I usually will not watch later seasons of a show until I have seen the preceding ones but I broke my own rule with Supernatural last week.

I'm totally lost to be honest. I'm glad of a return to making a difference little by little though. Saving people should be a good 50% of what being a Hunter should be about anyway.

Huh? Jerry O'Connel kind of looks like Jeff Bridges now. Weird.

I always wondered about Sole Survivors.

The Episode came way before the Movie 28 Days Later which is kind of funny.

It is the only Season 3 Ep that inspired a Movie Homage/Copy as opposed to most Season 3 Eps being Copies of Movies. smile

I agree with ireactions on a lot of points made here. The Zombies did have something of a Scientific origin/plausable explanation and the Episode as a one off despite it's flaws is not that bad.

But when taken as one of many GRIM Eps in Season 3? Yes.... Very Tiresome and dispiriting.

I have issues with nBSG 2003 and Stargate: Universe for the same reasons.
Some Grim... Fine, ok but all the damn time? NO!

Life is Grim Enough thank you.

Give me Wonder, Adventure, Comradery and Humour!

Rant over.... Sorry heh. smile

As to Stoker.... Ugh! A mess.

Sliders dabbling in the Supernatural and Magical is Fine if Done well via followinf
g the old adage of any sufficiently understood Magic is Science.

Sole Survivor Zombies: Biotech gone Wrong.
Telepaths in that Ep about the Oracle: A different branch of Scientific Study and possibly Alternate Biology or Evolution.
Into the Mystic Magic and Sourcery: Technology like Holograms etc.

Stoker Vampires though.... No. Just NO!

Saw the first two eps yesterday. It was good... So far anyway.

The news of a Single Season and a potentially poor ending has me a little worried though I must admit.

Been watching "The Last Man on Earth" but for some reason the last 2 episodes of S1 were not on this week.

I like it.... But in a guilty pleasure kind of way.

Only other thing I'm watching is Californication. Not seen it before so curious if it lives up to the hype.

I see where you are coming from. Still... Puppets ala Farscape and CGI are both cheaper and capable of more than back in the 90's so even TV or Web Mini Serial type programmes could in theory pull it off.

Planet of the Apes huh?
A valid concern. If it's a homage though as opposed to a blatant rip like Dr Moreau or the Species rip off eps?

Have to be so careful not to get into lazy copy territory and instead dabble and play with ideas that share themes or better yet place a new spin or flavour on things.

A new Species whether Evolutionary or Artificially formed like said Elephant would maybe have differing drives, psychological outlooks and Social Structures which could have an impact on Architecture, Urban Planning, Resource Management and Logistics etc.

Of course their Size and Shape would more obviously do the same.

Humans are more Omnivourous with a Carnivourous slant whereas Elephants potentially Ombivourous would have a Herbivourous slant which would hint at more developed Agriculture, More Spaced out Towns and Cities and potentially more developed Canal Networks.

I have to say though... The humble Crow itself may make another interesting candidate for Alt Evolution or Tweaking given how smart they are.

Another interesting option is the Larger Striped Pacific Octopus which interestingly has uncommon Paired Mating Practices and Social Development unlike most other Octopus Species who are more geared to Isolation and even indulge in Cannibalism of their Mate.

Check out this Link

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 … 151220.htm

An interesting look at an Octopus based Sapient Evolution is explored in this Link

http://www.alternatehistory.com/discuss … t=octopans

It is in the format of a Story/Timeline. It's not based on the Larger Pacific Striped Octopus but it is a fun read anyway.

For the most part I would agree the Human Element is important both to relate to but also as a very rich source of Divergences.

Earth existing and Life being present I agree are also prerequisites but a World without Sapient Life or a World with a differing Dominant Sapient Species would also make good episodes as Worlds which stand apart from the glut of Human Civ based AU's.

Invasion did a nice job of dabbling with an alternate species controlled Earth but as you say Humanoid Biped is not required or even likely potentially.
It's a shame the other Kromagg Eps I hear about defiled a fun idea and good one off episode.

Elephants with a dew evolutionary differences could make an interesting Rival Sapient. Just imagine an Elephant with a Bifurcated Trunk. Two manipulator appendages is interesting.

Equally though you could make an episode revolving around a GM Uplifted Sapient Elephant Sub Species.

A far superior premise to explore Genetic Manipulation than Canons OTL Island of Dr Moreau rip off I'm sure you would agree?

I've been thinking some more on this.

There are Categories that could come in handy to streamline Creation of Alternate Universes.

1. Natural Events.
This can be anything from The Earths Orbital Path around the Sun, The Polarity of the Magnetic Poles eg North and South flipping, Continental Shapes and Drift, Sea Level, Volcanic Activity, Weather Patterns, Atmospheric Composition, Meterological Activity, Solar Flares, Extinction Events etc.

2. Biological Events.
Evolutionary Paths differentiating from our baseline regarding Flora and Fauna.
This can have interelations to Number 1 Natural Events and vice versa as Plant Composition and development impacts Atmosphwric Composition, Water Filtration, Erosion, Formation of deposits of Oil and Gas, Pollination and Dissemination etc and Enviromental Circumstances drive Evolution down differing paths.
Also Instinctual behaviour, Sapience, Survival Mechanisms vary based on the above.

1 & 2 could also be classified as Organic and Non Organic Natural Events.

3. Willful Divergences/Sapient Choices.
This Category is based on Artificial Divergences caused by Sapient Life.
This can include Effects on the World, Nature and Recorded History of Cultures and Nations.
1 & 2's Categories can overlap with the differentiation of Causation.
Nature and the World can be impacted by Sapient Species.

I like the idea of utilising an old Creative Writing Trick where you have a few bags with words or in this case Time Periods, Biology etc with a lucky dip of sorts to generate semi random divergences.

Never been "In Love" before... Is this what it is like?

I met her again tonight and I'm ridiculously happy and can't seem to stop thinking about her.
I don't even usually find Blondes attractive. So weird!

Recently saw a replay of the Xenosaga Series and was reminded how good a Villain Albedo was.

Unhinged, Sinister, Smart, Powerful.

A lot of People like Final Fantasy VII's Sephiroth as a cold and Ruthless yet Insane Villain, while many like Kefka from Final Fantasy VI for his Sheer unbridled Lunacy.

Albedo is most definately my Fave Game Villain.

As to Film.... I would suggest "His Divine Shadow" from Lexx but those Season One Movies can also be construed as TV so the lines are rather blurred there.

Maybe I should think on Film and TV more? smile

Regardless though.... Albedo is my Favourite for now.

What are your Favourites my Fellow Sliders Fans?

I too loved Chronicle! Was a little disappointed it went the old Cliche Carrie route and dropped the sense of playful wonder that was so enjoyable in the first half but still good none the less.

The new F4 just seemed redundant to me. Sure the first two had their flaws and were rather shallow but essentially they were specracle Films without too much pretension at being more so Fun but..... Yeah.

The thing that bothers me most in all F4 Films though is the Lack of Ambiguity re Doom. He was never and should never be a 2D Bad Guy.

It's a little hard to comment re Political Satire in some ways as perceptions vary but you are quite right re shallow Propoganda propogating instead of holding up a Mirror in most cases.

Brass Eye for example was very shocking at the time and did not pull it's punches at all while blending the Puerile with some very Sophisticated Ploys and Complex Subject matter.

Mark Thomas for example though WAS Left Wing.... To the Max BUT he did back everything up with evidence via investigation up to and including dangerous Undercover work and Hazourdous Environments.
Regardless of his Politics he was damn brave and didn't just shoot his mouth of based on opinion and assumption yet he still made the material funny while making a point and drawing attention to things like Unsecured Nuclear Waste posing both Health Risks and potential for use in Dirty Bomb Production, Government Corruption, Illegal Arms Sales that had been endorsed by the Govt and in some cases facillitated etc etc.

The Newish Revolution Will be Televised is worth a look. It focuses mainly on National UK stuff which is it's strength in my opinion whereas when it does go international it is weak.... Preachy.

Good aspects are Impersonating Political Representatives who are blatant characatures of the Worst of the Big Parties aspects yet still managing to sneak into Party Functions and events while being accepted as if normal which says something about how many people within said parties match said Characatures. Also good is how they dohighlight new Legislation re Employment that had been stealthily entered into Law and drawing attention to it. Disabled People being targeted by Govt Initiatives in a almost Criminal manner and Digging up Financial records that prove misuse of Public Money etc

The Left Wing in the UK is pretty much a dead beast but a lot of US People strangely (to me at least) think there is a strong Left here.
You hear a lot of Social Justice Crusaders trying to drown out everyone else trying to claim the Mantle of the Left but it does not fit them and switches many People off.

There used to be a 90's comedy called Drop the Dead Donkey which embraced a view of the World from different types of Journalists perspectives, it was good but rather dated now. It came out around the same time as the Original British Version of House of Cards too but was rather more Earthy and Raucous in tone.

There is a Show called Charlie Brookers Weekly Wipe which very sarcastically mocks the growing Celebrity Culture and plague of Reality TV with associated dumbing down of News Casting, Programming range etc but not much more than that. It's not Terrible but has a very narrow focus.

There is a new Sci Fi in the UK called Humans airing on Channel 4 if you want to check that out?
It's very much a Five minutes into the Future deal but it focuses less on the Tech and more on the Social consequences like Family Life, Relationships, Employment, Alienationation etc.

It too suffers from Evil Corp Syndrome but at least their motivations are not hyped up too much, protect the profit margin and avoid a scandal.
A rare thing though is that some in story implications may have the Corp aiming to protect People.... Via enlightened self interest of course but still.... Better than usual.... Slightly. wink

Alternatively last year or the year before there was a Show called Utopia that played with the Evil Corp angle in a Tongue in Cheek maximum Ham manner which was nice as they embraced the Trope you have issues with in such a way that it was deliberately over the top. The Conspiracy Theory stuff met with the same treatment in a So Bad it's Good way.

One of the main cast from Utopia is in Humans too.
There was a Series 2 of Utopia I think but I missed it. S1 I would reccomend though.

Another Pseudo Sci Fi was domething called Black Mirror which funnily enough was written by the earlier mentioned Charlie Brooker. Very Dark/Grim but ok I suppose. Only saw Two episodes... No Three sorry but it was unique at the time.
There is a Cruelty in his work I am not fond of but it does I grudgingly admit have a purpose in his themes as opposed to being slapped on by a Network Exec trying to be edgy.

Small doses of Charlie Brooker are Key I guess as too much is Not so Good.

"The Revolution will be Televised" has a long but intriguing title. What is it about?

I just got through season 2 of "Orphan Black"... It isn't a bad show, bit I do kinda think that it is overrated. It reminds me a bit of some of the shows that networks were experimenting with in the 90's, with many of the same tropes.

It's a Comedy/Satire Show. It usually tackles the Govt and Establishment but sometimes dabbles in other things too. It's sadly the only UK show that does so anymore too. It gets a bit too preachy on the odd subject but 80% of the time it's pretty sharp and funny.

I'd probably be a little harsher on it if it had competition but it doesn't.
Bremner Bird and Fortune used to be the best Political Satire Programme but it has not been on the Air for a while now, I hope it comes back on but won't get my hopes up.

Brass Eye, The Mark Thomas Comedy Product and In the Thick of it were good too but in different ways.

I have only seen S1 of Orphan Black so cannot say re S2 but I liked S1 despite griping about parts of it and guessing some plot twists very early on.

Sarah Jane Adventures sadly will not continue as the Main Actress Passed away a while ago.

BBC have gone very downhill sadly. Rather than continue their tradition of Quality Independant Programming they have instead decided to mimic some of the Worst offerings of the Commercial Channels like Reality TV programmes and Celeb Culture Shows. It makes me sick.

The only Programmes that bucked the new trend in the last 3 years were a BBC Three show called "The Revolution will be Televised" and "Orphan Black" which is an International Co-Production.

There are a few good Programmes from abroad like "Il Commisario Montalbano" to break up the Awfulness but they are NOT BBC Productions.

It's interesting that you see growth in Chloe. Compared to Lana's patchwork quilt of Frankensteined stuff you have a point but I guess I will always see more of Chloe's path as Flip Flops and Staleness sadly.

You make a good point on Acting Life and it's sub varients.
Some Actors Shine on the big screen but are ill suited to TV.
Similar differences are there for Board Treaders too.

@Informant
Have not seen Arrow as of yet but did see my first Ep of Gotham last Week. It wasn't the Pilot/Premiere but instead an Episode about "A Baloon Man" with some Mafia, Penguin and Lesbian Ex Subplots attached/interlaced.
Might try and watch it again this Week if I can find out what Channel, Day and Time it was on last big_smile Judging it based on One Ep seems wrong but I'm curious as to your take on this show. Would you recommend it?

Saw Xena on Sat too.... As much as I loved it as a Kid.... God some is terribad.
I gave up on it when I was younger in the India/Gabrielle turned Yazoo style 80's Super Short Haircut Arc.

Saw the end of her Stay in Chin and return to Greece on Sat. Not to impressed. There was some fun Eps but Bad too. Have to say the Heavy Judeo Christian Yahwe Elements coming into play with this Twilight stuff is making me very uncomfortable. It just doesn't mesh well. The whole we don't need Gods stuff would be fine alone but when blended with the Eli and Angel Callisto schtick it just reeks of ill thought out hypocrisy to me.
"You don't need God's!" "Just Yahwe!" "A God!" "Please ignore that last bit!"

*Growl*

Also why protect this Supernatural Child when the last one was A-OK to put down? Double Standards Ahoy!

I am enjoying a rewatch of Dark Angel with Jessica Alba though. Although her Characters impulsive selfishness does grate at times.... Still good.
Always felt sad that did not get a Third Season to eiher space out the Plots a little or build on prior events.
Anybody here know any behind the scenes info re Dark Angel like has been shared re Sliders and Andromeda in the past on this Board?

P.S. May have mispelt Yahwe... Meh....

1: Fear of being Alone.
2: Fear of being Swallowed by the Crowd.

People started to wonder why Summer wasn't being hounded and she just very quietly replied that she had turned her phone off, which was funny in the moment.
She doesn't do social media. She just strikes me as introverted. It's sad if people really interpret that as icy, because that implies lack of caring or ungratefulness.

For what it's worth I think you make good points.
When Smallville first Season came on I had a crush on the Chloe Character due to her Loyalty, Courage and Drive. Those qualities were watered down heavily later on as you correctly pointed out due to no clear character development due to writer imposed rewinds and stasis.

I kind of hated Clark in all honesty and after a while futilely hoped he would get killed permanently.... Yeah I know, was never going to happen.

Lois Lanes introduction always grated on me as she was a feature if Adult Career era Clark/Supes which did not really belong in Smallville due to.... You know, being about Smallville and Clark's Teenage/Formative years.

By the time of the permanent move to Metropolis and Daily Planet life sure bring in Lois but not before.

Properly planned Arcs of Growth and Maturity for Clark in the vein of Babylon 5's Show Plan/Bible would have been far superior to what we got.

That may well be the case. I had a friend at the time (90's) who had a Betamax which is higher quality in Visuals than VHS etc. I teased him at the time but I am a little Jealous now. smile

There was a TV Show on CH4 in the UK at the Turn of the Millennium called Vids which was Anarchic and Hilarious while still giving insightful Reviews of pretty much anything on Tape or Disc. That would have vanished if not for one of the Presenters himself making a Copy direct from the Master Tapes at the time.
Nigel Buckland he is called and his Co Presenter is/was Steph Gardener.
They did a Revived version (Audio only) Podcast back in 2012 but sadly have not continued since. Damn Shame.
I kind of hope they get their own Youtube Channel maybe with Ads to fund them or maybe do a Kickstarter.
Their shows cancellation was a little crazy as they got very high ratings for late night Telly and had a large Cult following.

There is a Youtube Account in the name of mclumperty that has the Vids Episodes if you want to check out their prior work at least though.

Be warned though there is Bad Language. smile

I also wonder whether Nick's personal issues influenced how his character was written later in the series?

Well it seems Joss behaved a bit like Peckinpah re Wade and Arturo with Charisma Carpenter on Angel when she got Pregnant and wrote her out the negative way he did to take out his frustrations with the Actress on the Character.

She did reappear later but only in a minor guest role later to keep the Fans happy and shut up calls for her to rejoin the Cast.

Pregnancy may cause some issues on a show it's true but it was a very poorly done method he chose that seemed fueled by Tantrum when he could have kept her on cast for the Shows sake in a more professional manner.

Cordy's Canon demise felt very much like a Wade Welles moment to me.

Xander Character always got a rough deal with Character Development being rewound (Case in point being when Xander faced his fears and Punched the Killer Clown in the Early Season Forbidden Planet esque Nightmares made Real Episode) but the Alcoholism playing a part in that worsening post Season 3 seems believable given the CC events.

Apparantly though NB's colleagues on BTVS did fight to keep him on the Show so that may be why Xander was not killed off back then.

There is also a Youtube Clip out there with an interview with one of the BTVS Writers or Directors of Later Seasons which pretty blatantly has her saying she was a Fan of Early BTVS before being hired and had a Grudge/Dislike of the Xander Character ever since "The Lie" from the Acathla incident in S2 which seems damning to me. This is a person with Creative Control on a Show who is allowing her own Fan Perspective/Opinion to impact Character Arcs and Scripts. Is it any wonder we see Later Season Xander be Dumbded down and made a Simplified Characature in the Late Seasons.

Joss Whedon early on is noted to have said a Lot of Xander was based on him so I imagine he intended Growth as well as Comic Relief elements but somewhere along the line that changed. He was rather Hands Off on Buffy though while dabbling with Angel the Series too though so there is that I guess.

But for the record, neither he nor Willow should have been gay. In fact, I would say that calling Willow bi would be pushing it. She didn't love Tara. She loved what Tara could offer her.

I'd agree with that.

I disliked the Gay Development too because it did not fit.

If a Character had been intended to be Gay from the outset then a smooth development and reveal would have occured. Instead it was literally and I quote "Gay now" ugh.....

Willow clearly Loved and Lusted after Xander in S1 & 2 depiction so Purely Gay does not work as it was made. Bi at a Stretch but yeah... Badly handled all around.

I was on a Buffy Fansite recently and the Cancelled Faith the Series came up.
It was said that such a Series would have been Supernatural before Supernatural.
If Eliza Dushka had not committed to Tru Calling anyway.....

It was also discussed that Wesley's Character Arc of "Rogue Demon Hunter" turned Competent and then "End Justifies the Means" was originally envisioned for Xander during his Road Trip period with Guest appearances on Angel the Series and Faith the Series.
Apparently Nicholas Brendons Alcoholism becoming an issue at this time is what scrapped that.

Other cancelled Plot Developments discussed were:

Xander being Gay not Willow.
And
Xander being the Human Host to Glorificus.
And
Xander being scheduled to Die in the last Season.

I have seen a little of the Show Grimm which is good but the Supernatral early Season Travels and lack of Power Creep ala Dragon Ball Z are my preferrence.

I did enjoy Season 1 of Angel the Series too. The Noir Feel and Tone was a refreshing change to Buffy's format.

I was sad that was lost in later Angel Seasons.

The Ireactions idea of later episodes being a seperate group of Sliders works for me.

Rather than a "All a Dream"/"Never Happened Moment" we can have a side by side approach.

The Non Native Earth Quinn is a seperate Quinn, or the Cromagg Deception re Charlie was less a Knowing Spy and more of a Sleeper/Manchurian Candidate.

Maybe there was a real Quinn who came from invasion world just not OUR Quinn...

A Quinn who discovered Sliding in 95 does not have to be totally written off but a gentle handwave avoiding how this is orriginal Quinn may be best with maybe subtle hints later in the Series to spark debate among Fans but remain Unanswered.

New Sliders to Join him would be fine but as you say careful casting for Chemistry would be essential.

I doubt Sabrina will come back as a full cast member but a Cameo may be possible if in the right spirit perhaps is viable.

Arturo coming back as a Mentor or even a Rival Mentor for Mature Quinn is also possible with the Blue Gate Arturo situation.

What if Gillian of the Spirits Quinn never reunited with our Core Group but a Very Similar Double did? That could be interesting to play with.

Quinn exploring our World and Rediscovering it is his own could be an interesting Pilot. Reconciling the Changes to our World with his Memories of Home.... His almost Idealised Home could be very engaging.

I think the Lucrative Netflicks Exclusivity for the new X Files had a lot to do with it being revived too.

Epic Rap Battles of History: Robocop VS Terminator.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jmqa99Ar … ata_player

I'm not a big fan of Rap but this amused me slightly.

The Robocop Suit is very good for a Homebrew, Robocop's Voice sounds right too and the Terminator Arm used in a Scene is the Original Stop Motion Animation Prop from the Films!

We have a new digital channel in the UK "Horror Channel" is it's name.

Dark Angel, Xena, Wonder Woman, Highlander (TV Series), Dr Who (Old Version) and Star Trek TNG are on it.

Sliders would be a nice addition to go with the others.

My condolences.
I hope things are better for you now.
I hope to listen to the Podcasts at some point but have not managed to do so yet.

An interesting guy!
I still have not watched Season 4 & 5 but if I do at some point I will endeavour to give him a fair shake and not prejudge his performances in them.
I wonder if he could ever be tempted back in to acting?
He seems happy in his new career and is undoubtedly successful so he does not need to or anything but I do wonder.
Acting is something of a Passion for those special few like JRD for example and Roberts investment in his performances as detailed in the interview are either that very Passion or at least an admirable amount of proffessionalism if not.
