It's the late 90's, I'm 14 years old, this show "Sliders" randomly appears on TV on a Friday night around 8:30pm.  I was always in a great mood on a Friday night because I hated school.  I vividly recall the scene from the pilot with the traffic lights, and being amazed at how uncanny that must be from his perspective.

The CGI effects were really awesome and cutting edge back then, the portal effect was very special to see.  It was almost like a whole separate reason to be interested in the show, just to see the special effects.   Of course, the stories and characters fell into place perfectly.  Every episode was a new adventure in a new world, the possibilities were endless.  I think it was the perfect show for me at the time.  Everything I could have wanted in a show, at the perfect time on a Friday night.

This also gets me thinking about scheduling and how it plays a role in the viewing experience.  Certain shows seem to lend themselves to certain time slots.  I'm starting to think that even the commerical breaks play a not insignificant role.  After all, these shows were written for ad breaks - the story plays out in segments.  Sometimes it's nice to take a 3 minute breather between segments to refresh your mind, context switch to the real world, then back to the fantasy world again.

Very good point about TV scheduling. There was something magical about the TV era, that is missing from the physical media/streaming era. Watching a show, that you really liked and having to wait a week, was almost like a special event in those days, now you can binge watch a whole series in a few days.

I really disliked the Garvey "death hotel" stuff and Nora walking out on Garvey just seemed very strange to me, I found her reason for leaving rather dumb. Other than that, season 2 has been much more intriguing, am up to the final of S2 atm.

Gave The Leftovers another crack and well into season 2 atm. Definitely has improved over season one.
I can see what you mean about Jamison being the spiritual successor to John Locke, the very same thought occurred to me as I was watching it. Also getting a lot of Twin Peaks vibes as well with Garvey´s sleep-walking which I know Lindelof was a huge fan of. I feel though that its still quite a bit different to LOST in that, the mysterious event that occurred seems to be the primary influence for the majority characters and if not explained in a satisfactory way might end up affecting my liking for the show whereas LOST was really a hangout show in disguise.

If I continue with it, I´ll definitely watch it through. I am not the type to skip a story because it "gets better".
Good point about LOST with regards to the mysteries. The mysteries were always secondary to me too.  Its the reason, I have been able to watch the show 4 or 5 times in its entirety and will revisit it every 3-5 years. Some people tried to get me into Manifest because of the similarities with LOST but I found myself bored because even though the premise was somewhat interesting/mysterious, the characters/actors need to resonate with me which they didn´t. Even the bad characters in LOST, are still somewhat memorable. I watched the pilot episode of Manifest and literally did not remember any of the characters names afterwards.

I *love* LOST.  I know that people don't like the ending or whatever, but I think it's great.  I was a hardcore viewer from the very beginning (I read an article about it in the newspaper prior to its premiere) and loved it to the very end.  I watched the finale in a theatre and definitely got emotional at the ending.  I think it has the most well-rounded characters of any TV show ever, and it's my favorite show ever (not the best but my favorite).

Do all the mysteries get wrapped up, and do all the mysteries that get wrapped up feel earned?  Not necessarily.  But really the mysteries of the island stopped mattering to me once I fell in love with the characters.  Finding out what happened to Jack/Kate/Sawyer/etc was much more important to me than finding out why the Island was special.  Lindelof gets a lot of crap for the puzzle box stuff, but I love his work.  If it had all been a dream or the Island was in a snow globe or any of that, I would've been just as happy with the show.

Yeah very much the same reason, I got hooked on the show. They really hit lightning in a bottle with that cast. I wasn´t one of those hardcore fans from the very beginning though, I missed a few episodes in the first season and found myself disinterested. I ended up later giving it another shot via torrent sites and getting hooked that way. I think its probably my favourite show too.

I agree Lindelof copped a bit of unfair flack although I really hated the flash sideways stuff and thus S6 was very weak for me as a whole, not necessarily, the end though. Speaking of Lindelof, did you ever see The Leftovers? I started watching season 1 but wasn´t that drawn in by the characters, but I keep hearing a lot of good things about it so I will probably persist with it.

Did any of you Sliders fans watch LOST? If so, thoughts? If not why not?

I get to it whenever I can, a lot of times I don't feel up for it due to my health. Here's a link for how it's done:

Any interest in doing one? We could do the first two seasons since they are the best and maybe a select few from S3. Maybe one episode a week. I think it might be fun to watch as a group and discuss each episode. Im new to the board so sorry if this has been done recently.

Does anyone know when the pilot and the rest of Season 1 was filmed? Thanks.

I didn´t mind it despite it being an obvious Species rip-off. Yeah its nothing like anything in season one or two but I found it a lot more entertaining than most of the garbage in season 3, I guess that isn´t saying much though.

I remember seeing your name on IMDB, thanks for the reply.

I´d be on board with JOC playing Quinn again if they brought closure to the original characters, Im not particularly interested in seeing a completely new reboot of Sliders with a new cast.

It was not a criticism of JOC. I was merely making a point that the likelihood of a reboot has probably been overstated.

Thanks for the reply. Admittedly, I have not seen much of Jerry´s work, post-Sliders besides Jerry Maguire and Can´t Hardly Wait. Not exactly huge roles.

Do you do minifigure moc sets apart from brickheads? This is very cool btw. You have some tremendous talent.

Luck of the draw. Post-traumatic slide syndrome. In Dino veritas.

I guess Jerry has given up hope of a Sliders reboot.

Since I am new here, I thought I would post a little about myself as an icebreaker and give others the opportunity to share their history with the show. I have posted on the old IMDB forums and current Moviechat boards but there doesn´t seem to be much traffic on the Sliders board so I went looking for a Sliders forum and found this place was relatively active.

I watched the show when it originally aired as a young teen and was fascinated by the premise but I was never a die hard fan, it was very hit and miss, and especially once they got to season 3 as I´m sure many of you are aware.
In the early 2000s, while home from college, I managed to see a re-run of "Luck of the Draw" on cable and thought it was a great episode. In the late 2000s, a housemate I was living with had the DVDs so I watched a couple and realised how much I enjoyed the show so I ended up buying them. Every couple of years, I seem to revisit them, as I am now but I´m always disappointed in not having anyone to discuss the show with so here I am. smile
