I don't think networks would be against a Sliders reboot. Sliders had a decent share of popularity during its original run, and continues to make Universal money even today- it's popular enough (outside of us) to warrant the entire series being released on DVD, both as individual seasons and later as a complete series, also had the first 2 season re-released on DVD, and enjoys continued licenses on Netlfix, Hulu and Amazon streaming.

Regarding sliding in and out each episode, I actually prefer it that way. I did enjoy the few episodes that had multiple worlds in one episodes (in addition to bumper worlds), but to have multiple episodes dedicated to one world, I'd rather not have that. Exodus is 2 episodes, and that was a bit drawn out for me. The episodes are an hour anyway, that enough time on an earth for me. I like only needing to dedicate one episode to watching a full story.

Great! Looking forward to reading them soon! Thanks!

Just listened to Young and the Relentless.

Glad to hear that they're back! Good review- 2 different views on the episode. I do agree that the logistics of the world are far fetched and not really possible by any means, but other than that I do like the concept and enjoy this episode a lot. It also has one of my favorite quotes of the series where Arturo tells a young man who tell him it's past his bedtime to "hurry home and cuddle up with Teddy". For some reason, that line always makes me laugh. There's a lot going on in this episode and it's a fun episode.

I hope season 3 reviews start quickly, love listening to these guys.

I just noticed a new episode is up! Can't wait to list to this tomorrow!

Those 2 episodes are still missing, out of curiosity I looked yesterday.

I was watching season 2, episode 19 of "Young and Hungry" on Netflix earlier today, and Sophia was wearing a t-shirt with the words "Soul Spin" in the Sliders font on the front of the shirt.

While thinking about this randomly earlier today, I realized that some other main/recurring characters also had odd names- Angus Rickman and Oberon Geiger - the 2 recurring villains (other than the kromaggs) are both very unusual names.... I would mention Kolitar (the Kromagg, not the Care Bear), but I give him a pass as a Kromagg.

132

(12 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

Good topic with the names. Never really thought about it that all 4 of their names are pretty uncommon. I do have to say that because of Sliders, whenever I meet a male Logan or female Quinn, it seems odd.

I don't disagree necessarily with any of which you just said, but I suspect that many of these devices had planned payoffs later in the series had it been picked up. If Sliders' pilot was produced and nothing picked up afterwards, many of the same things could be said about that.

The building and countdown do seem rather convenient, especially the building part. The 36 hours was probably purposely done by whoever designed it, I'd guess. I'd certainly be interested in watching this series of it were to get picked up. Yeah it's not Sliders but it certainly has potential.

Sometimes I think one of Sliders' strengths for me is that it did change so much in such a short period of time. Sure I like the older episodes more in general. But the show kept changing and re-inventing itself (although not always for the better, usually not for the better actually) which kept it fresh and each section of the series has its own unique feel. It's almost like Sliders is like 7 different shows in one. Do I want to watch Dust? Ok. Then do I want to watch Last Days? Sure. Do I want to watch This Slide Of Paradise? Ok. It's like 3 completely different shows, but somehow related. I think if we had 88 episodes that were all like Fever and Last Days in feel, it would've been boring and monotonous after a while. Don't get me wrong, i would've done things a lot differently for the series to keep it closer to seasons 1/2 in certain ways. But Sliders changes in 5 seasons more than any other series would need about 50 to change as much.

I've only been a member here (including the previous versions of the board) for around 2 years or so, but found the (2 versions ago) board maybe 4-5 years ago and read everything on it, which contained many years of posts and discussions. As I read through everything Sliders related, I did notice TemporalFlux's name was quite common as a poster, and remembered that I had a conversation or two with someone with that name on AOL back in the late 90s or possibly early '00s. I remember talking with him about Sliders and BTTF and him being very excited about a replica timer he wanted to make. I guess he either found me since I had a picture of me with a Sliders poster at Universal on my AOL hometown page  or because I mentioned on interests on my aol profile. For whatever reason, I never found (or looked for) any Sliders boards until fairly recent (5 years ago), so I never got connected with any fans. I only talked to him once or twice on AIM, but he was on my buddy list for a long time- might still be! As far as I knew, he and I were the only Sliders fans out there. I doubt he remembers talking to me on AIM 15 years or so ago, but inthoughtbitnwas cool he wanted to create his own timer replica. In the days of eBay and etsy and everything now, that doesn't seem like a huge thing anymore, but back then, to me he was the biggest Sliders fan possible, even more than me!

Side note- I don't recall how or why I came across this board (previous versions), but I'm glad I did.

March 1995- my sister had seen a commercial for it and suggested that it looked like something I'd like (I was and still is very much into Back To the Future). Watched the first episode and enjoyed it from the very beginning! When it left Fox and switched to Sci-Fi, we actually got cable just for Sliders (well, it was the turning point anyway!).

I thought the same about the phones, I just figure the movie actually takes place about 5 years ago.... Was there anything in the movie that suggested it's 2014? I can't recall any offhand.

It's been a great day. Universal did fake advertisements for hoverboards and for Jaws 19. (The latter is particularly hilarious.) My FB news feed has been lit up with news stories, commentaries and analyses of the films, observations from friends, comments from people at various marathons, etc.

In short, it's everything that a fan could have possibly wanted. It's as terrific as the 50th anniversary celebration for Doctor Who in 2013. Sliders didn't get its chance this year, but maybe in 2025, the series will finally get its due.

What did Calvin Klein do?

I love Part II the most, also. It has the most complex time travel story, all the cool things from the "future" (sad I have to put that in quotes now that it's past the day). It also includes some of the best scenes from the first movie as a bonus.

I'm as much of a BTTF fan as I am a Sliders fan (favorite movie and favorite show). I've found that most BTTF fans enjoy Part II most, while most casual fans/moviegoers enjoy the first most.

Maybe it's just me -- but I fail to see how missing episodes on Hulu and Netflix could truly prevent any of us from watching them anyway. I mean, we're SLIDERS fans, for God's sake. We may as well have invented the Internet when it comes to TV shows.

(I'm using various qualifiers in case Temporal Flux sweeps in and has exact and precise information that makes me wrong.)

I completely agree. If you've found this page, you GOT to have them all on DVD (and if not all, definitely the first few seasons - which is where these episodes fall)!

It would be interesting if they're missing only due to some overlooked error that no ones ever pointed out. I remember those episodes used to be grayed out but in recent times they're simple not there at all.

I have all the DVDs and only watch them on Netflix if it's on a whim and don't want to get up to put a DVD in. More often I'd like to admit actually lol

They're back! Episode 26 is up!

Episode is "Greatfellas". I'll admit, its been a while since I've watched this one... might watch it tomorrow.

I love how Dan correctly predicts that the listeners won't hear it until September.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to comment (mostly because I haven't watched it in forever). Nevertheless, it was great to hear a new episode. Very much looking forward to Young and the Relentless, which is definitely in my top 10 episodes.

I saw it in the theater and enjoyed it.

Just watched Time lapse this evening on Netflix, its fairly recent, says from 2014. Very good movie, the type I think most Sliders fan will enjoy. Also, I didn't realize this until the credits, but John Rhys-Davies has a VERY small role in the movie. I definitely recommend for all of you here... Anyone else seen it yet? I just noticed it on Netflix for the first time yesterday.

From comic books it has to be Powerhouse from "The Savage Dragon" (Image).

All media: probably Biff Tannen from the Back To the Future series

As far as Sliders goes, maybe Arturo from "Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome" or Kolitar from "Slidecage"/"Way Out West".

I would love a full "Tight Pants" from Kari Wuhrer, as well.

The picture of "The Shop" I mentioned above is posted on the Slideheads Facebook page if you want to see it.

So what's the history of this font? Did it exist before Sliders?

There's store called "The Shop" that I saw at the Sawgrass Mall in Florida which uses the font. I have no idea how to post a picture of it here though.

I agree.

I would have to say that out of all the changes made throughout the series (mostly seasons 3-5), the fact that Quinn is not from our earth at all, and showing that earth prime is not "our" world (since we haven't been invaded by Kromaggs), is probably the worst. You're right, it disconnects us from the sliders. While I'm ok with Maggie trailing along (since she obviously isn't from our earth and never claimed to be in the series), the season 4 change in Genesis was the biggest game changer (even more than the cast changes and even the merging of the Quinns). To me, that change is the "jump the shark" moment in Sliders.

As many of you know, I actually watch Sliders very regularly, an episode every week or so. I kinda bounce around on the episodes though... But recently (basically 2015) I've been watching a lot of original cast episodes, keeping up with SlidersCast and started with the Sliders Rewatch. I always defend seasons 3.5 to the end, because even though the original cast is not in tact, there are some good episodes, great ideas, and a lot of great scenes, even with the "new" sliding teams. Just the other day, however, I watched Way Out West (which I claim as my second favorite episode of the series), and going from watching most of season 1-3.5 episodes to that was almost a shock. It was still enjoyable, but something was missing.

So, yes, I still believe Sliders with any cast would still be enjoyable since I love the *concept* of sliding, and everything that goes along with that. However, a new show would *have* to have a good, hand picked cast that would work together, as much as the original cast did for this series.

How old do you think Maggie is supposed to be? I imagine Quinn as 25ish, but Maggie I always thought of as as early 30s or maybe even older. Rembrandt probably early to mid 40s and Arturo late 40s to mid 50s. Wade as early-mid 20s. Diana as early to mid 30s, same as Maggie. And is Colin supposed to be older or younger than Quinn? (Either way for Colin, he's around the same age as Quinn.)

I'm from New York originally, and also a amusement/theme park enthusiast. The boardwalk in Seaside Heights, New Jersey (the one where the roller coaster "Star Jet" fell into the ocean during Sandy) has been recovering. Casino Pier, which is the park that owned that coaster, reopened the following summer with only a few rides (including some that survived the storm). I got to visit that year. They've been adding every year, and are getting to close to the size they were before the storm.

Funtown Pier, also located in Seaside Heights and further down the boardwalk, actually suffered more damage, never reopened, and that site is still vacant. A tragic fire occurred about a year after Sandy, destroying a carousel (and some other places). Independent merchants and restaurants along the boardwalk have mostly if not all reopened, or simply never reopened/were replaced. Most of the physical boardwalk was rebuilt after the storm. It's crazy how much damage occurred, but many businesses were rebuilt.

I would love to participate in the Rewatch activity, but not being on Twitter, I feel disconnected. I do watch Sliders episodes pretty regularly, and usually watch the episodes as the SlidersCast reviews them (which usually gets me in the mood for another episode or two)...

I think a new Sliders show would do well. Sure, there are only a handful of fanatics like us, but the show would do well, as it did back in the '90s. Most people I know today who were old enough remember the show and have seen it. I think many would give it another shot. It's got an easy to understand premise, and could be a lot of fun.

Parallels was very good, and I'd love that to get made into a series, but Sliders is better and simpler. And more believable. More believable because it's easier to be a secret (other than wormhole openings). A giant abandoned building on every earth? Wouldn't that attract some attention?

My order would be:

1) team 1 (of course)
2) team 3
3) team 2
4) team 4
5) team 5

I choose 3 over 2 because of the Maggie/Wade friction. Plus Maggie wasn't like able at all during that period.
I'd almost choose team 5 over 4, but I'd still rather have Quinn there, even though it means Colin is there. Mallory is still my least favorite character throughout the series though.

170

(6 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

If you had to rate the different sliding teams from the series, in what order would you rank them? There were 5 different teams throughout the series:

Team 1: seasons 1-2, beginning of 3- Quinn, Wade, Arturo, Rembrandt

Team 2: end of season 3- Quinn, Wade, Maggie, Rembrandt

Team 3: beginning of season 4- Quinn, Maggie, Rembrandt

Team 4: end of season 4- Quinn, Maggie, Rembrandt, Colin

Team 5: season 5- Rembrandt, Maggie, Mallory, Diana

Keep in mind this is ranking the teams themselves- them as a team
And their personalities during that time. Not a ranking of the stories being told or the sets the scenes take place in.

171

(31 replies, posted in Sliders Bboard)

As much as I'd love for there to be a true continuation of the series, a reboot is the only shot at it being successful.

I'd be fine with a reboot, and there being nods to the original that wouldn't distract a new viewer but would be a reward for us long time fans.

I read the interview earlier today. It's pretty darn good, enjoyed reading the whole thing. Seems like a good guy. Good actor. Hated his character on the show, but he was good. I have to admit two of the best moments on the show were his reactions to his girlfriend having multiple husbands and the other episode where he found out his girl was a famous transvestite. Classic!

Would love to see interviews like this for the other 7 Sliders too! :-) and some other recurring  characters like Lester Barrie. Shouldn't be too hard right ? :-)

Thanks again for posting this on earthprime. Really awesome.

Is Next World over really Sliders related (without any spoilers)?

Ireactions, you should definitely read it. If you dislike the episode it's right up your alley. I don't hate the episode but realize it's a ridiculous premise, and enjoy the book a lot because of it.
