Episode 2 was pretty good as well. Show packs a lot into a single episode both times so far. Looking forward to seeing where it all goes. Enjoying it for what it is rather than nitpicking everything that isn't classic Archie (which is quite a lot).

Any other Sliders fans here also fans of Archie comics and/or the new Riverdale show, which is based on the comics? I've been an Archie fan almost my whole life, and it is cool to see a show (other than animated) with the characters. The show is on Netflix (each episode the day after its show on on CW) if you're interested in seeing it.

Discontinue reading if you don't want spoilers-

My thoughts on episode 1, which aired last night...

I enjoyed it. It's more of the dark side of the characters (which is interesting since the characters are generally very squeaky clean throughout their history). I generally like the humor portions/versions of the comics (especially the older dan DeCarlo/Harry Lucey/Sam Schwartz/ Bob Montana versions), but this is nice being different. Some of the characters are spot on with their looks and personalities, others are changed... Like why does Archie's parents have to be separated?

All the actors and actresses did a great job, lots of energy.

My biggest issue with the show is the Ms Grundy character, which is completely different from her comic book version... Everything else I'm ok with, at least for now.

I'm able to separate the show from the comics and other mediums of the characters in the past. I look at this show as just another alternate reality for the characters, and will look forward to each new episode. I hope it does well. I do think this show is significantly better (at least so far) than the reboot comics that Archie has out out over the last year or so.

Watched the first 6 episodes today. Definitely some time travel logic plot holes mentioned earlier in this thread, but pretty entertaining otherwise, I'm enjoying it.

Speaking of Predator, did anyone here read the Archie Vs Predator comic books? As a longtime Archie comics fan, that 4 issue mini series was really good. Even if you're not an Archie fan, I definitely recommend it. Dark Horse published it. I'd love to see that made into a movie.

Funny, right after I posted a friend posted on Facebook about the Purge movies and I definitely agree with him that Purge: Anarachy (#2) was the best of the 3. I did enjoy all of them though. But 2 should've been the original movie.

And to the original poster- I preferred Dark Knight over Batman Begins

As far as movies where I prefer a sequel-

Hot Shots Part Deux (I like the first but Part Deux is near perfect spoof)

Scary Movie 3 (I like the original better than 2 but 3 is the best)

Back To the Future Part II (most super fans of the IP like part 2 the best due to the most amount of time travel and the "future" act).

Naked Gun 33 1/3 (even better than the first, but 2 1/2 is by far the worst of the 3)

I still think it's semi amazing, even with the volume of subscribers they have, that they can license so many big name shows and movies (I'd bet even Sliders isn't cheap), in addition to all the original content they've been doing.

It's a shame that the two missing episodes are two of the best ones. Harder to generate interest in the show in my opinion.

Last Days is in my top 3 episodes. Might even be #2.

I read on the Slideheads Facebook group that Sliders will be leaving Netflix on January 1st. I'm sure most of us have (or should have) the DVD set(s). It's still nice to be able to use Netflix to put on an episode (except the 2 missing ones, of course) without getting up to actually put a DVD in.

Maggie certainly did come a long way and was a very enjoyable character by season 5, even season 4. Sometimes by season 5, it's hard to believe that she wasn't an original character.

I just saw him in episode 1 of season 2 of Scream Queens.

*spoiler*

It was a flashback scene, so I doubt it'll be a recurring role (or if it is, seldom).

Anyone else here fans of that show?

Enjoyed the new episode! Was great to hear them at it again. Perfectly timed for me, was taking a long flight, so I downloaded it beforehand and listened on the flight. I agreed a lot more wth Jim on this episode. Although they never really go into why the world was low on resources, it certainly has that feel that this is a world struggling without them, but making the best of it. I get the impression they did have a good amount of resources at some point- otherwise things like planes and cars would've never been invented in the first place.

Can't wait to hear more! This'll be some entertaining SlidersCast episodes when the crazier Sliders episodes arrive for review!

How did it become acceptable for a full season to be 13 episodes rather than 22? 13 used to be considered a half season back in the Sliders days.

Do they ever actually state in the show that it's 1994? I know that was the original intention, but I don't know if they ever actually said the year (I could be wrong).

Sliders certainly is tough to recommend. I've recommended it a bunch of times, only been taken up on it a few as far as I know. Netflix is missing 2 of the best episodes in season 1 (and Last Days is one of the best episodes of the series, in my opinion), which doesn't help a new viewer since they're not seeing 2 really good episodes. Most of us saw the series weekly as it came out (with an entire year break), not knowing how dark and different the series would become later (I always continued to have hope the original 4 would somehow get back together). I wonder if binge watching for the first time one would have those feelings now.

I think Sliders had a lot of "jump the shark" possible moments:

move to LA at start of season 3

after The Guardian: Torme being in charge changes to Peckinpaugh

When Arturo is replaced with Maggie

When Wade is removed

When Colin is added

Season 5: Quinn is replaced by his fraternal double

I think season 4 is the weakest. There are more good stories in 5 than 4. Almost everything Kromagg in 4 & 5 other than Way Out West I don't care for as much as non Kromagg episodes.

Yeah a lot of season 3 episodes are outrageous but at least Arturo is in the majority of them and Wade is in all of them.

Sliders has been on Netflix for a long time, it must be popular enough on that platform for them to continue to provide it. Maybe Netflix would see the value in producing one for Netlfix, considering so many people must be watching it there.

This has all been a very interesting read. Thank you for all the thoughtful responses/comments.

I loved SlidersCast, and actually check their site just about every day hoping a new episode is up. I've tried the Rewatch Podcast and just couldn't get it or as much as SlidersCast. I was really looking forward to their takes on seasons 3-5. I've posted on their fb page about new episodes a bunch of months ago, was told they'd be coming, but nothing yet.

Please come back, SlidersCast!

I guess I just never thought it was too over the top, even for Sliders. A lot of shows were doing far worse than what was shown with Maggie  in the Breeder, in my opinion.

88

(28 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

Yes.

89

(28 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

Why is there all this hate for the Breeder? Is it simply because Maggie spends a lot of time in skimpy clothing?

While far from my favorite episode in the series, I think it's decent. It's got an interesting back story with its organ "donor" system, has good conflict with the Sliders over where Maggie fits in with the group, an interesting conflict beeeen Remmy and Quinn and where they both came from before sliding took over their lives, has a fun scene with Diggs, and even has a Back To the Future 4 reference.

I'm not saying this episode is up there with Post Traumatic Slide Sydrome or anything, and it does seem a little over the top for Sliders with the sexy Maggie scenes, but I think it's a decent episode overall.

Only 1 F- The Fire Within.  Probably only Roads Taken and Requiem would also get an F if I rated the other seasons. A lot of not so great episodes, but some that are enjoyable to watch, even if just for the ridiculousness. Some of them get a higher grade due to certain scenes or characters- Diggs' role would bump up most episodes with him in it.

Was fun, would do this for other seasons too.

I think it's just the production order that puts "Stoker" earlier. There is no reason "Stoker" needs to be seen before "Dinoslide," but there's also no reason see "Stoker" or "Dinoslide" at all. *shudders*

Oh ok.

I actually like Stoker. Good cast with 2 That 70s Show actors. Some decent alternate history (love the Joplin reference). Yeah it's got some "what the" moments, but it's entertaining. Decent use of Rickman in a small part.

Dinoslide is ok, I think it's important in the continuity of season 3, but is relatively boring in my opinion.

I do watch Stoker regularly during personal random Sliders episode viewings, Dinoslide not so much.

KerrAvon wrote:

I just can't see watching the show in the "proper order". Sure it's annoying seeing "Summer Of Love" not air after the Pilot but I prefer to have the DVD's in the order that I first saw the episodes in back in the Nineties.
I can barely accept "Invasion" as the season 2 finale (as it was intended) but to me "As Time Goes By" will always be the Season 2 finale.
The glaring problems with the airing order are most evident in the first two seasons.
"Double Cross" should have been Season 3 premiere but I can accept it where it is as Episode 2.

the rest of Season 3 just does not matter.  "Stoker" was aired before "This Slide of Paradise" though "Dinoslide" was intended in that spot and actually makes more logical sense but I'm okay with how this turned out.

and of course there's the screw up involving that episode where Wade falls into the center of the earth and gets chased by circus freaks.

I always suggest that to new viewer who's never seen the show watch Summer of Love after the 2 hour pilot.  After that, they can watch the episodes in the order they are presented on DVD/Netflix/etc. (it makes it simpler than giving them a crazy order (crazy compared to what it's always presented on DVD/Netflix/etc).

I also agree that As Time Goes By is a great episode as the season 2 ending.

So Stoker should air before Dinoslide? I don't recall hearing this before. What is the reason Stoker should air first? Of the 4 Neil Dickson episodes, I never thought that these 2 episodes mattered in the order of airing, as long as they were the 2 middle episodes.

I'm close to buying another DVD case for the upcoming set. If you take a look at the recent release of Mad About You from Mill Creek it doesn't bode well: https://www.amazon.com/review/reviews-l … B01CIS85YE

Are you suggesting that blu-rays are possibly on their way out? I never bought a blu-ray player of any kind (so never any blu-ray discs either). I figured, even if dvd's become obsolete for blu ray, they can still be played on a blu-ray player.

Hmm, that dvd case doesn't look very promising if they use a similar style. I store my seasons 1-3 Sliders discs in jewel cases due to the poor packaging design. If I would have to for the new series, that's certainly a major reason not to get them.

ireactions wrote:

These discs are a chance for a home video release to finally get it right with dual layer discs to avoid overcompression, episodes in the correct order, no missing episodes and without packaging so poorly designed that the only sensible response is to return it to NBCUniversal through their front window attached to a brick.

NBCUniversal should be ashamed of the DVD release they put out -- if they can't even put the episodes in the right order, why release it at all?

Are you referring to the complete series packaging, or the individual releases? I never got or even saw in person the complete series (with its price tag and lack of incentive to get, I didn't pay too much attention). The original releases were horrid (except season 4). Seasons 1&2 packaging with the floating discs in stirafoam for $80ish was awful- and when I thought it wouldn't get worse - double sided discs in a package where disc overlap for season 3. 4 was just right but 5 could've been better- putting Remmy as the main picture instead of Mallory on the cover, and having release dates for the episodes and an animated menu would've been nice.

What was the original complete series packaging like?

I think it's great that the show continues to make money and have a market for continued re releases. I own the original releases of each season (as I'm sure most of "us" do). The re release of seasons 1&2 were interesting but unnecessary to me (although I'd love for the "normal" packaging those have. I would definitely buy a re release of season 3 of it was released on single sided discs (I was hoping those would come after the re release of 1&2).
The 2014 complete series had no appeal to me other than single sided discs on season 3, but at that price, it wasn't an option.
This new release is a much better price, correct order, and includes single sided discs for season 3, but no other extras I don't already have (which is why I'm hoping for the Making of season 4 special to be included - and anything else I don't know about that hasn't been released). While I'd love to save some space and get a complete series for Sliders (which includes the original boxes and 10 jewel cases for my seasons 1-3 discs, since the original boxes are unacceptable to keep discs in), I'd probably keep the boxes for 1-3 anyway to always be reminded how laughably horrible those boxes were (also season's 5 awful cover art with Mallory as the star and both Remmy and Maggie taking a back seat).

Yes that one!

What are the chances the "making of season 4" special will be included? My VHS tape of that off sci fi channel from its first airing is in mighty bad shape.

Anyone think our society is headed in this direction? This is a strong episode, even more so today than when it debuted.

Invasion was good as a one shot, or if it had taken the Kromaggs concept differently later in the series. The issue with Invasion is that if that episode didn't exist, seasons 4 and 5 could've been much different, Kromagg-less.

Definitely don't agree with a lot of them. Requiem should be dead last.

With yesterday being May the 4th, the generally accepted Star Wars Day, I was thinking that Sliders has no (that I know of) designated day. Back To the Future has November 5th, Bill & Ted have June 9, Star Wars has May 4, but nothing for Sliders. I thought we should designate a Sliders Day...

What date though? Some possibilities I thought of-

March 22 (date the pilot first aired)

September 27 (date of the first slide by Quinn and the rest of the original 4 sliders)

September 24 (Quinn perfects the timer)

September 25 (Quinn's basketball is the first object returned after a slide thanks to the timer).

Any other suggestions? Of the ones listed, I think I like September 27 the best.

IDW would probably be the best comic book company to have do a Sliders comic. They are currently publishing the Back To the Future comic which, as a BTTF fan, is absolutely amazing.
The stories are excellent , the art is great, and it's published on time. BTTF is also owned by Universal.

IDW has done work with other licensed properties as well- Transformers and X - Files, for example. Sliders would be a perfect fit.

IDW also has a big reprint line- maybe they can acquire the rights to reprint the Acclaim books and then take it from there....

Don't remember exactly how I found it, probably on a search for something about the show. Lurked for a few years, reading all the back posts (this was 3 or so boards ago, which seemed to have lasted a long time). The site has crashed and been relaunched at least twice since I joined, shame all those old posts and topics are gone. I definitely learned a lot.

New episode is up! It's a "special episode", where they review "Parallels". Good to hear them back.

Pretty good, considering they literally picked a random episode. One guy never saw any other episode, not even the pilot and gave a decent review considering.

They both seemed very surprised that Wade is a female named Wade. When I hear "Wade" I always think female. I really barely know the name Wade outside of Sliders. Is it really a typical male name?

Thanks for the share. I'm going to look through it later.

Just read this from a link on the Slideheads Facebook page. Decent interview. Let's hope the reboot talk becomes a reality. Good to hear he's willing. If Jerry is an active participant, any Sliders reboot will be at least mildly successful.

Back To the Future: Animated Series was on that list until it was finally released on DVD this past October.

I was thinking the same.

What are your favorite works outside of Sliders done by the 8 main actors?

Off the top of my head:

Jerry O'Connell- Scream 2 (I'm a big fan of the Scream series)

Kari Wuhrer- Hitcher II (she's named Maggie in that movie, it's almost like it's an alternate version of her)

Throw in the creators, too:

Robert K Weiss- Naked Gun 33 1/3 (love those movies)

I guess I really only have favorite non-Sliders stuff from those 3.... I think I need to finally see Indiana Jones, can't believe I really haven't seen anything else from JRD.... I guess I'm looking for suggestions on non-Sliders stuff for Lloyd, JRD, Charlie O, Floyd, Locke and Torme....

Today is the 21st anniversary of the first episode of Sliders!

Unless there's any new material not released on the original DVD sets, I doubt I'd buy a new DVD release (I don't have a blu ray player at all), other than a season 3 with single sided discs.

For a show that everyone seems to think is forgotten, it sure has a lot of life in it on streaming licenses and DVD releases.

Even though the shows are in a mostly different genre (Sliders does have comedic elements), Boy Meets World and Full House come from a similar time period as Sliders, and have been recently given sequel tv shows. They seem to be met with decent success. I was never a huge fan of BMW or FH, but did watch them from time to time. I haven't watched GMW, but did catch some of Fuller House. I have to admit, it was cool to see almost everyone from the show back again. In other ways, it felt more like just a novelty that would wear off and would always just be compared to the original show and never live up to it.

That got me thinking to Sliders of course, and wondering if I really would want a sequel show (one that takes place in the present, using all or most of the original cast, just like the other shows mentioned above). In some ways, of course! In other ways, no. Given the choice, I probably would rather see a reboot of the series or a spinoff with cameos by original cast (like the American Pie DVD movies). I'd still be okay with a tv movie sequel featuring "our" Sliders and what happened to them, but probably not a continuing show. Of course, I'd still watch it anyway.

20 years ago our show returned for a second season. And our crew actually makes it home to earth prime!
