimoy was not a secret.

Firstly the Walker CGI was plain weird, because Paul never really spoke.  And the movie was shot, minus that ending, which was reshot mainly to close his character off from future movies.

Second, they can't use Carrie's image without approval, and while I can see Billie (who might be given a larger role who knows) giving permission for a short CGI, between her and Carrie's friends like Hamill as well as studio heads, to put a large role in with CGI and a voice actor, that's in poor taste.  You're basically saying the actor was irrelevant, which is unfair.  I cannot see how a valid performance could be gleemed off of old audio recordings.  As someone who podcasts and edits spoken audio quite a bit, it's nearly impossible to do that with anything more than short meaningless phrases.  It's one thing if Carrie did audio for say a Star Wars book, but I don't think she did.

The fact Cushing is dead so long I think made it easier, plus his role was not that big.  He spoke what, half dozen times or so?  And he was a character from one film.  Leia is a major character, and it's not like they'll be resurrecting Carrie's 1977 performance/image/voice.  They'd have to also copy her voice, which is not exactly (particularly in old age) the easiest to imitate well.  Also, her family, namely Billie Lourd, would have to sign on, and even then you'd need actors like Mark Hamill to be okay with it.  Lastly, Tarkin was essentially just a repeat of what Cushing did in 1977.  I guess you could "repeat" whatever Carrie's performance is to be in from Episode XIII, but idk, this is really touching on some ethical/artistic grounds that maybe shouldn't be?  You'll be asking a stand in plus a voice actor to perform something truly new, in a new story, and I just don't think that would be right.  I think the audience would hate it.

I saw it during a screening as part of the "Star Trek Mission New York" convention last September.  Loved it, but Leonard Nimoy is one of my idols.  Adam was on hand, and did a panel or two.  I stopped him for a photo ironically while I was waiting in line for his girlfriend, Terry Farrell!  I then mentioned to her that he'd directed some great Sliders episodes, and she was like, "wow, I didn't know that."

https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8359/29406952581_055040721d.jpg

Anyhow, I think Nimoy decided during the 1980s that he was never going to get work outside Spock, so he might as well direct.  He was a great man, and had a passion for Star Trek unlike any other actor.  He was arguably the 2nd most influential figure in Trek production history, after Gene Roddenberry, in terms of where the TOS went.  Brought many ideas from his life and background.

So after idk 5 years on my HDD, I finally binged the full 22 eps of the Supernatural Anime from 2011!  It's essentially an quasi-alternate take on the first season, created in anime style for and by Japan.  Jared voiced all 22, and he was damn good.  Jensen only did the two-part finale, and he was okay, not great.  The previous actor was very good, but it was a different Dean he created.  Obvious ugh was that Bobby Singer was drawn as a bald, shaven, loud mouth New Yorker or something, while John Winchester, was unshaven, also bald, and pretty much a bad ass.  Strange.  The stories are written mainly by the CW SN team, and were all very strong.  Glad I finally got through them.

I would assume the best quality remains the first issue Universal DVDs, which are dirt cheap on Ebay.  Granted they will take up a lot of shelf space, but if you're on this forum, odds are this is a key show for you.

Yeah, fairly devastating news about Carrie.  What's really taken me by surprise is how unbelievably FUNNY this woman was.  I've been watching old interviews, especially the old Jon Favreau show "Dinner for Five."  She was hilarious.  She was also a highly acclaimed writer, both of scripts and novels, and had a big fanbase just for that.  Episode 8 will I guess be cut as they had intended, but I believe she'll have to be written out in Episode 9 fairly early, which was not the plan.

PS: SQ, so the ending of Rogue One was indeed incredible.  So we know there were a lot of reshoots on this film.  What I believe happened was that this ending was the original concept of director Gareth Edwards.  He has kind of admitted he didn't think Disney would allow it, aka, not being a "happy ending."  So he shot it differently.  However, I suspect after the studio saw it, they were convinced to allow him to shoot it the "right way," thankfully.

The media are just the worst of all, that's for sure, which is why I no longer watch ANY political television!  The economy is actually very strong, but the way of the world is automation and robotics, the latter we spend no money on in this country.  It's all over seas technology.  It sucks, but at some point we have to realize that pumping oil is a thing of the past.  Digging for coal is a thing of the past.  We should be investing in renewables much more, because the Chinese will run laps around us while Trump is stacking his cabinet with oil industry billionaires.  Xenophobia was very critical for Trump, just as it is for the right in Europe.  The problem is they blame globalization which is not the cause.  If anything "sharing" the wealth has helped more out of poverty AND kept them in their home countries.  No, what's done it is destabilizing regimes.  Bush, Obama, Clinton, they're all guilty of this.  But they are controlled by the war machine, and good luck to Donald on that account.  Also guilty is his new buddy Vlad Putin, who has destabilized Syria, assisted in a likely genocide there, etc.  Again, I think Trump has the potential to bring believably uneducated policies that can wreak havoc on the economy as well as the environment.   Climate Change, which brought on massive droughts, was the match that lit the Syrian war.  It will happen again, and in more places.  To deny it is simply insane.

I think when the president is Donald Trump, not sure if they can write anything off the wall enough to be considered an "X-file."

Suicide Squad is a good example, because almost immediately word got out that Jared Leto's role was basically evaporated in the editing room.  This angered a lot of prospective movie goers.  Also, I kind of feel "cheated" by these things.  It's one thing to be Ridley Scott, who always seems to have a "director's cut," because I feel like his movies are complete as they are.  In many cases, they are his own edits, not the studio meddling.  Even as good a movie as Rogue One is, you hear about all these reshoots and edits, and wonder what it looked like originally?  Personally I hope we DON'T see those, because I just feel like those weren't the movie.  George Lucas butchered his films multiple times over.

Problem is you lose the international box office, which is often what Hollywood relies on now to make money.

Not for nothing, but if you can't make a good, complete movie in 110 minutes, you failed as director.  Wish someone had control like that over Peter Jackson, it *might* have made his movies watchable.  Snyder had 153 minutes and couldn't do it!  I don't know if I could bear a THREE hour cut!  Ha ha ha.  I suppose I'll have to give it a shot, though I loathe buying blu-ray's.

I saw whatever was on HBO On Demand, which I imagine was theatrical.  Frankly I can't imagine an extended cut making it any better.  I've never watched a "newer" cut that improved anything that much.  I thought Affleck was terrible.  Again, I didn't want this movie.  I wanted a sequel to Man of Steel.  I thoroughly enjoyed Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, etc. in their roles.  I personally DETEST the team up films.  Avengers, Civil War, now this, I think they're all garbage.  You have to trade story and character for action, because you have too many damn big name characters.  X-Men have been enjoyable, but they exist in a separate universe where they have functioned film after film.  I'm looking forward to GOTG 2 and Ant-Man sequel, but not the team up movies they'll appear in.

Firstly, Pelosi is in charge, yes.  The point though was that there was enough of a backlash that it's been suggested this is likely the last go around for her, Hoyer, and Clyburn.  They're all in their 70s anyway, and need to step aside.  As for corruption, I think it's more about the DNC at the highest level.  The entire party is not corrupt, it's just the central core which was stacked with Clinton loyalists.  Wasserman-Shultz should never have been in charge, she was absolutely heinous to then Sen. Obama in the media.  Donna Brazile is another crook, who's on the way out.

Now, as for performance, one thing to remember is that even though Republicans pulled out the Senate, most of those were very close races, which could have gone either way.  There's no doubt, the FBI much with Hillary plus the Russian's hacking the emails had a negative affect on the Dem results.  Similarly, Trump flipped four rust best states with very slim margins of 1 or 2%.  So again, it's not like Trump swayed massive of amounts of people.  He did NOT.  He has no mandate, he was preferred by less of the electorate.

820

(2,611 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

There IS a discussion about the failure, with a fairly strong push to oust Nancy Pelosi as minority leader.  I think some argue that since Hillary had nearly 3 million more votes, it's not that bad.  I of course would argue that my dog could have beaten Donald Trump by 3 million votes.  The Clinton's and their tentacles one would hope are finally gone, but we'll see.  As much as Obama's "Chicago crowd" was labeled as crooked, the man will leave office FREE of scandal, whereas the Clinton's were as slimy as ever.

Now they could treat Trump as the GOP treated Obama, and refuse to support anything the guy wants.  It's worked quite well for Republicans.  Americans really get exactly what they deserve.  They bitch and bitch, but they're too lazy to hold elected officials to account for specific votes or non-votes.

I think confirmation of Rex as Sec of State is gonna be a problem for Trumpy.  I think that guy is way too cozy with Putin, and frankly this Alt-Right affinity for that turd is really stunning.  Not stunning that they feel that way, what's stunning is how little the rest of the country seems to mind.

I watched BvS the other day, it was terrible.  Zack Snyder is awful.  I really enjoyed Man of Steel, so this was a huge letdown.

As for Megan Fox, not a fan of her acting, but she's usually pretty nice to fans, so that's a plus in my book.

She has taken a back seat on TWD, and well could have been written off of it this season.  They wrapped production a couple weeks ago in GA.  I believe an all out slug fest with the Saviors is due by the end of this season.

They cast Soniqua Martin-Green from The Walking Dead.  She's terrific on that show at least.

Problem is the series is supposed to be show week by week, so the 30 day trial wouldn't help unless you waited for the completion.  They've casted 3 leads, namely veteran actors Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, and Michelle Yeoh.  Very strange that the Captain of the vessel doesn't seem to be a lead.

I would figure the sticking point is in fact the number of episodes.  FOX probably can't do much with just 6, but 13 is likely more amenable to their marketing team.  Can't imagine David or Gillian are all that thrilled about doing the show for that length of time though.

Look they had to kind of "reset" the mythos, which they did, to some level of consternation.  That being said, I think they could have moved forward again.  To me this was not really the same show.  Same characters and actors, yes, but it wasn't the same.  I don't think it "injured" the legacy of the original run, not nearly as much as the later seasons or the 2nd movie did.

I would also think that a new team could have come in and picked up the slack.  I assumed that was the plan when they hired Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose.

Michael Moore called it back in like February or March.  He said Hillary would lose those states if she wasn't careful.  The margins were very thin, only 10K in MI, 22K in WI, and 60K in PA.  At the end of the day, the reason is simple.  Clinton failed to get enough people who agreed with her to vote.

Informant wrote:

He was a good politician but the mention of Bill Clinton makes me sick. Much as I dislike Trump, I am so relieved that Bill won't be near the White House again.

I'm sure your sickness is not the same source as mine, but I wholeheartedly agree.  I felt his behavior in 2008's primary towards Obama was flat putrid and shameful.  Even at 70 or 80 or whatever his age is, can't keep it in his pants either.  Trump's behavior was 100 times worse, but Bill took what were 50/50 feelings I had between B.O. and H.C., and soured me on Hillary for life.

I think there are some easy explanations.  First of all, many of SQ's questions probably get answered in some of the off-shoot novels, comics, games, etc that accompanied the film.  I don't bother with those though.  As for the Jedi/Empire, the old Expanded Universe pretty well established that ROTJ was not the end of the Empire.  It continued on, and was still very lethal.  Perhaps it will be fleshed out, but clearly it seems the "New Republic" failed in some fashion that hasn't been discussed.

PS: On Marvel vs. DC fan reactions.....Marvel has never been held to a high standard, because they were an abject disaster for decades prior to Avi Arad's arrival.  DC has history that is constantly being compared to, whether in cinema or on television.  Also I think DC fans are more like Star Trek fans, they are very knowledgeable and picky.

I normally enjoy all the Marvel films first viewing, with absolutely zero interest in rewatching.  Few exceptions Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, and Deadpool below those two.  The rest I'd never watch again, there's no substance there.  Ironically I think Rogue One might wind up having far more intriguing characters, but they are one-off of course.

96% of the audience has not and will not ask those questions of the film.  The film made billions of dollars, and so will the sequels.  JJ tried to recapture the "feeling" the original films gave the audience, and he achieved that pretty well.  I would agree that the people calling for the film to win awards were OUT OF THEIR MINDS!  But it was enjoyable nonetheless, and I look forward to Rogue One and the other films.

Ha ha!  It's possible the deadlines could be extended by a judge...

Honestly I don't know what the end game truly is for Jill Stein, who is not a Democrat.  She also wouldn't guarantee the money she raised would go to recounts.  I think Hillary's involvement was merely to "give it a blessing" or at most provide some legal advice.  Obama does NOT want the recount, they wish to work on the transition with what seems like an ever-bickering, inexperienced, and confusing Trump transition squad.

I think it's a bad precedent, whereby all future elections will have to go through costly recounts.  On the other hand you could argue that the goal is to force the state's to greatly improve their electoral systems in general.  That all said, it's tough to imagine a buffoon who claims millions of dead people have voted against me needs to be worried about an asterix from this process.

The feeling in the cinema when I saw it was quite good.  Perhaps it doesn't have a ton of rewatch, but JJ succeeded when it counted, when I saw it the first time.  I always thought the great wonder of the original trilogy was that things WEREN'T explained.  The prequels seemed to try to do this, and it failed badly.  JJ makes some "dumb movies" but he succeeds in the fun, awe, and excitement of the movie going experience.  One other point to consider is that this is the 1st of a new trilogy, and therefore perhaps we need to see the follow ups to properly judge it as part of a larger story?
