Grizzlor, did you watch the theatrical version or the extended cut?

I think that Megan Fox got a bad reputation for the way she handled herself when Transformers came out. She was cast in sexy roles that focused more on her body than her acting, but acted like she wanted to be taken seriously and was above it all. But whatever. She was young. She is funny on New Girl and seems geek friendly. She might be cool.

You know... Megan Fox really pulled off her role on New Girl. I'm not as horrified by the thought as I might have been at one point.

The question that I have in regards to Sirens is, who will the hero of the movie be? Yeah, Suicide Squad proved that you can have a movie about villains, but you'd think that in this scenario there would have to be a hero for them to face. Batgirl? Black Canary? All of the Birds of Prey? That might be cool, actually.

It probably depends on the filming schedule. The Walking Dead usually films between May and November. Star Trek Discovery is set to premiere in May, but who knows when it will actually happen? Either way, she should have some of Star Trek filmed before The Walking Dead resumed production. And since that is an ensemble show, she may be able to work out a schedule for filming that would allow her to do both. It sounds impossible, but I've seen actors do it before.  Daniel Gillies was a lead on the Canadian series, Saving Hope while also a lead on the CW series, The Originals.

It's not impossible. It could take come cooperation between productions though. It is likely that Sasha will at least have a somewhat reduced role, if she survives.

I think the producers have accepted that the Olicity drama of season 4 was a horrible mistake.

This was the same problem as Mulder and Scully. They have great chemistry and work well together, but they shouldn't be a romantic couple. People think that any man and woman who work well together should be a couple, but it can destroy what works about them. Adding that sexual element removes the safety of that interaction. Now there are expectations and duties and it isn't purely about friendship and trust anymore.

We also went from having a three-person core dynamic to a romantic couple and Diggle.

I'm glad that they realized the mistake and fixed it.

This season is still really good overall... but I hated the midseason finale. It had a lot of the same problems as season 7's Leviathan arc.

Supernatural is at its best when they keep it small and personal. The idea of Lucifer taking over the President sounds great when you throw it out there, but it completely falls apart in the execution. Where do you go with that character? What do you do with him? They don't have Washington DC to film in, so they're stuck in some random location. They don't know how to write the President or his staff, so they fumble around. The prayer scene was completely ridiculous. A President might say a prayer, but to have his entire staff kneel before him (and remember, this is normal, not a Lucifer thing) was absurd.

They didn't want to go too political. They didn't want to go too big and have him nuke Canada or something... Basically, they wanted him to be the President because it sounded cool on paper, but he might as well have been any random guy in a suit when it came to the actual story at hand. He's pretty much just another Dick Roman.

And then they had the regular characters bending over backwards to get to the cliffhanger points, regardless of whether or not it made any sense. Why did Sam and Dean stay behind in the motel when Castiel left? Just so they could get arrested.

Even the scene where the Secret Service guys stop Sam, Dean and Castiel on the street made no sense. On what grounds were they being stopped or arrested? Suspicion of driving a cool car? I know we like to think that the scary men in suits can disappear people whenever they want to, but it's not quite that simple. And the Secret Service guy didn't even seem bothered by any of this. He was acting like one of Crowley's demons in suits.

Angels in suits. Demons in suits. Leviathans in suits. Lucifer in a suit... the show does better when people are wearing jeans.

I like that Lucifer was dealt with. I'm not sure it made sense that they couldn't put him into the cage in his vessel, since Sam ended up there, once upon a time. But whatever. He's gone. Cool. The nephilim idea is cool, but I'm not really up for another quickly aging baby bad guy, so I don't really care if we never hear from that storyline ever again. I'd rather see the anti-Christ make a comeback. Where is that kid?

The one good part of the episode was when Crowley blew up Rowena's boyfriend. Who would have thought that Crowley and Rowena would be the best part of any episode?!

I think that's just how writing works. TV writers create beat sheets, with a scene by scene outline of what they're planning to do, but things happen in the actual writing of the story that can change that plan. When you have the idea, you're looking through a telescope at the world that you're thinking of visiting. You can describe it, but usually just in broad terms. Once you get into actually writing the story, you are living with those characters. You have their exact words, and the exact feeling of the moment. You're on that world, and that's when you figure out how cold it is and whether or not you need a jacket. You can't always know what the story needs until you are inside of it. I think that's pretty normal.

You've read Strange Fall, right? That story started out as satire, commenting on the absurdity of YA vampire romance stories. The idea was simply to have a teenage girl meeting a zombie in the woods and decide to go with it because it's what teenage girls are supposed to do in those stories.
Then I write the first sentence of the story, and every element of that world changed. It was still basically the same idea that I'd seen from a distance, but it looked very different up close. It turned out to be sad and desperate, but hopeful in a way that only revealed itself to me in the writing process.

I don't think you're as bad as you think you are. Some people just don't outline, or don't outline well. I usually don't write out a full outline for my stories, because I find them useless once I actually start writing.

1,092

(759 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

This is why I hate outlines and blurbs. I write novels. It takes me 100,000 words (give or take) to fully convey the story that I want to tell. Then I'm asked to take that story and condense it down into a paragraph that will fit on the back of a book cover. It's madness!

We tend to tell people the landmark ideas that we want to put in there, but not the spirit of the story or how the idea is supposed to feel emotionally. Outlines and blurbs leave out everything that makes us relate to stories.

The Flash is really on the ledge here, at risk of falling into an abyss. The time travel stuff, combined with a lot of speedsters, is getting away from them, I think. It's getting a bit messy. The cliffhanger of Barry seeing Iris die didn't seem as shocking as it seemed... done. We've seen the same idea play out so many times on different shows that it's not all that shocking anymore.

I never got a good look at the newspaper article from the future. Does it still reference Queen Industries?

Arrow... This season is still way better than those two seasons that shall forever be forgotten. But there are still things that bother me. The Artemis turn doesn't make sense. She is mad at Oliver for being a killer, so she turns evil and teams up with a guy that kills innocent people all the time, for no good reason? She is pissed at Oliver, so she puts the entire team in danger? They didn't really sell her turning like that, which made me think that she was just undercover... but they never revealed that she was undercover. So this is just how it is? It makes no sense.

Was I the only one waiting for the shocking reveal that somehow, the long lost son in the photograph was in fact Oliver's new girlfriend?

I like the interaction between Thea and Rene. It's funny how he has this crush on her, and she's totally not interested. It's fun chemistry, but I'm not sure that they should pair them up romantically. Just keep it where it is.
The funny part is, the hard-edged street guy who turns into a vigilante crime fighter is EXACTLY her type, despite what she told him.

Anyone else have a hard time understanding Ragman with his echo-y voice?

So, Donald Trump is Time Magazine's man of the year. Makes sense. The winner of the election is usually chosen for the year they're elected. However, I've looked back through the different covers and I haven't seen commentary like "President of the Divided States of America" printed on the cover.

Let's get something straight... America is "divided" every time there is an election. No matter who wins, people aren't happy. Some think that it will bring about the end of the world. Some threaten to leave the country. This is not unusual. And looking at the map of states and counties that Tump won, the country as a whole doesn't look super divided by him. Certainly, Obama and his handling of racial issues over the past eight years has caused more division than Trump has (especially since he's not even in office yet!). So what we have here is another media outlet creating narrative, rather than reflecting what is actually happening in the world.

It's getting old. And it explains why traditional news outlets are dying off.

On the whole, yes. But taken separately, I don't think The Flash or Arrow were total failures. Legends was weak, but not the worst episode of the show ever.

Maybe not a failure, but an overall D for lack of cohesive storytelling across all three shows. It was one big event and one big story, but they weren't written as one big story. They were written as three separate stories.

You have to respect the different production teams for getting these schedules worked out. A four-way crossover is insane, even if the Supergirl episode didn't really count.

Taken as a whole, the story definitely had its weaknesses and nonsensical moments. The Flash episode was probably the best of them, while Arrow was a nice aside during the story. The way it was all explained in Legends and setting up the Barry drama didn't really work as an explanation, but overall I think it wad a fun event.

It would make the most sense to film the big crossover as the first episodes of each series, giving them a little bit more wiggle room with everyone. Pretty much just film it over the summer. But that wouldn't be the best idea for flow of story arcs if the plan is to show the crossover as a November event.

Man, Netflix has been losing a lot of good shows lately. Fringe, Chuck, Psych... All shows that probably benefit from being on Netflix as much as Netflix benefits from having them.

That's a shame. I guess I will have to go with the free trial.

Netflix? Really? That's cool. I was just going to do a free trial of the CBS thing, but I really don't like CBS shows, so I would never pay.

True. But when you have someone hired to essentially create the vision of a new series, and then the series is delayed, and casting isn't progressing very quickly, and no new news is coming out, then he steps back, and then he says that he's no longer involved at all... it just looks bad. So far, most of what we know about the new series is "Bryan Fuller is connected!" and now that's not true.

So now it's back to other people trying to create a vision for the series, which is basically square one.

We all want a Star Trek series that will be great. The question right now is, are they making the show because they have a great idea, or are they making the show because they've already announced it?

That is a shame, but it makes sense. He is pretty busy, and I get the impression that CBS might not be the easiest company to work with.

I like Amell and Ambrose, but it would be too distracting to have the new leads be clones of Mulder and Scully... unless they are revealed to actually be clones... that might be funny.

I have no problem with them bringing in new characters though. Hell, I didn't mind Doggett and Reyes. I just minded that they insisted on making Mulder and Scully the focus of the show, even after both of those actors had more or less left the series. The writers rejected Doggett and Reyes for no reason.

The Flash is fun. Legends is fun, when it doesn't completely suck. iZombie is fun. No Tomorrow is fun. I don't have anything against fun! I just require that some amount of care be put into the writing and production. The people making Supergirl obviously have more love for Superman than they do for Supergirl.

I did laugh during Supergirl once. I did!

It was when Alex was giving her the speech about how she wanted to make Kara just like her at first, but eventually had to let Kara go and allow her to be her own unique person.

It was a genuinely funny moment on a show about a Superman impersonator. smile

True... Maybe she can be banished to Earth-2 then smile

I just think that her whole show needs a reworking, from the ground up. James, Alex and J'onn need to go. Winn was the best of the bunch, but he may be a casualty of this overhaul if it's done right.

Or she can find a world with alternate versions of some of these people, but they can be reworked.

Maybe they can alter the Dominator transporter technology to create a trans-dimensional tansportation system that would allow easier access to the multiverse. Supergirl, Harry and Jesse could use it to get here more easily, and our team could go to them whenever they wanted.

They could do what Fringe did and create a place that connects all three worlds under one roof...

Or they could set up a Crisis and merge the worlds... but leave most of Kara's behind. I still think she should just be banished to Earth-1.

After watching the crossovers, I was wondering if they should just have the supporting casts float from show to show each week, while following the leads on their own shows... like you'd have Oliver each week, but he could have Cisco and Felicity by his side, while Barry has Caitlin and Diggle, and then the next week, Barry's undercover with Thea or whatever.

Legends would be the only hitch. It doesn't have one lead, so it would be difficult to add them to the mix.

Bart could be interesting, down the line. I just hate that Wally West was wasted. He is a great character when done right.

They really can't kill off Barry and keep Wally. Maybe if Wally had worked out as a character, but it didn't go that way. You'd be taking away a character with charm and chemistry with the rest of the cast, and replacing him with someone bland and lacking in character. I would rather see Jesse take over.

The movie seems to be on shakier ground than the series at this point. Warner Bros better not muck this up.

1,112

(1,683 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

The problem with Wally is that he shouldn't be there. They reworked the character to make him Iris' brother, rather than her nephew. He's Barry's age, rather than being ten years younger. In trying to fit him into the show, they removed the context of Wally West and Kid Flash. The name doesn't make sense. He's not a kid. And having someone who is Barry's age, coming into his powers not all that long after Barry takes away the mentor/student relationship.

Two Flashes can't occupy the same space at the same time. It's Informant's Law of Teledynamics. Unless they kill off this Wally and introduce their younger, red-headed cousin (adopted, I guess) who is also named Wally, it just doesn't work. And that would be a little too "Jimmy Olsen" for me.

Nothing against the actor, but the character just never should have been brought into the show. Especially in season 2. Now they have to find a way to get rid of him, because it can't work.

Anyway, I have to say it again: It's remarkable how different the Supergirl character feels on these shows. Ireactions, you generally like Supergirl as a series. Is it just me that sees this shift in context for her?

1,113

Ugh.

First of all, the Fox network is not Fox News. The normal broadcast network has always been pretty liberal. When was the last time they had a conservative show?

I could see Gilliam Anderson giving up on America since she already lives elsewhere. But it is stupid to shun their job becUse they're throwing an election tantrum. I doubt that is the problem

I think k that the episode count is more likely the problem. But I don't see why they couldn't just focus on Mulder and Scully for eight episodes and a new team for eight episodes. Pass the baton. It's not like Mulder and Scully can do the... y'know... younger stories anymore.

The Flash episode of Invasion was pretty entertaining.

I will start by saying that I was really doubtful about bringing aliens into the Arrowverse. We know how well magic went over, and the aliens are handled so incredibly poorly on Supergirl that is looked like a recipe for disaster. But taken as a total side-story, outside of the actual show plotlines, it was pretty cool to see all of those characters together, handling a 50's style invasion plot.

Supergirl was so much more enjoyable outside of her own show! The foundation of her show and the entire execution is so very wrong, but when you take her out of that world and put her with these other characters... Wow. The difference was remarkable. She really should move to this world. What if she gets banished instead of Mon-El?

Has anyone else noticed how Flashpoint changed Sara from being bisexual to being into girls only, and in a "eyes are up there, pal" kind of way?

Flashpoint really did make a mess. Will they fix it?

Also, all I can see when watch HR now is the magic wand. Thanks, TF smile

But that's the question... if they tried to be a better film, would they be judged more harshly? Is it safer for them to just copy and paste, without trying to explain how or why?

Even as someone who isn't a Star Wars fanatic, I wondered how we went from the Jedi returning to basically square one in The Force Awakens. I kept yelling "Why does the force need to awaken?! I thought the force was already awake!" But I am usually told that I think about these things too much and that I need to just watch the pretty pictures and be quiet. smile

This is a conversation that I have about comic book movies all the time.

The Force Awakens is very much a modern Disney film. No substance, but a lot of flash and bang, and great marketing potential. Same as the Marvel movies. As Grizzlor says, most of the audience won't question anything in the film. They will go in smiling, see some lightsabers, and walk away still smiling. Again, same as the Marvel movies.

Then you have something like the DC movies out there which are genuinely better movies in every way... But they get lower rankings because in trying to be something more, they created an audience that demands perfection. People want Man of Steel to be just like the 1979 Superman movie. They want Star Wars to be just like the original films.

So are the prequels really worse movies than the original trilogy or The Force Awakens? Or are they seen as worse because they weren't hitting the same notes?

I just don't get the whole mindset. If you just want to relive the originals, why not just rewatched the originals? Why spend so much money on new material that mimics the original films? Maybe George Lucas was onto something when he kept recutting and re-releaseing the original films.

I'm not a big Star Wars guy. I've mostly remained quiet on this one because fans seemed to like it and I didn't see a need to attack something that they enjoyed. But I really didn't see why they liked this movie. Much like the Star Trek movies that Abrams made, The Force Awakens was mish-mash of plot elements from the older movies, with not much new material added. They didn't try to explain the hows and whys. They didn't try to develop characters. They bet on being able to get away with a lot of crap, as long as they had enough nostalgia. I guess the bet paid off. But I don't see why someone would feel a need to watch this movie over the original trilogy. If anything, this movie just damages the original trilogy by attempting to reset the story.

If it works for the fans, I'm happy for them. I do have to wonder how long the template will work though. The Star Wars universe is about to be more saturated than its ever been, with new movies being released one after another for years to come. Can Disney's Marvel road map work for Star Wars?

(3,520 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

That's interesting. It's like 1984, where the recorded history is altered and everyone goes on remembering it the new way, without anyone ever mentioning the original history ever again. smile

I just think this is funny. A short while back, Donald Trump said that he wouldn't promise to just accept the election results and he would have to look at the situation when it happened. He was torn to shreds. People said that it was un-American, immature, just another example of why he shouldn't be elected... and of course, it was an example of what would make Hillary so great. Remember when they were trying to say that a democrat has never challenged an election before or refused to accept the results? (it was a lie, but they still said it)

This high road mentality was when they thought they would win.

Flash forward a few weeks and those same people are demanding a recount and refusing to accept the results of the election. Not because they actually stand a chance of winning, but because they want to show that they're fighters and all that.

I feel like I should get some popcorn or cotton candy if I'm going to be forced to watch this circus perform.

I watched the first one... First of all, I really liked that Lorelai has the same problem with Marvel movies as I do.

The episode was fun and interesting at times. It was like a dozen episodes packed into one movie. Weird, but interesting. I was hoping that they would make Rory less awful as a human being, but she still seems pretty bad. I hope she grows and changes over the course of this year.

Emily was pretty spot-on with Lorelai as well, when she was yelling at her about how she always had to make everything revolve around her. That was always the problem with the character, and what caused Rory to turn out so rotten. The interesting part is that someone within the show realizes it and calls her on it. Usually, the writers think they're so clever and their characters are the best things ever, and they don't even see how bad they are (the Buffy characters who kicked Buffy out of the house, despite her being the only one making an attempt to pay for the roof over their heads).

The characters are really annoying and sometimes just plain bad human beings, but the thing that makes it interesting for me is that the writers seem aware of this.

It was weird that there was so much time covered. Emily won't talk to Lorelai, but then things have moved past that point. Time has passed within the story, but it hasn't been that long for the viewers. It's like the story wants to be a TV series again, but has to settle for being four movies instead.

Watching it reminded me of a debate that I was having with myself about my imaginary Supergirl series. I was wondering if she absolutely needed a villain to fight each week, or if the show could just be about this person with a strange background and amazing abilities who sometimes fights evil, but is also just a person. Can you have a a Supergirl show that's about exploring character, rather than fighting bad guys? Or would that be rejected because a superhero show must have action each week and if you didn't do that with Supergirl it would look like you were being sexist by turning her into a Gilmore Girl?

Sorry Grizzlor. I didn't see your post until this morning. I wasn't ignoring you. I'm just replying slowly. smile

It's a weird comment, but I kinda agree with your last comment. The problem is that politics and celebrity have been combined. Now, you have Presidents acting like Hollywood elites (it didn't start with Obama... oddly enough, it didn't start with Reagan either). We shouldn't be looking at politicians in that light. We should be looking at them under the harsh light of an interrogation room, under constant scrutiny, not inviting them to film a Carpool Karaoke segment (I know, that was Michelle, not Barack. But the comment still stands).

The sad thing is that far too many people get their news from comedians and twitter these days. This makes people really, really stupid. I've seen people who seem to think that Trump is already in office, and it makes me want to slam my head into a wall. Grown adults shouldn't need the dumbed down, coloring book version of the news.

As for your other comments, I obviously agree that he needs a competent cabinet. I'm not a big Rudy Giuliani fan either. Right now, I'm just in a holding pattern. We're already jumping off this cliff and there's no going back (sorry to anyone who donated to that recount... it's a waste of money). I'm just going to do what I did with Obama last time. Close my eyes, wait for the impact and try to address the wounds as best I can once they happen.

Not really ancient. A lot of the democratic politicians of today came up in that era. We're not talking about the Civil War here.

Look, there are plenty of bad people who support both sides. We could spend all day going back and forth, finding the worst people in the world and seeing which party they support. It might be an interesting conversation, but using it as a broad stroke against someone doesn't really work. If the implication is that the conservatives are racist and therefore attract racists, it's just not based in reality. The fact is that whatever white supremacists exist today are a tiny percentage of the population. They're a fringe group so small that they only get media attention when that media is looking for the slimiest headline they can get their hands on.

When have Republicans ever been a party of racism? They weren't the ones forming the KKK. They weren't the ones who were fighting against equal rights. They weren't the ones supporting the eugenics movement. You say that all of this is ancient history, so what does the present look like to you now? How big of an issue do you truly and honestly believe the white supremacist movement to be in the Republican party? Because I know a lot of people, with a lot of political beliefs, and the white supremacist thing has never really been an issue with anyone I've ever met.

1,124

(3,520 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

That's another weird thing... White supremicists have much more history with the Democrats, yet they're always talked about as though they're a Republican problem. Historically, Republicans are the ones who have fought harder for equal rights.

Though at this point, there probably aren't enough white supremicists around to matter anymore.

Supergirl --

Got bored. Thought about the upcoming crossover and figured that maybe the show would be better if I watched a few episodes really close together.

It didn't. It's just so bad. It's like they took scripts from other Superman shows and movies, and put them into a machine that now randomly generates Supergirl scripts. And it's so needlessly bad. It could have been so good!

The show is a lot like the Lois and Clark type of tv writing. It's fun when it's some silly show from the early 90's that I can enjoy because TV really didn't do much better back then. But times have changed. There is no reason for this show to be as bad as it is. There's no reason to be playing the Lex/Clark/Lionel dynamic with Lena/Kara/Brenda Strong. There's no reason to have Kara walking around in the DEO in her Kara clothes, or in an alien bar in her Kara clothes. There's no reason why they should have an alien bar, and aliens walking around on the street with blue skin, and yet act as though Kara is something special because she's an alien (this is the mistake they made with Angel, and it's still a mistake here).

An this "Alex is a lesbian!" story is so tired and played out, and has no place taking up so much screen time on a show like this. If they'd just had her start kissing that other woman, I don't think anyone would have even cared. It's not like the character was super well developed in the first place.

It's frustrating to me, because the show doesn't need to be bad. It really doesn't. I just don't think the writers care about it enough to take it seriously, so they're just mimicking what other writers have done in the past.

Not exactly my point of view, but it is a really good take on the situation.

On a somewhat similar note, I'm finding this whole post-election display fascinating. You have people and celebrities going on about a civil war, or how Trump supporters need to die, but that venom isn't being reported very widely. Nor are the incidents of anti-Trump people beating Trump supporters in the streets.

Then you have people saying that Trump is to blame for all of the recent racism and hatred, but it doesn't make sense. One person on Facebook was like "One day into President Trump"... But we aren't a day into President Trump. He won't be sworn in for two more months. There has been a spike in hate crimes (a rather vague and broad classification), but the election period statistics haven't been factored in yet, so they have nothing to do with Trump.

Then we have a sudden surge of reports of racist actions by people who all appear to be wearing "Make America Great Again" hats... I don't think I've ever even seen one of those hats being worn by normal people in public, so isn't it weird that all of these incidents involve people wearing a hat that makes it easy to identify them as Trump supporters?

I don't know. A lot of this doesn't make sense. In terms of Presidential blame, Bush and Trump seem to be overlapping. It's like Obama never happened. In a couple of years, they'll be saying that Trump caused a spike in racial tension, despite the fact that it happened before he was elected (similar to the way people forget that the economy started to suffer under Clinton). And the failure of Obamacare will probably be chalked up to Trump not giving it a chance. I don't get how the actual President is walking away from years of racial tension building up on his watch, and he is sparkling clean in the media as people riot in the streets... Again.

I'm just having a difficult time understanding the flow of the narrative that's going on. If it were written as a story, I'd tell the author that they need to work on it because it's just not making sense.

Star Trek does work better as a series, but I think the problem with the recent movies was Abrams. He shouldn't have been allowed near the franchise, because it became obvious that he just wasn't a Trekkie. Of all the producer/directors they had to choose from, why pick the one who really just wanted to make Star Wars movies?

I think the franchise could have a lot of life left in it, but it needs to be done correctly. And TV makes more sense for it.

They should retire Star Wars. smile

I agree that Samantha is doing a great job. She fit into the show seamlessly, in a way that hasn't really happened, maybe since Jody was introduced. I hope they keep her around, even if she's not on all the time.

However they're writing it, I'm liking it. The great thing about Gotham is that they took away the character that always grabs the spotlight. Without Batman, all of these other great characters get to shine. Even Bruce, who will eventually be consumed by Batman, is just Bruce here. I don't see it as a prequel or anything like that. I'm just viewing it as what it is, which is a great, insane series with cool characters doing insane things.

Penguin... I don't care if he's gay. I'd be more surprised if any of these characters were mentally capable of caring for any other human life.

It was a weird choice to bring on Isabella, only to kill her off so quickly. It's weird, but in a way that fits there series. Still, it'd be funny if the actress pops up again, as another character. smile

Nice to hear him say it, and of course I agree with him. Fortunately, I think the show has been much better this year. I actually like the new recruits more than the Roy, Thea, Laurel team. Mostly because Oliver is leading them and not taking a vote whenever a decision needs to be made.

There are many issues that need to be dealt with. Not all Presidents will pick one topic to care about and let everything else go wild. Terrorism is an issue. Illegal immigration is an issue. Healthcare is an issue. Education is an issue.

We're gonna have to walk and chew gum at the same time here.

The fact is that we have a group of people who have declared war on not just America, but anyone who isn't like them. They will kill as many people as they can, in the hopes of wiping all of us off of the face of the Earth. You don't shrug and do nothing about that. Ignoring cancer doesn't make it go away.

And sorry, but your line about the odds of me being killed on my own property would have been a lot more convincing if a stray bullet from terrorist attack couldn't have conceivably done me in a few months back. Climate change didn't show up in my neighborhood with a bunch of guns, planning to mow down as many people as they could. Terrorists did.

I fail to see the logic in not acknowledging the threat that we can see with our own eyes all the time. You want to talk climate change? Great. We can do that if you want. We can discuss gun violence. We can discuss the economy. We can discuss healthcare. We can discuss alien invaders from the planet Fritolay if it comes to it. But why ignore something so blatantly obvious the people who have the will and the increasing ability to kill us?

I didn't expect either one to get full seasons. Frequency's arc revolved around the 13 episode order (that's the timeline for when her mother is supposed to be taken/killed). No Tomorrow is good, but they needed to make room for other shows.

Of the two, No Tomorrow is probably the better show. But I'll just be happy to get iZombie back eventually..

Terrorism is still a pretty real threat, both in the US and around the world. I don't see how you can downplay that fact. Yes, cyber security is a major issue that needs to be addressed, but unfortunately, it's not either/or. We have to deal with both. One of those terrorist attacks was right down the street from where I live. It's hard to ignore the threat when you have helicopters circling your home for a week and the police blowing up backpacks while you're trying to watch TV.

Climate change... Honestly, I think it's a stretch to call anyone treasonous over it. It isn't an issue that I'm super invested in. And I would go into more detail, but it's hard to go on long-winded rants about corruption and science when I'm typing with my thumbs. ☺

What terrifies you about the GOP, exactly? Maybe we can work through those issues and help you come to a better understanding that you may disagree with, but which doesn't fill you with fear.

Now, that isn't to say that the GOP is great. I think most of, or possibly all of the politicians are corrupt in one way or another. They should be under our microscope and held accountable. The people of the country are supposed to be one of the safety measures in place to keep the government in check, but the people have gotten lazy and usually done care.

Still, fear isn't good. Maybe we can work on that.

Do you have any evidence that he is a white nationalist? I've seen the accusations, but no actual evidence.

I have read comments from people who know the man, both in the form of articles online and just from comments on Facebook and they all pretty much say the same thing... The guy may be an opportunist and kind of an asshole, but he isn't an anti-Semite or a white nationalist.

There is a lot of anger and many bruised egos right now, especially in the media which all but called this election for Hillary as soon as Obama's last campaign ended. They are saying a lot of things, and not all of them are based in truth.

I fully expect Trump to piss me off and do many stupid things. I don't need to freak out over fake stuff when the real stuff will come along soon enough.

At the end of the day, I don't think that Trump will blow up the world. We have a whole system in place to stop that from happening (though Obama got around the system often enough). The economy sucks, race relations are at a low point in my lifetime, the healthcare system is a trainwreck, we have terrorist attacks on our soil every couple of months it seems, our military has been weakened... The system in place now is not working in any way. I'm not as scared of what Trump will do as I was of what would happen if we stayed on our current path.

Open borders do not make us safe. Sanctuary cities do not make us safe. A president who tells federal agents to stop enforcing the law doesn't make us safe. A president who feeds a culture of divisiveness and hatred... We already have one of those, and it is leading to violence, and bloodshed. I hope that Trump can do something to make that better, but I honestly don't think he could put us on a road to make it worse unless he goes full-in Nazi, which seems unlikely.

There is a lot of exaggeration going on, which is making people .ore scared than they should be. If anything, I expect Trump to step back from his campaign positions and lean toward the center. He was a liberal for quite a long time. I don't trust him, I don't like him... But I'm going to wait and see what he actually does before I flip out. There's always a slim chance that he won't suck. And if he does suck, we're just back to where we started before he came along.

Obama is a horrible President, not to mention a racist, hateful person. We survived him. We've survived other bad Presidents. We should be wary of any politician, some more than others, but just sit back and hope for the best until that's no longer an option. Then take it one day at a time. I'd save the actual fear for the next episode of Supergirl.

Okay, I'm taking a deep breath and trying to suppress my gag reflex here, but I'm going to defend Trump... In a way.

The media is playing up the notion that we just voted for Hitler. He hates black people, Hispanic people, women, gays, Muslims... And it's bullshit. There is plenty, PLENTY, to not like about the man. We don't need to go making things up. He says that he wants to enforce immigration laws (as pretty much every country does) and this is turned into "He hates Mexicans!"
He wants to stop bringing in refugees from countries with ties to terrorism until we can be sure of who is getting in (many countries have had issues with these refugees causing disruptions) and that is turned into "He hates Muslims!"

The fact is, we live in a real world with grown-up issues to deal with. I've talked with Border Patrol agents who have first hand stories about the people who come across the border illegally, and the frustration of not being able to do the job that they were hired to do. It isn't racism. It is common sense... Distorted through the lens of a man with no verbal filters, who tends to exaggerate everything he says. And it has nothing to do with him hating immigrants either. People conflate legal and illegal immigration, but they're not the same thing. Not many people oppose normal, legal immigration.

He is not a white supremicist. Saying that he is one doesn't move the conversation to a rational and sensible place. Obama has more ties to racial extremism than Trump does.

The people protesting and burning things are scared of the Boogeyman, because that is what he is to them. They probably don't know his actual position on issues (and really, who does when he's been known to change them), or his actual words. They just know the venom that's been spewed by journalists, professors and the President himself. The truth about Trump is still not exactly good news for us, but he isn't going to be throwing chains back on black people or take away voting rights from women. Yes, these are actual claims that I've seen. Based on nothing but campfire stories, which have grown-ass adults hiding under their beds.

I remember when Obama was elected, saying to someone that I hoped I was wrong about him. That it didn't benefit anyone if I was right and he was as bad as I thought he would be. I was disappointed, and probably angry to some degree, but I was never ashamed of being American, I never called for his assassination, I never would have cheered as people burned him in effigy (which I remember happening with Bush, but I don't recall seeing it with Obama). And since he took office, I judge him based on what he has done.

Unfortunately, I still think he was horrible for this country and I wouldn't really want to spend an evening at dinner with the man. But even if I wanted him out of office (and I will cheer when he is), I never wanted to see him dead. I just didn't want to see him anymore at all.

We all know that Trump wasn't my first choice. I'm not exactly celebrating the idea of him in office. But I genuinely hope that he does the job well. We don't win if he proves me right by being a bad choice.

Here endeth the rambling.

I have to say, the rioting and hatred and burning figures of Trump in effigy is really stupid. These same people who claim to be about unity and love and peace are turning into the ugliest, most hateful people on the internet. It isn't even about reality or politics, it is an epic tantrum, being thrown by a generation of spoiled brats who have never had interact with anyone who was truly different from them. They think this made them inclusive, but the truth is that they've all just been shielded by anyone who thought or believed differently.

I'm not talking about everyone who supported Hillary. There are some normal people who did that for some reason. I'm just talking about the fools who throw a riot every time the world doesn't work the way they want it to.

And they have the nerve to accuse everyone else of being hateful, racist, homophobic, etc. while beating people in the streets because they voted for the wrong guy.

I'm all for expressing frustration. Hell, I'd even be for a full blown uprising if the situation called for it. It's built into the Constitution for a reason. But this is just an epic childish tantrum.

These days, sweeps is big, but the "winter finale" is also a very hyped event for a lot of series.
