The Buffy news stings, as I was really looking forward to that. 

Firefly I saw, it's cool.  I think one issue is that it's likely to be very low budget, and probably wind up looking like that Supernatural anime, which may be aesthetically good but lacking.  i.e. the best animated shows are the ones where something actually happens on screen.  I felt this was evident with X-Men '97, which featured so many more still shots than the original series had.  And the original was hand drawn.

Overall, I really don't know if either property is ever truly what it was without Joss.  He might have been a tyrant at times, but these were HIS brainchildren.

Unfortunately, the one library in my library system that still had a sliders season 1/2 dvd seemed to get rid of it this year.  I had checked it out one or twice last year just out of support.  End of an era!

I assume it got scratched or damaged. That's a shame!

Also a shame about STARGATE and Martin Gero seeing another sci-fi project fail.

It also sounds like there was a new HEROES revival pitch (ECLIPSED) being shopped around by Tim Kring that didn't sell, although in this case, we may breathe a sigh of relief that this specific show stayed off the air.

“A reboot pitch already exists — but Universal holds the rights

O’Connell then revealed that a reboot idea is already floating around, courtesy of Superstore star and comedy writer Colton Dunn.

“My good friend Colton Dunn — incredible actor and writer — has come up with a great premise,” O’Connell said. “There is, like, a question of getting rights to it. I believe Universal has the rights.”

The actor then joked about why he can’t just buy the rights himself: “I personally can’t afford the rights because I’m going through something right now. My credit — not the best. I went through one foreclosure and my credit is, like, gone. So I personally can’t get the rights. But Sliders is on Tubi. Let’s go.”

The rights-buying idea is indeed very silly; they would not be for sale because even unused, the IP has value to NBCUniversal by inflating the corporation's on-paper value (along with all their other copyrights, used or not) if seeking buyers or mergers. And yet... while Jerry and his wife are worth $20 million, he has alluded to some career struggles as of late. In April 2024 on the Still Here Hollywood podcast, Jerry said, "Currently, I'm in an acting downturn," explaining why he had taken a talk show job.
